DUST has two major issues.
1. Too many people use militia gear (Although you might be making money you are drastically reducing your survivability against players using better gear)
2. People don/t know how to build their characters. ( I was playing with a friend of mine earlier and was a bit annoyed he couldn't build his character correctly..) CCP really does need to add an auto skill system for the people who dislike going through menu after menu in order to make their character stronger.
in terms of infantry battle, the only REAL reason as to why people cried things were OP is simply because they run militia gear or they have no idea as to how to fit a character properly. The flattening of not only the weapon damage, but also the dropsuit HP values were completely unwarranted, considering everything was balanced within their specific gear tier as it should have been.
Build after build, this game has devolved into a mindless shooter where people really don't have to think much when in gun battles besides holding down R1 or tapping it w/e it is that people desire. Back in replication, If you wanted to beat better players you had to outsmart them, and force them to battle you on your own terms were you had an advantage.
Gun-game is important, but f you can't build a character both effectively and efficiently you suck in this game. I know plenty of people that have fantastic skills on other games, but they try this one out and can't properly build a character so they suffer for it.
People simply need to learn how to effectively skill characters, or CCP needs to add some preset character paths that can be auto skilled.
If this game continues down the route it's going i'll delete it off my playstation and continue to play Blackops II. This game doesn't need to be another mindless BattlefieldMAGofDuty clone.
************************
Like with most "competitive" multiplayer games there's always a two week period in which your success at the game is often dictated. Of course, you can pick up the game after that period, but things are substantially more difficult, because people not only have figured out both the maps and which weapons to use. In addition to that two week period DUST has an ongoing arms race. This race forces people to play in order to get better gear. The skillcap was put in place to somewhat alleviate that arms race, and give people that can't play as hard as "no-lifers" a chance to remain somewhat competitive. ( I was one of the few good players in favor of the skill cap seeing as I can't play DUST 24/7 like some other people)
Smart players know how to get to their proto weapons within the first hours of a new build. This allows them to mop the floor with people who are playing in their miltia gear thinking "ohh golly gee i'm dying, but making a profit" Realistically speaking your only doing yourself a disservice by running militia gear . You're drastically lowering your survivability rate, and basically bending over before your opponent.
TOO LONG DIDN'T READ VERSION
-ONLY IDIOTS RUN MILTIA GEAR. Use the best gear you have. Chances are you'll perform better in a match. Figure out ways in which you can minimize your losses using your best gear.
-CCP needs to create preset skill paths in which players can auto skill. Not everybody wants to go through all the menu's in order to customize their character. Some people really want to just play the game without having to focus on the "RPG elements"
-The old battle finder needs to return with gear specific matches that way people just learning the game theoretically have a space to play without having to run into players they shouldn't have a chance in hell against.

Few builds back tho how many ppl QQ over the fact that if you were proto gear you were a god while it took several enemy members to kill you if you were not in proto
TBH i liked that build, tanks were strong aswell and you had to gear up into proper AV and organize an ambush to get em
Now its milita>everything else because milita can do just as good a job as everything else and also it reuires no isk or sp even and even then just pick a few skills to lvl up to make your milita gear perform better
Ther is little reason to lvl up anymore
Even with HAVs tbh if i started this build again i wouldnt do it because its pointless i would have stuck to Gunlogis instead or maybe even pimp out milita tanks, same with dropsuits i got the BPO MAG suits and im fine with them so i dont bother lvling up for that extra slot or PG/CPU because i dont really need it
If you put the suits back to what they were or even at half way ppl will QQ that milita ppl dont have a chance |

I would rather you use your own knowledge to make a guide to character building rather than an auto builder which would take away the uniqueness of each player. |

1) Only idiots ? No, only poor people . Seriously, I don't think that the goal is to play full proto all the time. The goal is to use proto when you need to (corp battle, attack/defend a planet, or when you have a full proto team on quick battle). With passiv skills, at release, what a shame to spend so many ISK in a proto weapon every single death. You need to buy skill books... it's my opinion... I'm sure you managed to make ISK in your way, I'm maybe not as good as you to do it like this.
2) Why not, but preset skill paths must not be better than a personal one. If people don't like RPG elements, it's not a game for them...

