It's a serious conscern I think a lot of people have, will Dust be playable on PS4? according to the PSN blog a major announcement will be happening Feb 20th 2013. ( source) http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/01/31/see-the-future/
That said, will there be a PS4 port of dust, will dust be remade to take advantage of the PS4's extra power? or will Dust be one of the last supported games on ps3?
I would hate for this game to fail simply because it went open beta 2 months before next console anouncements. |

Until they retire the ps3 client, the ps3 will be the blockage between ps4s full potential and ps3 lacking potential.
I just hope there IS a client for the ps4, even if it can't take advantage of all the power the ps4 has it will be nice.
other guy
You are right it might not be the next console announcement but it is in the realm of possibility, even if it isn't it might also be announced around e3 this year. |

yes, ps3 uses cell processor, PS4 almost definitely will not. |

Maybe some of you are too young to remember but the first iterations of the PS3 could play PS2 games just fine.
I also read, though I will not dig to find it again to prove it to you, that it's already been stated that DUST isn't maxing out the abilities of the PS3.
You guys should find something else to worry about.
it may be able to, but it also might not, the ps3 could play ps2 games but it had a pretty expensive chip that allowed it to emulate the games.
the ps3 uses cell ( which is one of the reasons it was so much $$ at launch) the ps4 almost definitely will not. |

I would love a dev confirmation on a ps4 version. I suppose they can have low res textures and such for ps3 and 1080p and better textures on ps4. we will see though. |

It is infact game makers holding the ps3 from reaching its potential not the other way around. 256 X 2 RAM = The PS3 maxed out years ago. With that piddly amount of RAM, no game can "reach it's full potential" no matter what the CPU/GPU can do. Apparently Sony hasn't learned much either. IF the current rumored specs for both the PS4 and Next Xbox are to be believed, only 4 GB of RAM are coming to the next Playstation with Microsoft's machine having TWICE that. Also, Sony is definitely NOT waiting "to see what MS is going to do with their next console." A pre-E3 announcement from both companies and an E3 showcase of the next generation is a sure thing. I read something similar to that, too. Except the next Xbox has a lot of RAM reserved for OS functions. Giving the same amount as the next PS. Which is interesting. The current rumors are that the PS4 will use 4 GB of DDR5 and the Xbox will use 8 GB of DDR3. PS4 will be split into 3.5 and 0.5 and the Xbox will be split into 5 and 3 (for games and the OS). It being higher quality RAM (DDR5) makes up a lot of the numerical quantity difference. When including the rumored GPU and CPU, PS4 will have plenty of power for the next 5 to 6 years. Don't forget that consoles are highly optimized for what they do and get much more out of specs that appear to be below par. As for waiting for Microsoft, no, I doubt that. Many quotes come out of large companies like Sony that are often contradicting, especially when the different regional divisions act fairly independent of one another. Plus, it's just corporate nonsense, they often say things they don't mean.
since when is their ddr5 ram? DDR4 isn't even available to my knowledge. |
