I am on the fence with THE core system in DUST514. IMO the SP system will be the biggest thing that either retains or pushes away everyday FPS players, regardless of whatever SP system they put in (daily, weekly, no cap).
When I am in my PS3's menu deciding what game I want to play, the two things that enter into my mind are entertainment and accomplishment. If a game accomplishes both of those I will probably play it. When I "beat" the game, I usually don't pick it up much anymore.
For example, when I hit max level and opened all the weapons on BF3, my playtime on that game winded down to nil. So with DUST514 there needs to be an incentive to keep playing. The SP system and acquiring skills accomplishes that. But at what entertainment value?
Is logging into DUST going to be a chore I have to perform everyday or is it going to be something I look forward to playing when I get home from work?
This is why I think CCP has their work cut out for them with the SP system. It needs to cater to so many player types it's VERY hard to get it right. A "perfect" SP system would make the HC gamer that plays 6-8hrs a day and the casual gamer happy with everything theyve accomplished on a dialy basis. Making it not only worthwhile to log in, but fun.
I have a great time grouping with my corp. mates, but in the end don't we also want to further out characters at the same time?
I feel for CCP since this will be one of the biggest questions they have to answer. EVE side players are used to a long character training (think months and years). The average FPS player isn't used to waiting months to further skills, which is going to be the retention challenge presented to CCP.

One thing about this daily cap I'm wondering if CCP considered. I used to spend 2k aurum on a 1-day Active Booster for my alt character and just grind his weekly SP out over that period. With this daily cap, I won't be using a daily booster anymore and I can't see that anyone would considering the return on investment.
I need to look at the whole daily SP picture before I comment more on good/bad of it and considering we are getting wiped in two days... interesting times. |

Sentient Archon wrote:Welp Active Boosters do play a role. Instead of 27K SP you get 40K SP per day. It would still give you an edge over the ones without the skill boosters. Say you play 2 days with the active boosters and miss the 3rd day, you have already made up for it with those 2 days.
However I rather I skill up day 1 and focus on corp battles though than spending every day of my life playing Dust just to skill up.
It may work for Eve but not for a FPS.
Agreed. Here are the numbers figuring that you actually maxed out that daily Sp everyday...
285,600 Active SP weekly (with ACTIVE skill booster which most use) 168,000 Passive SP weekly (no booster, i dont use them, waste of aurum imo, only 84k per week more with).
=
453,600 Total SP per week
The above numbers are what it is NOW with the Daily SP cap. That number seems lower than the weekly SP cap. |

They do need to implement a 3rd currency system to go with isk/SP. Probably LP like they have in EVE on faction warfare. Something else we can strive to earn on a daily basis.

I agree with this, but look at the flip side...
With a daily cap you WILL fall behind no matter what if you dont play, you will be losing 40k SP per day with boosters.
With a weekly cap, you MIGHT be falling behind due to play times, but if you miss a day you can still make it up and stay on pace with the HCs.
Do I like either? meh not really, I don't have a replacement idea other than No Cap, or a Pool system like others have mentioned.
The Pool system would be the best solution atm. Because no matter how many days you missed playing, you would still be able to "catch up" to the HCs provided you played when you had free time.
