Cyn Bruin wrote:One thing about this daily cap I'm wondering if CCP considered. I used to spend 2k aurum on a 1-day Active Booster for my alt character and just grind his weekly SP out over that period. With this daily cap, I won't be using a daily booster anymore and I can't see that anyone would considering the return on investment.
I need to look at the whole daily SP picture before I comment more on good/bad of it and considering we are getting wiped in two days... interesting times.
30 day booster is what will be the most invested in if this is the case of daily cap. Buying Merc packs will be essential to keeping up the pace on Skill points.
IMO the move to daily was for the boosters, which is how CCP will make IRL money. Which basically turns out to be what a subscription price would be per month, again how CCP and Sony intend this game to be played. |

Cyn Bruin wrote: I am on the fence with THE core system in DUST514. IMO the SP system will be the biggest thing that either retains or pushes away everyday FPS players, regardless of whatever SP system they put in (daily, weekly, no cap).
When I am in my PS3's menu deciding what game I want to play, the two things that enter into my mind are entertainment and accomplishment. If a game accomplishes both of those I will probably play it. When I "beat" the game, I usually don't pick it up much anymore.
For example, when I hit max level and opened all the weapons on BF3, my playtime on that game winded down to nil. So with DUST514 there needs to be an incentive to keep playing. The SP system and acquiring skills accomplishes that. But at what entertainment value?
Is logging into DUST going to be a chore I have to perform everyday or is it going to be something I look forward to playing when I get home from work?
This is why I think CCP has their work cut out for them with the SP system. It needs to cater to so many player types it's VERY hard to get it right. A "perfect" SP system would make the HC gamer that plays 6-8hrs a day and the casual gamer happy with everything theyve accomplished on a dialy basis. Making it not only worthwhile to log in, but fun.
I have a great time grouping with my corp. mates, but in the end don't we also want to further out characters at the same time?
I feel for CCP since this will be one of the biggest questions they have to answer. EVE side players are used to a long character training (think months and years). The average FPS player isn't used to waiting months to further skills, which is going to be the retention challenge presented to CCP.
Like we discussed on Sunday, we are only playing maybe 20-25% of this game, so while SP's are good they will not be the only thing we try to acquire.
Also look at other MMO's which Dust an EVE are. DCUO, WoW, Rift you do hit a true Skill point cap at certain levels. Then as expansions come out you were able to get more Lvls. Dust wont go down that route, but FPS players will have to get used to the idea of a slow progression in this game. Its not a race to the end its a battle to survive in Eve.

CCP trolled yall. Welp I am sitting on 10 Merc Packs. Thats 10 months of active boosting and 10 months of Passive Boosting. AUR FTW
I have 7 Merc packs so yeah I am ready for it :) |

Logarithmically decreasing function with a 2 week quota that is filled up by 1/14 per day is the answer, assuming the question isn't "how do we drive away our players most efficiently"?
Not the lame thing they got now.
With all MMO's everything is a work in progress, its not set in stone.
Guys we are collecting data for CCP, they are TESTING new ideas on us. Think about that first and then look at what they are doing. This is what the 3rd or 4th version of Skill points. Give it a try then after a few weeks lets give input and see what they do. |

Which means if you play a skirmish game of 30 minutes you get 9000 SP per game. 3 skirmishes and you have reached your cap. With the boosters thats your 40K daily SP there . Turn of the PS3 after that and go get some sunshine . What are you talking about ? I went 22/8 first in the leaderboards last night to get 7.5K and 160,000ISK not worth busting my butt at all and getting good gear thats 20 skirmish games you have to go 22/8 in to upgrade a 155K skill and 28 skirmish games at 22/8 for a 215k upgrade
That was last night, not today. |

