Few players are honor bound. Most are mercs. And mercs are as loyal as their budgets allow. As unfortunate as it is to lose a player to a price point, I'm sure many corps will thrive on hired help.

I got some hate mail kind of similar to what OP said.
Look, BSotT doesn't try to recruit people from other corps, BSotT recruits freelancers or works out a deal with a corp CEO. Where you got the idea that BSotT tries to steal mercs, I don't know. That's my public service announcement right there.
Edit: Wait, you said Buy? That's completely legitimate. All mercs are prostitutes. That's how it works. |

"this is the biggest bs thing anyone can do...."
Nope, not even close; but since you prefaced this with, "im not going to lie" it must be true. Let me read it again -Nope. Still not even close.
"I get this is eve and dust." -was where you should have stopped that sentence.
Attempting to purchase other players seems quite civil to me. |

Players who can be bought from a corp and sellout like that, arent going to be loyal to anyone. I say good riddance, as they obviously can't be trusted.
Now say if somebody was going to leave a corp anyway, and XY corp finds this out and says to the player "Hey, if you come over to us we'll hook you up" then that is fine, because that player is fair game. But to leave a corp only because somebody offers to buy you out, lacks integrity and honor. |

Wait until they start buying your XO to back stab your entire corp.
Or even worst case scenario. Buy your CEO.
It has happened in Eve. |

Kind of depends on the price doesn't it?
So what should the going rate be for, lets say, a team oriented assault player with a 5 KDR?
Anyone have a suggestion? |

One of Eve Online's most successful mega alliance was actually destroyed by such move. Band of Brothers, matter of fact it seems to be the most common reason why mega-alliances lose to their enemies. |

I'm saying the people who will be bought out can't be trusted, because they'll obviously turn their back on the corp they're in whenever there's a better opportunity for money. |

This yes. And we do mostly play these kinds of games for the social aspect no? I would never just leave a corp just to get some ISK. The clan or corp needs to be checked out thoroughly first. If you don't like and enjoy your partners in evil then whats the point? Back in MAG I had friends (and still do) that I played with for almost 3 years. It comes to a point were you do "tactical manouvers" on quite the high level without even thinking about it. I knew I had the guys at my back, coming in killing whoever killed me and picking me up after I ran in and cleared half the room first, and so on.
I had one guy travel acros europe to hang out with me for a week and two deadly bluedots actually got married after the american branch had a hang out in vegas. You just don't get that sort of thing when jumping from clan to clan. In MAG there were a sort of flavor of the month clan as many of the elites formed, abandoned, and rinse and repeat, its stupid.
And what good is money anyway? Yes running protogear all the time is hard to finance on these pub matches alone. I for one would be very happy just to get those roughly 25% isk I come short of sustaining my 240k fittings. If you are a good player then falling back to a 120K fitting from time to time really shouldn't be a problem. |
