Your worrying about it too much - firstly you have some acknowledgement that this is no CoD +1 for you.
Heres my experience from the first few days in the game - however I didnt buy the merc kit.
So like you i chose artificer - i play medic in most games i play so it was the logical choice.
Jumped in a game - dead...wtf...dead....wtf...dead.....wtf.....
So I stop and think wth am i doing wrong im severely outclassed here - but actually in most cases you arent.
Firstly as an artificer, R2 is your friend (took me a while to work out) on here is your equipment, Nanite Injector(NI) and repair tool(RT).
Ok so, after reading my info, the NI is for reviving people - great so when i see a syringe, I just switch to the NI and inject them.
Off into a game i go again, ooh ooh syringe *runs over* dies....damnit didnGÇÖt see that idiot over there
Next one, ooho a syringe... now last time there was a fellow who killed me, clear? yes runs over NI out BAM! 60pts *runs off*
On to the next one BAM 60pts!...
But the main thing i found the single most important thing to me personally - switching out the SMG for the AR - holy s*** I can kill people.
The point, itGÇÖs all about learning, this game has a steep learning curve over most games, but read the skills and forums especially this one https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=45220 and your golden, IGÇÖm not looking back now and IGÇÖm 7 days old.
edit: even now with a better understanding i get into *ALOT* of SNAFU's
edit 2: look into AR skills if you are having trouble with kills, Sharpshooter increases distance and Proficiency decreases spread i think off the top of my head. |

When did you start playing?
Another consideration will be whether or not there will be a shift when this game launches. Will the Vets from Beta be relegated elsewhere due the "match making" actually working? If so, I might just call it quits till release and start again as a newb with other newbs.
It will balance out, when it launches live there will be vets with their SP sure, but most vets will be in faction warfare by then.
just becuase you started as Artificer doesnt mean you ahve to stay with it, it just means you dont initially have the skills for other roles.
Bear in mind this is still beta, it wont look as polished or finished but I find far more enjoyment here than I have in COD BF3 or Halo.
If you call it quits now and start again on 'launch' you will be in the EXACT same position, im fairly competitive even in militia gear, this game isnt just about who has the better stuff, skill helps too as does playing intelligently - its very rock paper scissors, for isntance you see a slow moving fatty - dont run head on in - if anything run away and try and get round behind him or move on becuase he will shred you.
also artificers are great bases for Vehicle warfare
and you might get killed br LR - personally I die more to snipers while trying to do my medic thing oh and for reference - I can use a Militia LR as well as every other tom, **** or harry |

I will say I play a good support character -- but I just don't see it here. Not a game for much support, too many people doing their own thing and no coordination at all -- at least not from what I've seen. Maybe we see more cooperation with the vets game play.
It shows more in corp games than pub stomping

So I'm thinking that with my (so far) pathetic K/D rate and abysmal SP income, I'd be better of starting from scratch with a new character and a new merc kit and doing a bit more research on the character classes. They should have put a cross on the artificer. Or at least given a bit more in depth reading on the classes., but it's a beta so they can't be faulted for not having the in depth verbage.
Whats KDR :) mines sub 1 at the moment, but i regularly am in the top 4 in a game.
and artificer isnt JUST a medic, as i mentioned before theyre great for vehicles so a cross wouldnt suit.
leave it a few days, do some research and accumulate some passive SP and inject that into new skills see if that helps - at least you aren't just ruing the game out and saying wtf im going back to COD which is a good positive attitude to have - which WILL get you the help you need :)
edit: hit me up in game if your on and i'll help best i can, I dont have a mic yet but i can lead by example |
