It is well known that a Keyboard & Mouse combo is significantly better input solution than any gaming controller. It is one of the reasons MS doesn't like cross platform play between Windows and Xbox games. The PC gamer will always win. The simple fact is from the hip shooting is drastically easier with KB/M. Adjustable DPI allows extreme targeting for sniping as well. Fine tuned actions are easier with large areas to use versus common functionality of thumb sticks. Thumbs are possibly the least sensitive of our digits. This is simple physiology.
However, this is a console game and a most PS3 gamers will not have a setup conducive to KB/M play. They will always be at a disadvantage. No matter how good the gamer or the controller they use. Not everyone is sitting at a desk to play games on their PS3.
Since the KB/M requires some setup simply enable a flag in the user profile that identifies them as a KB/M gamer. That would enable blocking them from Battles where the majority or the Corps use controllers. This would also allow gamers to be banned or blocked from Corp battles entirely or from Corps that do not think cheating is consistent with their goals.
All battles should be allowed to block KB/M players. Especially public instant battles. That should be the default. Only reverse that decision when all 32 players are using KB/M thus insuring a level playing field.
As an alternative to automatically blocking them I suggest the following SP adjustments. Never allow more than 6 KB/M gamers on a side. Never allow them to place higher than 10th in the WP list thus keeping their SP and ISK payouts dramatically lower. Consider lowering that number to 4.
This can be done easily by getting the total SP for a battle then performing a few arithmetic solutions and redistribute their winnings to controller users. This will let the K/D ratio fanatics keep their kills but it will limit the burden on everyone else on their equipment costs, SP efforts and settle some of the imbalance introduced by giving those with unlimited budgets to buy their way to a higher finish. A good gaming keyboard and mouse cost more than a brand new PS3 with Dual Shock 3 Six Axis Controller. And even a cheap mouse provides a significant advantage.
I suspect the game controller KD/R players will find it unsatisfactory to allow the easy kills to be included in global numbers. A possible solution would be to not count kills generated with KB/M players. Or reduce them to less than their counterparts in that particular battle thus ensuring parity.
You will find constant posts regarding allowing Mouse activity to override controller actions (for example re: Turrets). This is only trying to leverage their already sizable advantages over the majority of the Dust players. They want to click on the target and have the game shoot it for them. Similar to older over the shoulder RPGs (Diablo) or Click Fests as I used to call them. |

As long as something like this exists http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-Wireless-Keyboard-Voucher/dp/B009VUPA6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358266341&sr=8-1 KB&M is here to stay. Theyve already invested marketing the KB&M, wouldnt be smart on CCP's side. |

Coming from a long history of KB/M the KB/M setup is horrid, I despise the controller for FPS games and after trying the KB/M as it sits right now the controller is far more OP as some would suggest the KB/M is... |

I can see the usefulness of KB/M for fine aim, but frankly prefer fine movement control.
And yes, this seems like a horse that's been beaten to death, cloned, and beaten to death again so many times that it obviously has a DUST implant and a mercenary contract. |

Used both input methods and now I use the ds3 controller. Why? because there is not much difference between them once you have them set-up the way you like (sensitivity wise)

I would just like to quote the Trackball mouse http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/wireless-trackball-m570?crid=8 I have had a Trackball of some description for years, I use my thumb to move said ball. To this day it is my preferred mouse which I use when gaming, and I personally find it very accurate.
So to state that thumbs are the least sensitive of our digits without any sort of scientific proof makes me find it rather hard to believe. Though I'm willing to be proven wrong (and at the same time some sort of sensitive thumb freak) |

Thumbs are not very accurate and the muscle memory with mouse motion is excellent by comparison. Like I said, physiology. Measured, tested, verified. Not even rocket science.
I am faster on my PC with it. I just prefer controllers on consoles.
The other poster that pointed out Dust514 advertising regarding using KB/M was most helpful, however.

Sucker died eventually and it was never very good for games. A cheap mouse, a good pad and the track ball was toast in a game. I could probably beat it with a controller. |

Nobody presented a solution focused on the current SP limitations which, as you might recall, are significantly different today. I was responding to the potential influx of new players due in the next week. The majority will probably be just PS3 players that see Free To Play and they use controllers by default.
I never expected CCP to do anything. They rarely do. They only Nerf. So, that meant there was a chance it might happen.
If you had read my post you would see that I have not used a KB/M as I thought it was clear I did not use it for PS3 gaming. PC gaming, yes. Unless it is solo play than a wired controller is more enjoyable. Unless the idiot PC Game Developer could not figure out how to use a controller. Which includes almost all of them on a Mac.
Since Dust gaming is now only an hour or so effort these days than switching to a desk might work. I will give it try. They won't Nerf it.

Just plain NO!
There isn't that big of an advantage using kb/m and it is best that people can each use the controls that suit them best.
I have tried the kb/m and I personally find it harder to aim well using it. I prefer the PS3 controller after years of getting use to it. I want to fight people who are good with the kb/m. It makes me step up my game. |

As someone who has been using a KB/M for a couple days now, I do not have an inherent advantage over players. You would only have an advantage if other control schemes were horridly implemented. But, as of now, there is nothing about it that is OP. Using a turret with a mouse in this game isn't very good. It sucks. |