Passive SP and boosters are killing this FPS , yea its cool to not have to play but it really screws the people that do play. With a game in beta stage that is so hell bent on having skills and gear matter to play , the reward has to be the same.
ISK BS, we get tons and tons of ISK now. Wearing 300,000 ISK per loadout and still have 20 million sitting around.
How are SP boosters killing this FPS? You do understand this is a FPS MMO right, lets say it once more MMO it takes forever to get skill points. We are not talking COD and a few weeks of playing, we are talking YEARS to get invested in this game. |

We are not talking COD and a few weeks of playing, we are talking YEARS to get invested in this game. Its not a MMOFPS , it just likes to call itself one but thats another thread. I havent with no boosters gotten over 200,000 isk a match if i wore a 300,000 load out and went 22/8 i still lost. in a month i have stocked pile ISK as well just running milita fits to about 5mil now when im mid sp and still can get steamrolled in a match. a kill should give you your load out value to be able to keep running what you like and to improve upon without a Eve or Corp transfer. Yes they do because it screws up the standard to balance off of. have AUR give weapons and outfits, not mess with progression in such a heavy need to have SP in something to work right. Dont like COD and it makes people sound like they have no clue what their talking about when they run to COD all the time for a argument. No one saids Wow for any MMORPG reference
YES it is a FPSMMO, what part of this don't you get? Boosters do not effect ISK just Skill points. Last night I had skirmish and ambush matches with over 300,000 ISK payouts.
You have mid skill points? how much do you have? the avg player has anywhere from 6 million to 11 million in Skill points as of today. Maybe its not how much skill points you have but where you are putting them. I talked to a player that put them all into guns and not armor or shields and always complained he got killed to easy, now he is fully skilled in both and runs great.
I don't think you get the part about Eve and Dust and one universe. You will need Eve pilots, Eve ISK and BPO from Eve to be successful. Money is this game is one of the most if not the most powerful thing we have.
Sorry but to play a class or weapon right, you need to invest in it.
Im sorry you don't like the COD reference but it does work as a point of discussion regarding the longevity of the game being years vs COD being 1 year if that.
And yes WoW, Rift, DCUO are all MMO's and a viable reference to Dust. If you don't remember to the past you are doomed to repeat it.
Also most of what you wrote did not make sense, please consider rereading your posts for clarity and then send in, I know English is not your first language so I am trying to help you out here. |

