By what I read, that means you can pretty much jump from most heights and not be hurt. And yet us, the Immortal Soldiers of New Eden get hurt from a small 3 foot drop? WHY???!!!! *sobs hysterically*

Because civillians don't wear dropsuits loaded with heavy (and light) weaponry, where also the armor is also quite heavy. The gravboots can't support the weight of the DUST soldiers. |

It's silly, but I love jumping down from high places onto my enemies all Assassin's Creed like. They never see it coming, but due to the fall damage they often get the leverage over me. However functionality does come into it seeing as a shotgun only has so so range, and those AR's can hit be anytime they like. Sometimes I jump down expecting to be able to use my inertia dampeners only to hit the ground first. Yes sir, I mainly run scout, but come on, 3 feet has a noticeable effect? Heights I jump everyday in real life deplete my shields to 50%? Come on CCP, give us some Gravboots. |

The Enforcer/Assault suit run at 7 m/s versus 7.8 m/s for your Scout and its stamina sucks by comparison. Maybe, just a suggestion mind you, you might try an Assault for your ... higher level assassinations. |

What practical benefits are there to fall damage? A deterrent for fall-maniacs like me? Why? As I've said before, you can't implement fall damage in an attempt to be 'realistic', seeing as we're wearing Iron Man suits and all.
And thanks for the tip, but scout gets its speed boosted a lot more than an Assault with Kinetic Catalyzers. |

I love doing this too, especially with Nova Knives the trick I've found is to either fire off a shot/shots while falling before hitting X and costing to a landing. If you're not high enough to use the damper then just start shooting when you have a bead and there won't be a welcoming committee when you land. With Nova just change on the way down and land on/behind them, pop --> dead.
Of course those methods only hold up too a few hostiles at time time needing regen in between, but if you're jumping into large groups of people, well you've just introduced 'hull tanking' to D514 and all I can say is o7
Cheers, Cross
PS ~ CCP Eterne your answer is awesome
EDIT: Almost forgot, I've done this in Logi, Assault and Scout so they'll work but I can't vouch for the Heavy suit, tho math says it'll be fine. |

One place I DON'T see fall damage where there SHOULD be fall damage is when mercs jump out of a moving vehicle.
( i.e. Heavies driving at you full speed and jumping out of a LAV to shoot you while you're dodging the truck they just aimed at you)
... and sometimes you get fall damage jumping UP a slope trying to climb a hill. |

I always figured it was due to the shields. Think about it shield detect and deflect anything incoming that can harm the wearer. So basically they would respond to fall damage. Same as when vehicle rams something. It seems logical for you to lose something for a decent fall. As I said "decent" fall. This definetly needs some tweaking. I don't even want to know how much a Scout loses from a small fall. |

I kind of like the fact that I have to find high enough things to jump off of in order to hit my dampeners, but falling damage should scale with the dropsuit's armor weight. A heavy should take significantly more damage than a scout when falling from an equal distance.
I also want a weaponized dampener module to drop onto people with. |

Yup, I do exact same! Only instead of Nova Knives I use my trusty Specialist Shotgun. Sometimes I do kamikaze with my remote explosives; jump off, wade as much into the crowd I can, then drop my explosive. For some reason, you can still activate them when dead.
Oh. I should probably report that. |

A very good point, though if you take that into account, then armour damage is a bit of an oddball. |

So about the lack of damage when jumping out of a vehicle. Sounds like a good move. Just don't boost it so much that a LAV going 1 mph kills all three scouts as they slowly and carefully step out.
Also wouldn't it be crazy if you actually had to roll! Has any FPS rectified this? |

Is there any lore on how heavy our dropsuits weigh? I'd assume they'd be rather heavy, even a scouts suit.
Since I don't know the weight of our dropsuits let's go outside dust for a moment and look at Halo. Master chief's suit weighs around 1,000 lbs. and the chief himself weighs 400 lbs.
I think it would be fair to guess that the boots can only take around 300-400 lbs max before they fail. That would be a civilian model. Double the power and it's 600-800 lbs. Still not enough to lift chief's suit (and probably our's).
Now you might be able to layer several technologies together (inertia dampeners, gravboots, ect) to eliminate fall damage but grav boots alone won't do it. |
