In the spirit of [Request] ACTIVE dropsuit modules (similar to "superpowers") I would like to suggest a new variant of the Prototype Triage Repair Tool.
The premise being to add an overheat mechanic which runs in parallel with an increase in performance while in active use. If held for too long the tool overheats and damages the user etc. much like the laser. The goal of this Repair Tool would be to provide a level of restored HP/s closer to parity with the dps of incoming fire from advanced (i.e. sub proto) level weaponry. However requiring a greater level of tactical and battlefield awareness to capitalize on that extra repair rate due to the combined function of the overheat and 'slow build' mechanics.
Additionally placing such a Repair Tool within the proto range provides additional incentives to skill further into the tree and more opportunities for players to specializes in battlefield sub-roles.
I have intentionally omitted any numbers from the suggestion as specific figures would require careful balance to properly implement this idea.

Not bad.
The Super Powers are just Halo shield mods, BTW. Been there. Got bored there. Left there. Don't want to go back there.
That is why I am here. |

I'd be interested if I could manually trigger the overload (like in Eve). I prefer to keep a lock-on at all times so if this mechanism were to work in a similar fashion as laser riffles I'd probably not use it. |

Having an overheat related skill in game would be very interesting I'd like to see it in D514 (tho there are several aspects which would need to be looked at, such as current gear with overheat, the way to maintain a cost as in EVE since damage doesn't require ISK to be spent only complete loss, etc. Still a very appealing concept).
For this Tool however it would simply be a new addition to the options already on the market. It's a more situational piece of equipment, but it could provide great tactical utility within well coordinated squads (or teams in the Tourny/Corp battle setting).
I'm sure it wouldn't be for everyone, but don't you agree that offering more fitting options to players (provided they're not game breaking of course) adds to the diversity/interest of the game as a whole?
Thanks for your feedback

Still hoping to hear from more Logi's on this. (Or more Heavies for that matter, as armor Heavies are the most likely to see top benefit from this). |

As a heavy and logi user I like this idea as I understand it. It starts off regular to light repping but the longer it's on the higher it reps. With a backblast for over extended use. Is that right?
If so, class. Example: You know there's a bunch of tangos around the corner. The logi locks the tool on and warms it up. Once it's hitting the higher rep rate the logi gives the heavy the nod, who charges around the corner tearing into the tangos, knowing that he/she only has a limited amount of time of being able to tank damage before the tool messes up the logi.
I'm not sure how to limit abuse. Maybe have a very short range on the tether? The logi would nearly have to be getting a piggyback its that short |

Correct, it'd start at a light (likely 33 or lower HP/s) level of rep and then ramp up effect the longer it was in continuous use. If used for too long at a stretch the overheat causes a backblast doing damage to the user and causing a longer cooldown timer before the Tool could lock another target.
You're example is spot on regarding possible use, and the variant could have sub-variants to prevent abuse but allow for options.
- Short range
- Single lock
- Increased ISK cost (with Lower Fitting requirements )
As some examples
It's late so I'm call the post here, but I'm glad you approve, thanks for posting.

I haven't accrued enough SP to skill out of the basic Rep Tool yet, but I would greatly enjoy the diversity of a tool like this, especially with the knowledge that player skill would play an utmost part in mitigating personal/friendly damage.
There have been a few situations I have come across already where I have rez'd a friendly only to lose them to the slow rep rate (I know it gets better), but the prospect of running the field, trying to maintain peak repping capacity would be an awesome personal challenge if nothing else. |

Sounds good. Currently the game has been lacking in that there's no repper that would enable under-fire repairs without being broken at all times. |

@All, Still looking for more feedback on this concept (pro or neg) as I think further diversity within the in game items will really benefit D514 in the long run (provided they are balanced additions )

Certainly as biased as i am to logi upgrades i find this idea appealing. I remember we had a post like this months ago, and it is good to bring it up again. I see it as a weapon variant similar to other classes. Take the HMG vs the Burst HMG for the heavies. One does more damage in a small amount of time on a specific target. while the other is a constant spray of lower damage death.
Right now the reppers are a constant rate so the limiting factor is time available to repair. Creating what you suggest is just similar to a burst variant of the reppers. Huge increase in a small amount of time - this would then be balanced by overheat time, cooldown, or damage from overheat.
I like the idea because it could grant a few seconds of immunity or quickly restore armor in a heated situation, so i can clearly see the advantages.
My only concern is introducing the overheat - like the reload function on reppers. If the overheat became standard even on the slow reppers (what we have now) i would greatly oppose bringing this into play without a studied balance.
However, I in the spirit of super powers - could this also be a module to add this effect to any repper? - bringing it into the game with other skill modules that open the possibilities and gain bonuses for leveling the skill. Letting anyone with a repper experience the possibility of playing with it? |
