We have had awesome free drop ships/ and the now infamous drop ship squishing (which I must say as much as I hated it was quite epic.) we have had really strong drop ships(which I think was just beacuase the missile splash damage)
However I really enjoyed the drop ships of every build except this one they really add a great 3 dimensional element to the battles. There was a time you could see epic air battles going on, with multiple ships chasing each other and mercs falling from the sky everywhere, while there was carnage going on right below. There was a time that drop ships were an important part of the battle to have air support.
Now drop ships are flying eggshells. A slight bump to anything and they get destroyed. Just coming in for a quick landing cause an explosion.
As much fun as it is to forge gun a drop ship it really shouldn't take only two shots from a militia forge to drop them.
Bring back the epic ness of this feature! Or if we leave them as is being as weak as an LAV make them free again. |

They arn't that bad, its just a transport is all it is right now unless you have a gunner who hits dead on every shot.
When corp battles go up from 8v8 i think we may see them more. We were using one in a pub yesterday and it was awesome going from point to point lol. We even tried a 6 man drop on 2 guys.. it was awesome lol. |

i buy like 10 default gorgons at a time, they're cooler than calling a lav, it's first class dude. i call them trash ships.. i will use it with the intent of it blowing up. sometimes just to attack a mountain man i will eject over him and spend 151k to kill a sniper.
theres also more use for them but i will not say here, it's not too hard to figure out tho and i do it when my corps logged out- running with randoms I'll pass.
also screw missles, those were easy mode, blasters are sick.. i went 11/0 with small blaster turrets nothing impressive but that was all kills from a DS, had a phenomenal pilot a new recruit to our corp unfortunately can't recall his name offhand. |

I would love to see a free dropship. Like you stated it adds another way a squad can organize and attack.
Right now they are just really expensive LAV's.
To bad there is no SP's for the pilot that is flying his squad into battle.
I see dropship's really coming into play as soon as CCP sees that we deserve larger player counts. |

Perhaps one should endeavor to spend less time bumping into things and slamming into the ground, and more time becoming a competent pilot.
Drop ships are perfect the way they are. Powerful if used properly and delicate if not. A drop ship should not in any way be an massively tanked flying Juggernaut. They are strategic multipliers and as such, should be expensive to field. |

There's only one or two maps were I can make use of one with tall buildings and other obstacles to block swarms, if it's not one of these very specific map set ups I stay on the ground. but when the situation is right we can still cause quite a lot of trouble with small blasters. |

I have yet to see any drop ship last a whole match I was in? I enjoy the easy forge gun kills.
My point is not my piloting skills which used to be great I could thread one under the bridge on the small building map.
Yes there are some decent pilots putting skills in them. However like the poster above stated they are really just expensive lavs compared to there past glory so why not make them cost about as much as an lav on the militia fit and let's have some more sky way mayhem. |

LOL ahahahahah Dropships are utter shite when everyone is rolling around in protogear, right now they're alright because of no Proto AV but once it comes along, you'll get two shotted and lose 800k ISK in seconds. Dropships are broke and it's fools that don't fly or fly but never play Corp Battles that think they're in a good spot.
more PG/CPU is needed, Ceiling needs to be atleast doubled. From there we might see Dropships being a useful vehicle. Then those like myself who want to be dedicated Pilots need WP to flow if they ever want to get SP (looking towards that WP = SP idea) |

alot of pilots including myself turned in their wings after the FG got rebuffed, there's very little counter to FG, we can't accelerate fast enough to juke, our flight is predictable. this is the main reason you see few dropships, they can't tank much FG. there needs to be something introduced- not to totally negate FG but something to give the DS a fight chance because vs FG it has none. |

+1 +1 = +2 LOL know kidding.. bttbo u gotta love the kamacazi DS pilot that drive's into ur tank, bumps into a building (crashing to the ground in a fireball), and yes love the infantry squish job as long as its not me underneath. LOL
DS as they are are a waste of time, isk, and SP as is and need tweeking fo-sho. All they are used for now is to move troops AKA SNIPERS.
CCP also needs to retweek HAV's(alot) Installation turrets (alot) and LAV (some) to be able to put up a fight against AV. |

I laugh at all who think dropships are useless. They can transport 6 people across the entire map in a matter of seconds. They can take out installations in a few shots as well as tanks. They can take out the mass drivers camping the pipes and squish snipers. Drop uplinks on the tops of buildings are easily visible and can be taken out quickly. They can spot large groups of the enemy as well as any vehicles easily. And they can also be used as a gunship if your gunners are accurate.
The reason most people think that dropships suck is because 90% of all dropship pilots are crap or don't fly with a squad.

The reason most people think that dropships suck is because 90% of all dropship pilots are crap or don't fly with a squad.
The main impediment to making full use of the DS is the poor state of communications.
A DS can drop a squad of six heavies onto a well defended objective and easily take it, but it can't do that if you don't have six teammates on coms who are willing to fly along on your assault.
With a squad of four you get a pilot and three passengers which isn't quite enough to get the job done against a decent opposition.
DS's make mediocre gunships now. Yes, great gunners might get 11 kills in a match, but great gunners can do the same on the ground without tying up a pilot and 700k ISK of flying machine. Everyone loves shooting at DS's so you can't linger in any spot for long without some fool taking pot shots with a FG or some sniper decides to shoot your gunner out of his seat.
They are best used for hunting snipers or placing/finding Uplinks in hard to reach spots as you state, but there are other ways of getting those tasks done that don't cost quite so much and it's not the most compelling use.
DS's will come into their own as assault transports when squad size hits 7-8. When that happens defenders will truly fear the sight of a DS approaching their location and pilots will once again be in demand.
Hopefully that will be soon rather than Soon TM |