Some people play this game because it is an MMO/RPG/FPS. Being from CCP makes a difference as well.
In point of fact the only reason I have the game is the RPG aspect. I normally hate FPS that is multi-player. Too many military wanna be or ADD under age Kittens to bother with.
And, as previously stated, Militia gear works fine on many of the Instant battles. Not all I realize and when I am bumped up against the hard SP cap I will normally run free Fits. Because making ISK is the only reason to be running with the cap. |

Dust still has it , but a little less now the superman effect that only works great in a PvE environment RPG games that fails miserably in FPS games.
Ever see a superman cartoon where the villains are just shooting at superman and the bullets are just bouncing off till the gun is out of bullets . Then they say to themselves What the heck , might as well just throw the gun at him. That is in a nut shell Dust514
There is really no reason sometimes to run anything but militia gear in Dust514 when you faced with the above or you are playing with a weapon that has low SP since nothing works till lvl 5 not when you buy it. Or the guns work the same and look the same.
Having RPG elements are great , but when you start designing a RPG instead of a FPS for a FPS title it wont do well . Even a game as complex as Chess the Queen has the same amount of hitpoints as the pawn, She just moves different ways. |

Why run high ISK suit's on worthless pub stomping games? BPO is great to SP and ISK grind for the real games, corp battles!
So now if CCP made it worth my while to bring in the high ISK suit's during a pub stomping game, say like more SP or ISK for winning said pub stomping game then maybe just maybe I would sacrifice my high ISK suit's.
CCP IMO does not need to spend time with presets paths because as soon as open beta hits there will be more guides on how to build you suit than we will know what to do with. Let CCP work on player count!
Old battle finder with gear specific matches, yes please! +1 |

All those things are fairly accurate. Personally, the game isn't fun until you get that high level gear and I don't really care to grind my life away on a game that isn't fun. The guns don't feel cool to use, the grenades are weird and unrealistic, the maps aren't interesting once within 20ft of anything (why are all the railings chest high?). We jump like we are on the moon. The whole experience is still clunky and uninspired. |

its not even gear, because its the same models and fire modes. Its stats
I really dont think the eve player base or CCP get FPS games at all. Thats horrible with a genre that produces about 11 new titles a year.
I really cant find the reason why this beta is designed like 2003 title with gun animations, firing, movement, progression, player tracking, player count, graphics, customization, hit detection .
it really feels like the stat system is the major factor in this game that everything else has to be reduced for and it will never appeal to a FPS market based off the fact no FPS players wants the superman effect in a game ever.
Also firestorm your good guy, plus was hitting the whiskey last night as well . |

Good call about all the stats. I would imagine it takes a lot of memory and bandwidth for the server to tell each individual ps3 what the personal stats, modules, and equipment 24 other people have. We sacrifice 128v128 so people can get a stat that magically makes your gun shoot farther. Wth |

That is the thinking im talking about,
Spawning Player Tracking Hit detection Player Counts Animations Customization
Are not just a MAG thing, its a FPS thing. High Player counts are great because more is forgiven for the sake of its got a lot of players and less FPS developers attempt it.
Like the ocean or trees not looking great or the boxes look all the same. If there is 100 players your not staring at items long enough. Even a little more of lag is expected and can slide by. If it chooses to go low player counts than its compared next to COD,BF3,Killzone,Crysis, Halo, and just because you dont think so the general public will. Also Dust has classified itself as a MMOFPS meaning player counts on one match, blame planetside for creating the standard. Also when a FPS has low players the animation bells and whistles need to come out to play or it just lazy coding on the developer.
Two reasons why people use MAG a lot in conversations in Dust. One MAG was the closes attempt at a MMOFPS on the PS3 and second MAG players are the only FPS gamers without a home. COD got black ops 2, BF3 got a expansion, Crysis 3 i think is in development. Far cry 3 just launched or soon will. Also if you own a comp there is Planetside 2 , ghost recon online, War something Russian, battlefield online, tribes online that's off the top of my head. |

+1 gear specific matches are required or at least matches with to low payout to be viable to feild proto or adv gearin my mind this will probably be most high sec PvP engagments.
Iam not sure where you are getting the idea that it is stupid to run militia that is just from a KDR prespective militia gear is less valid, while on a profit to loss running militia is the most efficient method, youd be suprised how effective bleeding tactics can be at times to make it to expencive for the corp to hold ground eventually the corp will cut losses and pull out.
Preset skills while a good thing but i wouldnt make it automatic give them the tools to find out what skills help for certain areas like the cert system in eve, a example of this would be Cert ______ to get this you need skill A, Skill B, Skill C once you have these skills you can perform the basics roles of what ever they just skilled for. To do it automaticly would be avoiding a large part of the game that defines your character if one does not want to upgrade skills then does he deserve to be as good as someone who does bother
This game has a few things it could learn from other games like Mag and battlefield BC2 but i think other games have alot more to learn from dust at this stage in the FPS world |