Crm234 wrote:2 mil only in SP i didnt sit with passive on when i had finals for a month and had a fracture hand before that . its not a MMOFPS at all its a match base 48 player game with a closed environment. It doesnt matter if 100 games are happening its still just 48 players. Eve is the MMO not Dust and we both know the connection will not effect Eve. Also 300,000k isk is still bull when the load out can cost you maybe 150,000isk. if you died twice your losing money and SP makes the gear you buy work so it is unfair to progression. If this beta increases my reward to 15k SP a match that means your booster has to do about 25k to make the booster worth it.Allowing you to fly through SP steam rolling and the normal playerbase a good progression.
The only thing that is MMO ish is the market but i dont see Eve pilots needing assault rifles , so we will mostly be selling to our own.
Another fact is we like Eve but really dont need Eve, our MCC could do everything the Eve pilot can do and dont need Eve players to make items for us if we kept the market as is.
This is Dust biggest mistake is not reading the definition of the game its making.
MMOFPS is an online gaming genre which features a persistent world and a large number of simultaneous players in a first-person shooter fashion.[10][11] These games provide large-scale, sometimes team-based combat. The addition of persistence in the game world means that these games add elements typically found in RPGs, such as experience points.[citation needed] However, MMOFPS games emphasize player skill more than player statistics, as no number of in-game bonuses will compensate for a player's inability to aim and think tactically.[12]
Neocron is sometimes considered the first MMOFPS,[12][13] most consider it a hybrid of MMORPG and first-person shooter,[14][15] with the later PlanetSide allowing 399 players all to fight together on the same map. Some may consider Zipper's MAG an MMOFPS as it allows up to 256 players to fight together on the same map.[16] The newest, and by far the biggest, MMOFPS to date PlanetSide 2, sequel to the original game. It is able to support up to 2,000 players in a single map, or continent of the game with a max cap of 6,000 players on a single server fighting across different continents.
Ok, so 2 million is not much it barley covers the first things to get into skill point wise to stay alive let alone be dominant in. You should have bought with AUR 1 BPO of each militia item and saved yourself early in the game tons of ISK for better skill book purchases as those are expensive.
Is Dust 514 a MMOFPS yet.. NO will it be very soon YES!!!! We are in beta, we are playing roughly 20-25% of the whole game right now. So that MMO part and open world aspect like Eve and other MMO's have is coming. Dust in EVE means both will be MMO's one in space and one on the planets but its still one big MMO universe.
A lot of us don't die to often now that we have 7 to 11 million in SP's to protect ourselves with even our cheap gear or proto gear. Also we don't run expensive gear all match, maybe 1 or 2 times we die then we go to militia gear or lesser gear for the rest of the match so we don't lose ISK.
We don't need 25k in SP each match again you're thinking about this game like its a normal FPS and not a MMO, which it is. CCP has stated over and over this game will take 7 Years of playing to get all the skill points. At your pace of 25k per match that is more like 1 year or less to get it all, you see what I am saying ? This is a MMO because of the time invested in this to get good enough to hold your own. Stop thinking shortsightedly and think long term playing.
Again you don't get the Eve side of this yet do you? Eve will contribute Blue Print Originals, that means all gear, weapons and equipment will be purchcased through Eve pilots/corps and then sold to us or given to your own corp mates. Again you don't get what is going on when they say One world/One Universe. The market place for both sides (dust an eve) will be HUGE and not small at all.
Also those Orbitals will be gone, replaced by EVE ships firing on us. Your MCC who do you think drives that thing??
Look trying to help you out but you are taking Beta Dust as the game and its not even close to the full game yet, Eve is such a big Universe and will be so important to Dust players that is what will make this a really HUGE MMO.
oh and posting wiki posts will never ever help your case. You fail to understand what the game is going to become so you dont see how it is a MMO.

Crm234 wrote:I meant there not truly needed and if we cut from Eve that were not we would be fine. Im going to try and type slower because two people have commented that im going broken english when i rapid reply. I understand the 7 year process and investment, but when you mess with damage & range on a FPS players weapon or Radar we get pissed. Especially when we see a SP system that charges you to make your weapon work sorta speak. Thats my biggest complaint and have no problem waiting to unlock something but once ive unlocked the weapon. It needs more SP to work. We dont have the 2000 players planetside 2 has to cover the low skill players. With 48 players and double the size map, its going to be always a one on one Sp gear battle.
I get what you are getting at, but this game was designed with one goal to make a FPS MMO on PS3 (or PS4) to sink with Eve on PC. Thats the whole point of this game. While we don't have to have Eve holding our hands, we are going into their world not them coming to us. We are an expansion of them.
No worries about the English, you are doing fine. And actually this is the best so far, so good Job.
Again this is an MMO, not my first either. Things we MMO vets all know about. Every weapon, equipment and gear will get NERFED. No really this is how it happens, all weapons are not equal when made we the players play and test and we provide the data form them to change. But trust me ALL items in this and ALL MMO's will get nerfed or tweaked so get very use to it.
How does the current SP system charge you to make weapon work (please clarify)
Ah, ok so like me I have a Mass Driver. I invested SP's into it to unlock it, but with more SP's I get to unlock more AND get better stats on it. This is so you can make a low level weapon/item work better but at a cheaper cost. Again this is how a MMO works SP's turn into gear/weapons thats the investment. Actually when we go Open Beta in the next few weeks we will have 5000-10000 players on. This is a closed beta and not many players as of yet.
Also map size, just wait dude you missed the first build and early maps that make any map we are on now seem small. Imagine 5-10 times the current size of maps we have now and 36 vs 36 or more maps. Thats the goal in Dust. |

