I think, in fairness, SPs (50SPs) for a kill should always be awarded. Then I wouldn't care about any caps, and I'd hope it would make everyone pause and accept SP caps if you are against them. I'd think it was a fair and reasonable compromise. You would still reward skill and being good at the game, and keep diminishing returns to combat tasks. To me, that seems a good fit.
This has become a vast topic on here so if someone has brought this up, sorry I didn't find it on search.

We've talked about this, while I agree.
Most of the current closed beta players are the weekenders, and are very worried about being left behind sp wise, also you'll get complaints from those who do not get very many WP's per game or kills. Which I find totally flawed punishing the good players and the ones who contribute their playing throughout the week even for couple hours per day.
And Ty for the laser comment, its my baby, not because its OP, but because its different and not common on the field. Which is why I love it |

Thanks for the response.. yea. I knew someone would have had, JUST HAD, to have had that idea. And I am glad it's been tossed around. phew.
As someone who has gotten pretty damn good at CQB in this game, I've put lasers down. But for my logi suit- where I plan to stay just behind everyone- i love it because it's the perfect medium range engagement situation. I mostly res and rep, and when it gets to crazy i whip out the laser and gun from behind the line of heavies i've been keeping in the fight. Perfect use of the weapon.
It's a shame that the theme for this game is quickly becoming punish strategy and performance. Very weird approach in the least. Kind of socialistic in the bad sense. |

You don't get SPs for kills, you get SPs from a sliding scale based on where your in that battle placed you relative to your teammates.
WPs are not directly connected to SPs (yet and hopefully ever) because there would be no way for new players to ever get SPs. |

Ah! I didn't realize/know. Well, in that case- whatever the translation of WPs per kill to SPs uninhibited awarding is what I mean then.

This is inaccurate the current way SP is (are?) awarded is as follows
1WP = 1SP
5 sec in game = 1SP
So yes they are directly connected the longer a game lasts the more SP you earn the better you do in said match the more SP you earn. |

+1 mhm, which is why sp should be given via how many WP's you gain with no cap, 1wp=1sp however, there is something more to this. If I get 200wp's I get 7k sp, if I get 3000wp's I get 12k sp......why are the lower wp kids getting nearly = sp? |

Bite me, CoD Boi.
The thing you are actually preaching for exists you just don't understand it yet. It is called WP and you get 50 each and every single Kitten Eating time you Murder/Death/Kill an opposing Merc.
SP means nothing related to actual Skill. It is a method of determining how much experience you have gained of late. Normally called XP in many RPG games. It has a cap for a variety of reasons, none of which are important to this discussion.
You just need look at the leader boards where Kills and WP are shown. All of them. Every single one. Unless it gets wiped.
Oddly enough, to you anyway, SP is not shown as that is a very different metric. |

Wtf are u going on about? I've played eve since day 1 Broskies. I understand sp and how it works. No one gives 2 ***** who has the most WP's at the moment, more about kdr, and since ccp announced they're looking into doing exactly what I said, maybe u should get with the program. |

I was responding to the OP. That was basically a CoD whiner not understanding how the system currently works. K/DR is the only thing that matters to that level of pond scum.
You commented on the SP cap and its minimum consolation points system. That is fine. I didn't respond to you.
I genuflect in your general direction. Pick as many digits as you want. Prove to me you understand how threads and email work. |

Rewarding only kills while not rewarding everything else does not, in fact, reward skill. It rewards killing skill, which is absolutely no reason to be the most/only skill type rewarded in a tactical team based game like Dust. Capping everyone who isn't a "slayer" is a game breaking idea which renders all other aspects of play into a second class that with mechanically lag behind. Spawns, hacks, AV, revives, repairs, et al are every bit as valid as shooting an assault guy in the face. From the perspective of someone who isn't just an 'assault AR guy' this is not a good fit, this is a worse fit than either the current system or a completely cap free system. It is in fact game breaking in that it crushes the rock, scissors, paper modality of Dust in favor of a straight up slaughter fest which is inferior game making.
I do tend to agree with you regarding some form of cap not being bad per se (I'm looking at you pool/rollover system) and I completely agree regarding lasers (and that's coming from someone who spec'ed deep into them before the wipe but may not even pick them up until I've gone proto with 2-3 other weapons this build.

It's hard to figure out where to start with such a sloppy thought process. So I give up. |

I solely only left my quote in my reply to you so that you'd have easy access to see how you misunderstood me...
You see, the part you missed is I am really saying a kill is worth more experience than repairing armor over and over and over, or giving someone a shot over and over and over and over, or tossing down explosives/uplink/ammo bin and continually milking that over and over and over.. get where i'm going?
no?
Contrast that with each and every kill. Each and every one is different. sometimes drastically, sometimes with minute precision. always involving skill of some sort even transcending the boundaries of the game's skill system.
It's worth pointing out that it's worth separating from the gimp pool because a kill is always harder than repairing or resurrecting, or supplying someone. And like tonight, where i had three different game with in the mid teen kill counts, i got 75 SP.
the only ones who would applaud that are players who would never know what to do to get that kind of kill count. and that's not even the crazy part. I see people score 30+ kill counts, and that must be like a joke to them to get 75. That's basically maxing your day in one match just cause you excelled.

Yesterday, i've played a Skirmish, but just play for learned to a new player how manipulate a dropship (crazy school !!! ), and i've win more than 9000 SP after the battle... (with an active booster, i admit). Funny to see, because it's the fisrt time i don't really battle in a game
I think the weekly cap is best, because it's not necessary to played each days for have all of your SP (you can played WE only for makes all of the weekly SP), and i love the idea to report SP day after day if you don't make all of the SP you can (because you haven't enough time for that, or you won't). Equally, i love the idea to allow new players to makes all missing SP since the release of the game if they have enough time for makes all (if they join 2 years after, hard to makes all SP but i love this idea for new players). |
