Everytime I read a new thread or post somebody wants this and that especially expecting something new when its not the final release. IT'S NOT THE FINAL RELEASE YET. I say how about you wait and see. Dust is clearly still in the works.
Just had to say this. You don't put an open beta out when a game like this is in it's current state. Because Open beta is the last phase before a release and to be honest if we don't get a much better build soon you better believe the new comers will trash this game more than I have. This is why I say Dust should've been a PC game or CCP should've put more care in the FPS side of this game everything feels rushed. Dust is great on paper sounds like an awesome game but that's about it.
This is absolutely true. I think it's madness to open the beta up when the build is in it's current state. It's not running anywhere near 30fps for starters. It's a bad commercial move for CCP and I think it's going generate a lot of bad publicity.

That's not to mention the absolute panning it got from Eurogamer last year. Nothing has changed since then. I just don't think CCP have a clue what to do with it from a gameplay perspective. They have all this wonderful stat-bollocks attached to a really sub par shooting experience.
I just can't see very many people sticking around...and we all know what happens to games that don't generate revenue.... |

Zipper was closed because they failed to deliver the goods with SOCOM 4. It was a commercial flop. |

Ludvig Enraga wrote:There is no material for the open beta to test yet. Most ppl believe that Dust is a sub-par FPS but what saves it is that it's supposed to be an immersive MMO with politics and metagame and elements of territorial control. Those latter parts is what has drawn ppl to the game but guess what. They dont exist. All we have is a handful of small maps and a few **** corps that enjoy deploying into a pub ambush game. CCP have been talking about MMO things with hunderds/thousands of randomly generated maps on different planets to gain control of for years but as of yet there is no sign of any of this.
Speaking from a commercial angle, consoles are a highly commercial media. Console players expect finished products on release. This mentality is hugely different from the world of PC gaming where ppl often gravitate to the DIY and indie projects that sometimes undergo long years of evolution after release. When people say things like "hey look: EvE itself is just a beta that has been going for 10 years" I believe this irritates most console players to no end. As a console player I dont understand the concept of a game that's a never-ending beta where no one has any thought of what a finished product is supposed to be. I am not even talking about the idea of charging ppl money for this experience.
Summary: the game is not ready for public beta mostly because of a lack of content and not so much because of the current technical bugs. I predict that this 'beta/release' idea will be a disappointment for all involved parties.
Quite an excellent post and I believe the poor presentation, game-play mechanics and general instability will result in a critical panning for Dust. You are absolutely right, it's nothing like an MMO and there is absolutely nothing more deep in Dust than any other FPS doing the rounds out there.
There are some extremely deluded people on here that think this can be funded forever by EVE subs infinitely. it's just not going to happen. It's going to have to turn a profit and the only way that's going to happen is with a large dedicated fanbase that are shelling out for Aurum on a regular basis.
Just read impressions on any gaming forum and you'll see what the average gamer thinks of Dust.
CCP should have built a solid engine with great game-play mechanics and THEN imported all the stat heavy bollocks. It feels to me like they did it completely the other way around. |