Crm234 wrote:Its bad enough you have SVER in your name ha ha just kidding as a Raven player for over a year but please stop with the MMOFPS with 72 players and boarders. If this game didnt classify itself as a MMOFPS i think that would be amazing and awesome but not for a MMOFPS.
No two same weapons should shoot differently with range and damage without a attachment. I dont mind 20 different AR`s that shoot, look, feel ,and damage differently unlocked through seven years. Its very bad for a FPS in my opinion to have two people shooting with the same modules but one shooting at 500 ft 45dmg and the other shooting 250ft 30dmg. all because of SP no attachment like a rifled barrel and balance. IF you shoot farther than less impact happens when it hits the target type balance that is common in FPS games.
Also SP shouldn't make things lighter ,its the price you pay for using better guns. Im slowly finding out that i can make my AR`s like feathers with every upgrade to efficiency i want to say, You should need new suits to keep up with them or less modules.
For you the mass driver is just upgrading the mass driver but for someone that doesnt have its more like this . I know its not exact and this is why there is such QQ for SP
Circuits Sensors Engineering Grenadier Side Arm operation so you dont have two weapons that suck Side Arm efficiency Side Arm operation Mass Driver Operation Weaponry
Now we just got to buy the first entry level Mass driver thats garbage without these being lvl 3
Mass driver operation Mass driver clip size Mass driver reload Mass driver efficiency so on
Its just gets to the point of WT blank just allow me to get the ability to buy the weapon and have it work to its full potential and if I like it i will upgrade the other skills to get the next model.
First I never played that dumb POS game MAG and never will. Hate all you want, but that game was garbage. I get what you are saying but this is how Dust and Eve are made, if you don't like it then this is the wrong game again not COD or BF or what ever, you speck SP into a weapon to make it better. Sorta like an Exile AR its ok to start but you get Sharpshooter and Prof up then it can be as effective as a Proto item but with out the cost and with out the CPU/PG cost. Thats a benefit to the player not a hindrance as you see it. You can SP up any basic weapon to make it a great weapon or turn a great weapon into a super weapon. Welcome to Dust, dont like it HTFU or Get out. (sorry had to say it).
The way you describe how you want SP's to work reminds me of COD and Im never going back to that.
Again this is a MMOFPS not a regular FPS, which is what you want. You fail to grasp how big this universe is about to get. |

Crm234 wrote:See that's the problem you hate that customization that is what FPS players crave the most, its not just a COD thing its a FPS thing that this game truly fails to realize and might get bitten in the butt for . You can call it what you think it is but in till its open world and goes past 150 players like the definition of a MMOFPS its a FPS that is connected to a MMORPG. A string of matches connected to each other by points.
There is a reason why FPS games are designed the way they are , by telling them we are just doing the boring grind RPG progression your telling FPS players not just COD players we don't want you. When there is at least 6 FPS titles a year and more Free to play games popping up on the PC everyday CCP will drastically limit its Free to play game and cater to the wrong genre of players. Plus sony can say no to the PS4 if it feels it didnt make enough traction on the PS3.
Dude, this is customization for a beta. They will add grips, sights, attachments to each gun, you gotta give them time man.
I don't hate customization I LOVE IT. Ive played everything on PC and PS3/Xbox. I miss making my DCUO character with each individual item custom colored and made the way I want. I love in COD the adding of grips and new sights. But this is BETA, we will see all of that PLUS the skill customization of the weapon with SP's.
You want a weapon to be basic, once you own it its done except to add on sights (the reason we have iron sight now), grips, color and more. To you thats customizing it, to me thats adding to the gun. To customize a gun IMO is to make it shoot farther, the spread gets tighter, the accuracy gets better all of it done with SP's.
But to each their own I guess. Have to go, but good conversation.
