Hey,
I'm not a big user of the forums, so please forgive me if I'm breaking rules by creating a new topic. I have searched high and wide for an answer to my question, but haven't seen any solid information so here I am.
War Points, what the hell are they and how do you earn them within a battle?
I grasp the fact that once earned they allow you to call in OBs and other in-game benefits further down the road, but I'm thoroughly confused as to how you actually earn them whilst playing. I play as a medic quite often, and always heal/ throw down nanohives as often as I can, along with securing positions and emplacements in Skirmish game mode, but I have no idea if this is how you actually earn them?
Thanks for any insight/ externals you can point me to

What would be the point of the forums if a rule was that you couldn't post in them?
But anyways, war points are accrued in battle by doing different things like killing, hacking, reviving, etc. |

So it doesn't matter if my squad leader has highlighted us to capture a position or not, I'll get WP either way? |

Nope doesn't matter but if you do that sort of stuff NEAR whatever your SL has fraggod you will get bonus points.
I manage to be in the top 4 of the match almost every game as a logi. albeit I'm more of a combat medic quick revives a bit of healing then off to the facemurder fest. |

Being around a Squad leaders order will give you a 10% increase to WP earned.. The SL gets 10% for each squad mate that gets WPs.
50 kill 25 assist 100 capture 10 team restock etc.
WP gets you OBs and SP. It is also the factor used to determine match rank. |

Here are some ways I know of that can earn you WP- kill- 50 assist- 25 vehicle assist (when someone in your vehicle gets a kill)- 35 for an infantry kill, 45 for a vehicle kill (at least LAVs) revive- 60 NULL cannon hack- 100 hack assist- varies depending on percentage you helped hack, I believe the maximum is 50 for NULLs, 25 for others other hack (besides vehicles)- 50 team resupply (someone gets ammo from your nanohive)- 10 triage (repair)- 15 or 25, can't remember guardian (repairing as someone is getting shot at)- 25 or 35, can't remember LAV destruction- 40 Installation (and dropship?) destruction- 100 HAV or RDV (the thing that carries vehicles) destruction- 150 team spawn (someone spawns on your uplink)- 15, I believe
When you do one of these on something that's tagged with a squad target, you get 10 bonus WP, and the squad leader get's a squad leader commission, which is 10 for them.
The list probably isn't complete and isn't 100% accurate. |

And yet its incredibly useful. I didnt know about a few of them. Thank you. |

It's a way the game measures how good you are playing, above are some examples, and you can earn some more if you're around a squad leader designated area (for being a good boy) I'm not sure how that works, but i think it's some kind of multiplier because the bonus is different depending of the action performed.
So, what are those points for? Well first the leaderboards, but that's just bragging. The important thing about WP is: at 2500 points earned per squad, the squad leader can use an orbital bombardment (YAY!) and the amount of WP is directly related towards the SP earned on a match ( i think you get 1SP for each WP, plus time on the match 1SP = 2,5 secs or something like that)
And that's it, i hope it helps. |

The bonus for following the Squad Leader's directives is 20%, not 10%. Thus on a 50 point award, you get 60 points instead if you are in the order radius.
That's why it is important for SLs to issue orders. The squad can accrue points up to 20% faster- which is 20% sooner for the mega boom. Remember to hit the Pause button for chat to check if you are a SL before the battle starts.
It is also worth noting that your ranking on the leaderboard for THAT battle determines your SP (and possibly ISK) rewards. There is a sliding scale with the bottom of the board getting the bottom end of the scale and the top WP people getting the most rewards. The total WP earned by the team seems to affect the range of the scale in some way. |

My question is what's the point of them? they don't contribute in anyway to the isk at the end of the game so what are they used for lol? in my months and months of playing i've yet ti figure that out... |

As the above post mentioned: Precision/Orbital Strikes. When your squad of 4 in game (the green dots instead of the blue ones) gets up to 2500 in a match your squad leader can call an orbital strike.
In addition WP's are converted on a 1:1 to SP at the end of game reward screen. So the more WP you get, the more SP you get for the match.
I believe placing higher in WP's at the end of the match grants a better chance of salvage? but i cant confirm this. I can confirm that i get salvage more often when i score in the top few members of my team than when I dont. But at this point its just memory, and its not a large enough sample size to rule out dumb luck. |

Without Squad Bonus, triage is 25, guardian is 35.
Brass Stalker wrote:i hacked a null cannon that was tagged by my leader and i got 120 wp i think that means 20% bonus
That is correct. Moreover, take note that since Squad Leader gets those extra 20% as commission points, for each action that gets the squad bonus your squad gets 140% of the initial reward (your 20% plus squad Leader's 20%). Therefore, if your leader places a Defend order on one of the members of your squad, and you all stay together for the entire match, you will get an OB 40% faster.
Not to mention that running as a squad in general will bring you more WP due to more potential kill, destruction, and hack assists. This will most likely lead to two, if not three, OBs. If you have a good Logi in your squad, he'll make sure to bring a lot of WP into your pool, while also keeping you alive.
That's why it's important to find a squad pre-battle so that you will surely accrue those extra points; not many random squad leaders issue orders on the battlefield. I try to do so every time I'm solo and a leader, and most of the time we can get a OB. But still, finding a squad, especially with mics, will bring your game to a whole new level. |

Skill Points and Precision Strikes aren't enough? Moreover, by comparing WP and deaths of an individual, you can calculate how much a person contributes to the team per one life, and whether by means of killing or supporting. It seems to be quite a useful statistic, IMHO. |
