Dust has been planned for ps4 since development began. They brought it out for ps3 in order to build up the community and get the ball rolling. Then when it goes to ps4 it will have a healthy playerbase. It will technically be a simple client download on ps4, no porting etc. |

From what I've heard, Dust was originally developed for CCP's own "Carbon" engine, and then was ported to Unreal when the decision was made to go for PS3 as the target platform. The rumour is that this was because the PS3 couldn't cope with Carbon, which was designed for PC-spec systems.
A PS4 version could therefore either simply use a PS4 version of Unreal (should be an easy port) or could use Carbon, which would be more work but possibly better aligned with CCP technology strategy.
It is also possible that once the "PS3 exclusive" deal with Sony expires you'll see Dust released on PC, and also possible that if Microsoft ever let CCP use their own servers for an XBox game, you might see it on the next XBox 720 as well. |

Dust for PC seems extremely unlikely as that would put Sony's Planetside 2 in direct competition with Dust 514 (while Dust wont stand a chance due to all the console limitations that still have to be in place for a PC Dust). As much as I want this for PC, the train left the station long ago. We'll be stuck with medicore visuals, tiny maps and horrid chat systems. It is what it is, enjoy of it what you can. |

I agree with your sentiment @Nstomper and I also wonder if the OP has read some of the details regarding the plan and the current limitations related to Sony, a contract with an ending date already established and the large PC player base that are devoted EVE Online fans.
The Sony contract will expire. The PS4 is nothing more than a PC in a slightly different format, cheaper with less RAM and medium graphics capability. CCP has an extensive graphics engine that they are very familiar with. Porting to it might not seem plausible to an outsider but if the art tool chain is designed correctly it can be done with a simple configuration change.
Not many people involved in DUST514 care all that much about Planetside 2. I doubt if they ever will. |

CCP has gone on record saying that they have a 10-year roadmap for Dust, well into the next console generation.

If I was Sony, the contract that gave CCP a devkit (which they almost certainly have) would have also forbade them from talking about PS4 before an official announcement. However, there's also a good chance that Sony is holding back on touting DUST until said announcement, at which point it would be described as a "launch" or "near-launch" title. The good news if DUST is a "PS4 launch title"? Public awareness. Most game-news companies at the very least list every single title on a launch list, if not produce full previews for them. Even if it's bad, any publicity in New Eden is good publicity. On top of that, we're F2P - most gamers that come home from buying this expensive piece of electronics aren't going to want to drop another $70 (next-gen always has higher price) just to play something. They go to PS-store for first time, see DUST 514 for free, and BAM, we got fresh meat. That's right CCP. New system + F2P launch title = almost guaranteed flood of players.
Here's to hoping for the best! |

You are aware that there's not much of the carbon engine in Dust 514 right? The whole rendering of graphics isn't carbon, it's unreal engine 3 because the Playstation can't handle carbon. The stuff you see in videos will never make it to 'live' Dust 514 in terms of visuals; just making sure you wont be disappointed too much. |

Here's to hoping for the best! The price was steady at 60$-50$ for YEARS, even before this generation. Infact, games would cost around 100$ back at the Nintendo times. So no, the price doesn't go up every generation. |

I'm content with Dust on the PS3, I'd be thrilled with Dust on the PC. Dust on the PS4 leaves me underwhelmed as I don't want to be pressured to spend several hundred dollars on new hardware that doesn't give me access to the library of titles I have for PS3 or the hardware power of my PC. I'm considering spending $100 per year to keep the Augs et al flowing but buying a new console? No thanks.
