Sorry to revive dead topic but just had to drop in and say that yes, you can LS on dedicated servers, I know cause I have tested it a couple of years back. And you can MAO aswell, which I seem to be seeing happening in Dust from time to time.
To clarify: you are not invincible while you LS on dedicated servers. Yes, you take no damage initially, but as soon as you switch your lag off you die if someone shot you while you were LSing, you also cannot get the kill from anyone before you switch lag off. And you can only do it for around 3 seconds before you fully disconnect. So basically you can hide behind a corner and switch lag on and shoot someone from around the corner and then switch it back off and your victim sees it as if you spawned around the corner and killed him instantly.
Now to talk about MAO, which I've also tested a couple of years back. You have around 15 seconds instead of 3 but you can die WHILE you MAO. Basically what you are doing is you lock everyone else in place for 15 seconds and you can go and kill them in real time and they will "never know what hit them" cause they are already far away from where you are in their screen. OR what could happen with MAO is that if someone else is using MAO as well, you can see them moving and they can see you moving, meaning they cancel each other out. OR what could also happen with MAO is that you are locked in place for everyone else but you can still see everyone else moving and you can shoot them without them knowing your "real" location.
Also MAO causes no lag for other people but LS will make everyone warp back and forth without them ever actually knowing exactly where they are going before LS has been shut down.
Now for this weird thing that has happened to me a couple of times I have no explanation. I see a guy standing still, doing nothing, I think: free kill. Now here's the twist, I go point blank range, he still hasn't moved, I empty full clip on his/her head and boom 0 damage, so I think: ok, maybe that guy disconnected. Well, no, I guess not cause 10 seconds later I get the kill. And that person is still in the game. So is it just insane lag or what? I dunno.
LS lag is very distinct, you warp around for 3 seconds like crazy (incredible distances) and then it's normal again, and usually starts again right after it just happened and you also don't die while warping, you die after warping. Where as normal lag makes you warp a little bit and you can also die while you are warping, that's (I think) because the server registers the kill and relays it to you (client) but with LS the server doesn't know that you are dead before the killer stops LSing and lets the server know that you are now dead.
Oh and PLEASE, correct me if I am wrong, because I guess things could have changed in these past 2 years since I tested all of this with a dedicated group to test these things. Point was to get to know the difference between normal lag and LS lag and MAO (no lag).
TL;DR: LS is possible on dedicated for 3 seconds, you die as soon as you switch lag off. MAO is possible for 15 seconds and you die while you MAO. |
