Two very simple ways to be effective from day one in combat.
1. SNIPER. Even with no skills an a militia sniper rifle, you can one shot kill people from so far across the map you can not see them. Worst case you can usually two shot anything but a heavy. Turn on aim assist in your options menu. Scan the map from long range. Enemies will show up as your reticle passes close to them, even if you can not see them. The center pixel turns red when you have it directly over an enemy, that's when you fire. If close enough, aim for a headshot. If they are running, aim ahead, let them run into your center pixel. When it turns red fire. Do not fire before they are in the crosshairs as it pretty much hits instantly. You will also be helping the team as anyone you spot shows up on the team radar.
2. Call in the LAV you get for free based on your race. If its the gallants one, throw an armor plate or two on it. If its the Caldari one, throw on shield extenders. You want to increase the number if hitpoints as high as possible. Then go out and use your front and rear bumpers as a weapon. Ideally, try and fit a blaster on the rear turret so people will jump in and give you kill assists. I do not recommend switching to the turret yourself, as its easy to get shot while standing there. Be aware you can still get killed as driver before your vehicle is destroyed, but its much harder to focus fire on the driver. Use your radar to help see where the person you are trying to squash is located. You do not need to see them to squash them.
Other ideas are to man fixed large turret emplacements. Man the guns on other people's vehicles. Train for remote explosives and place them on capture points, to detonate when the enemy starts to hack them.... there are a LOT of ways to get kills without having much in the way of skill points.
On a slightly related note, the Toxin SMG is not terrible. You just need to know its a close range weapon. Using a Dragonfly suit and Toxin SMG I ambushed two scout suits and an assault suit from behind, and killed all three just last night. The key is to dance, and make use of your larger magazine capacity. Standing still is just asking to die. |
