A idea came to me, why not have a player run tournament? Its not like CCP will have their tournaments run all the time (might be once every 6 months like eve), it would fill the gaps in time, and do what in a player driven game should happen, player driven content.
I asked some interested parties (namely the winners of the last tournament) and they said that they would like to be in another tournament, providing good prize existed for the winner.
Which makes me wonder, what should be the prize? Dust isk, Eve isk, something else, and how would we go about getting it. Donations, a fee for entering into tournament?
Another way to add interest and reward is gambling, and with a % of all bids going to the winning team, would add more isk to the pool than entry fees alone (more reward for winner, without too high entry fee).
The big issue is how could this be done with NDA, what sort of restrictions would it give in doing this and how much information and resources can go back and forth between the games.
All interested parties, offer input in this thread, you can also contact me by mail I regularly check at Sephiroth CloneIIV
Anyone who wants to help is welcome as well and want to network soon so stuff can get rolling to get the tournament out soon. If someone is thinking of the same idea, I want to merge staff. |

Actually I just found out....... open beta starts jan 22
In other words, by the time potential first rounds will happen the NDA will not exist anymore.
So, in addition to all the other ideas, might be able to give live steams of the fights and commentators.

As a template for the tournament, I would refer to CCP's
http://www.dust514.com/beta/tournament/
Only changes I would prefer is a single elimination bracket, determined by one match. The initial pairing up being entirely random, and no distinction being made between north America and the rest of the world for who will be paired up with who.
No limit to the number of people in tournament, but to keep only serious people in 100 million isk dust money will be the entry fee. The fees will be utilized as the prize money for the tournament, so the more who enter the greater the prize, going with my other idea of single match elimination will allow the process to go 2/3 times faster.
One reason I want to include dust money as a prize and entry fee is that it is much more useful to dust players, and takes playing dust to get, filtering out any joke entry's to the tournament of corps with a single dust char and all eve chars with billions of eve isk (if by chance a joke entry still has 100 mil dust money, they contribute to the prize, so win win)
Prize money will be given 1/2 to the first place 1/4 to the second place. and 1/8 to the third and fourth place
So a rough estimate, assuming just 16, first prize 800 million isk dust money, second place 400 mil, if 32 teams enter, the prizes will be double that.
Also I believe interest in the tournament by eve players will also draw in eve isk as well, so additional prize money will be available as well. Miscellaneous items donated will be given to first place team (ships, planetary commontys and whatnot) |

If someone "put together" one of Dust's first player tournaments, had a reasonable entry fee from 1-5 mil. Then they themselves or had an alt or something go around to each contestants corp to collect the entry fee...and then they just kept it all and then laughed at all the corps they took money from. Wow I was just thinking this! However I would go one step further and keep all of everyone's betting money >:D
That's why I contacted Chibbra (person of great and lengthy reputation), who also has a dust character, he will likely be the one to handle the isk.
All issues will be considered. |

I can see having 10 million be the fee, so as to not break the bank, but this other stuff is a confusing system. Keep it simple and as few matches as possible being that each match might need to have a witnesses or judge.
Payout split between 1st through 4th place (place of course being getting in the final brackets) is much easier to do, and gives a bigger prize they are fighting for.
Kleanur Guy wrote:EDIT: Too lazy to redo it all,but instead of prize corps you could just send your alt to the winnings corporation Herpderp. I have an idea. The entry feed would be something like 5mil, each corp would be made a winnings corporation where some of their entry would go to probably made by an alt of the leader, and then a total prize pool corporation would be made where the rest will go. With 16 teams, that would mean a maximum of 4 games for whoever comes first and second. When you win, you get 1 mil back and the losers are knocked out the remaining money in the winnings corporation is split among 1st to 4th place. 5mil fee = 80mil pool. Deduct 24 mil for corporations being made. 56mil. Round 1. 8mil given back. 48mil. QF 4mil given back. 44mil. SF 2mil given back. 42mil. GF 1mil given back. 41mil is left in the prize pool. Also my math may be wrong didnt give it to much thinking but thats just a general idea. WINNER get 20mil. 2nd 12mil. 3rd 6mil. 4th 3mil. ^ THIS WOULD BE SCALED UP A LOT. Maybe a group system would work better. Group A - 34mil prize pool (doubled entry fee for example). Group B - 34mil prize pool etc. 12 mil per group would be deducted for 2 mil wins. etc etc. 88mil for the top 8 teams left etc. Or even more ISK put back in to the wins rather than the final prize pool. Bets to win would be too hard because the odds of IMP vs randomcorp would be 1:5000, however, score difference is another thing. Maybe it would be better for ppl to bet on the difference in tickets, ie. 50ticket win and the 3 or so closest to the actual score would get their money back and some. Would be a lot on the person hosting it's part. Don't hate on my math!
