I like popping in for an hour or so every day, I like the added predictability of where I and my opponents will be skill-wise, and I really like hitting that 50sp brick wall so I can go back to the real world.
Sure it'll be annoying on weekends when I'm in the mood for longer play-sessions, but that's what other video games were invented for.
I'm sure the system can be improved upon, but we should keep the hard SP cap until I'm at least through with Bioshock Infinite. |

yeah I dont mind it too much i can see why they did it, but its strange i feel really bad if i dont hit the cap, i only had a chance to play 3 games one night and didnt hit the cap, so the next morning before work i woke up 45 mins early so i can hit the cap :) sad i know.
With the old weekly cap, i would hit it and then tend to loose interest and i know from speaking to others they had this too so you would get spikes and drop off of when people want to play which surely you dont want this.

You could always have an SP cap mechanic that allows you to play and hour here and there without penalising you for either missing a day (with a daily cap) or hitting the weekly cap way before the weekly reset.
I have a proposal for a constantly regenerating SP pool here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=50511&find=unread |

I agree I like the way it is and try to make time even on the days I cant get on to hit the cap but for the people that can't hit the cap wouldnt it make the most sense to have rollover cap for say maybe a weeks time ? Not sure if this is programmable but seems the most logical... |

Wow, I really don't like you guys.
You think its a great idea having a mechanic in a game that promotes not playing it! I don't care that you don't want to/can't play much. Do everyone else a favour and stop playing all together. That way we won't have hundreds of people complaining that people like you have ****** up the game for them and you won't cry when someone shoots you in the face because they have a more advanced weapon.
lets be honest here. This is an FPS, if you do not have the time to practice at it then you are going to suck regardless of your skill points. So why ruin it for everyone else? To put it another way, you are in the minority. So once your done pissing off all the regular players and they quit, CCP will no longer have a stable income. They are not oing to get it off you because your not even playing the damn game! No more game - everyone crys.

I'm not sure how logging in every day, usually to the cap and sometimes for another match or two for kittens & giggles counts as "not playing the game".
And frankly I don't give two kittens that you are unable to endlessly grind your way to nigh invincibility. Make some alts if you are that desperate to keep the SP flowing. They're not going to be able to please everyone with any given system, so make the case for your preferred methodology here in the forums then learn to deal with whatever they decide to stick with. |

It's not a game you're supposed to play everyday for the skill points.
You play for isk, territory, assets - it's not all about character progression. It just feels that way because you're not fighting a constant war to keep all of the things you have. |

Because we all know Eve = teh hardcorz.
... Which DUST is specifically and explicitly not supposed to be. CCP wants casual gamer $$, and *I* want an Eve universe game I can play while building a career and maintaining a life. That's why I'm here to begin with.

Oh, look: people complaining that we casuals have ****** up the game for them by shooting them in the face with less-advanced weapons.

You presume a lot.
1. Regulars are constantly quitting, from Eve, too, for all kinds of reasons. Some come back. Some don't. They get replaced by vast swarms of new players. Eve has been "dying" since I started playing it, and it will still be "dying" (and at three times its current player count) in 2020 unless CCP screws the pooch in some spectacular way. I, personally, left because I didn't have the time or energy anymore-- and I came here, because this is theoretically a haven for those of us who have a bit less time and energy.
2. A FPS is not a freaking violin. I do not make music with my sniper rifle. Maybe some of you do, but, sorry, that's NOT a majority. Most of you miss an awful lot. That guy, yeah, the one who seems to be able to put a bullet through your head despite your lateral, zig-zagging dead run? He's got more going for him than just practice.
No, I'm not saying he's using a bot.
In any case, less violin, more bicycle.
3. The compulsive player might be the majority right now, but CCP is creating a niche game, here. I suspect the eventual DUST fan base will be those FPS-RPG players (ala S.T.A.L.K.E.R.) dedicated enough to keep playing, but with little-enough time that we don't get bored with the limited (in comparison to Eve) gameplay.
Just a guess. It may also be partly a matter of taste: FPS/RPGs seem to attract small, rabid followings (see, again, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.).

I don't think you should get diminishing returns on day two if you don't reach your daily cap on day one; it should all roll over until you finally reach it - possibly even get it multiplied until you reach the cap up to the limit of the day you reach, plus days prior.

Why would you not play the game if you're not getting skill points? Are you saying you only find the game fun if you're acquiring skill points? If so, perhaps this game is not for you then.
Deveshi wrote: lets be honest here. This is an FPS, if you do not have the time to practice at it then you are going to suck regardless of your skill points
So if you really don't need those skill points to be good you should be just fine practicing and playing without them. What's your problem then?

Agreed.
As much as people complain about this cap at least it prompts more people to play everyday, even if only for a small amount of time. People need to realize that this format is really helpful to keeping the game on peoples minds. I know I was just one of many who wouldn't make the time to play until the weekend, but then I would just usually forget about it. When I finally did sign back in I would be outclassed by boosters and people running around in proto gear after a week. There are so many games out, especially FPS's, that you need a system that keeps this one present in the players mind. |

You play for isk, territory, assets - it's not all about character progression. It just feels that way because you're not fighting a constant war to keep all of the things you have. Although I agree with you and Ownbama's post the teething problems are very evident. It is a Beta. Yes, I know that.
Aeon, your items don't exist yet. Only the ISK exists and once someone has acquired several million what does it mean? Not much. I can easily make 1M ISK a day. So it doesn't really matter because the only thing that really changes anything currently is SP. And that is being doled out as Ownbama comments regarding keeping more people playing everyday. Regardless of either of your positions CCP is explaining this as an MMO/FPS/RPG in EVE Space. The MMO part is lacking. The RPG is choked. The FPS is limited by the RPG and only the EVE players can see the long view because EVE has been a nine year project.
We need to have people to play with. They need the server infrastructure to be ramped up to handle the load. Having us all swoop in after a Tuesday (Wed US) weekly reset would leave few to play the noobs, except more noobs, on a typical weekend. Which is when the majority of new players will probably join us. So we play this way. A little bit everyday.
I look forward to more. To getting a planet to call our own. And a system. Different planets for different alliances of Dust Corps for example. It just isn't here yet. Or even territory. What is territory in DUST? Land. Continents. Planets. Space. I don't know and you are the first person to mention it to me. How is a DUST514 player going to connect to that possibility when they are not an EVE player? I don't know. I am not, nor have I ever been an EVE player.
I cannot progress my RPG characters, which you say I shouldn't even be focusing on. Only there is Nothing else to focus on. Driving a LAV backwards or running down Blue Snipers just are not things that can maintain my interest for long, if at all. And the average DUST Beta Tester is doing what exactly? Building up their FPG characters so they can get better gear. And working on enabling larger Corps by acquiring more SP.
My situation is worse than an outsiders. I saw what was possible. Now, what I played is no longer available nor will it ever be. To get back to where my two characters were will take ~five months. Adding my pilot back in or the pilot functionality will be another four months with most gain focused on one character. Over lapping them can get them back to where I was before the wipe, I can do better allocation this time anyway, will take four months of playing at least two characters daily for a couple of hours a day. Probably another month added on because the pilot issues weren't all known at the time. There still isn't an initial pilot equip.
And it is still a Beta. With no release date. |

I don't mind the current skill cap. It gives people a reason to log in each day, and stops vets from getting too far ahead.

I don't like the daily SP cap because it penalises me for not playing every day.
However, I understand that CCP want to encourage me to play every day, so I accept it. Simple enough, really. |
