Okay, I used to get this bug regularly (every match or two), especially in the heat of battle, and as I was trying to move, change aim, etc. simultaneously.
Finally, at the suggestion of another member, I pulled out my old SIXAXIS controllers (pre-dualshock), and those have been working Flawlessly!
Switch back to the new Dualshock3 ... same symptoms.
To CCP: There must be some difference between how the two generate events, or how they are handled and that is where the problem lies.
To everyone else: If you've experienced the problem, switch to an old non-shaking controller and it the bug seems to disappear. |

I had the same problem with my controller. Getting a new one is one way to solve the problem.
I was able to fix my controller. (You have to go pretty deep into disassembly, but there is no special equipment needed.) ( http://www.ifixit.com/Device/DualShock_3 )( http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/31179/Why+does+my+controller+randomly+presses+buttons )
In my case the culprit was the ribbon cable inside that connects the buttons to the circuit board. (It was still connected, just causing noise that was interpreted as false button presses.)
There is only a piece of foam rubber supplying the force to maintain a connection (Instead of a proper connector). After resetting that connection, I no longer had the false button responses.
Hope that helps. |

Interesting, but odd that I don't experience it with either old SIXAXIS controller, which both newer Dualshock3s have the symptoms. Not doubting, but it seems like I must have gotten a bad batch or something.
I'm a bit confused about how far into the disassembly you had to go, and what you did to correct the issue. If you could elaborate, I'd appreciate it. :) |

The old sixaxis had an actual connector for the ribbon cable. It's much harder for it to become dislodged. ( http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3/SixAxis-and-Dual-Shock-3-teardown-and-rebuild-tutorials-56K/td-p/19716233 )
The DS3 uses a foam rubber piece to act as a spring to press the ribbon cable against the motherboard. After awhile that foam gets sort of a memory or dislodged that lets that ribbon cable get loose on the contacts. (Cheap design or Planned failure??)
Follow this procedure : http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+DualShock+3+Input+Board/3262/1
You'll see in step 11 just above the left stick. There's the motherboard connection. You can clean the contacts lightly with a swab and some rubbing alcohol. (Not too much those are carbon conductive paint and you dont want scrape them off just barely clean them. Same on ribbon side.)
Also take a look at the foam rubber on the opposite side of the connector in the plastic cage. If it looks crushed or pinched just put it in some hot water and squeeze it a few times to get it to come back to an expanded shape. The ribbon cable is barely connected to the plastic cage with some standoffs. (Be sure not to rip those eyelets on the ribbon cable!)
While it's apart it's also a good idea to clean out any gunk thats build up around the buttons. |

Infuriating isn't it? I've dubbed it the Windows Paperclip bug...
Janse danced left and right, desperately trying to throw his attacker's aim off long enough to find cover. As the sand around his feet exploded in geysers of dust, settling oddly quickly in the high gravity, he was amazed to find his dropsuit controls freeze... "You appear to be fighting for your life! Would you like me to order you a cab?" Intoned his suit's system chirpily. "NO! NO! You -ú*(*&-ú*&*("&-ú! Cancel vehicle requisition!" Screamed Janse in furious terror. "Command not recognised, would you like me to order off-map support?" "ARRGGHHHH! Cancel! Cancel! CANCEL!"
This really needs some urgent attention, guys .
EDIT
I should add - although I have a dualshock 3 active, I'm not using it at all during gameplay - this bug mamages to appear just fine when using a (Sony PS3) BT keyboard and USB mouse. |

Dual shock controller for me. Got two, happens with both. Is very rare for me though but once it starts it is stuck for the whole battle. Then everything's fine for the next battle! Weird! And possibly worth some compensation, SP? Suit blueprints? :D |

getting it every game, its killing me (pun intended) DS controller, I just bought a new one so will try that to see if it is hard ware specific, but with so many people seeing the issue, it has to be something code side as well |

I have this problem too. It comes and goes. It would happen during an entire match, and the next match would be fine. It happens to me when I press on the left stick to run quickly or when I try to move around with the left stick during a fire fight. It is really frustrating, especially when I have the other guy nearly depleted. I only have two wireless Dual Shock controllers and it happens with both. They work fine with all other games. |

Just to note this is still happening, perhaps not as regularly as it used to, but it's still costing me a steady trickle of clones.
Now, I bought a bunch of Aurum, and I think that anything you enjoy is worth paying for, so I fully understand and support the real-money transaction part of the game. I hope it is a success and makes CCP as much money as a project this ambitious should.
But, I would ask CCP to take a moment to think... If you are going to spend real money to take part in a game - given that you don't *have* to - you'd probably only do that if you felt it may make a difference - maybe improving the gameplay experience, or perhaps to buy some nice kit which allows your new character to fight in a meaningful way alongside your more experienced corpmates - certainly sooner than he'd otherwise be able to.
That's all fine by me. But am I really going to spend that money if I think it will make no difference at all? What if the main thing deciding my gameplay experience and combat efficiency is whether or not my controls freeze due to a window I never asked for popping up? Or the hits from my nice named assault rifle not being registered by the server because of network problems? Am I going to spend Aur on expendables?
No - I'm not. And I haven't.
Because, quite simple, I don't have to, and there's no tangible benefit in doing so.
I have bought BPOs, because then when I lose yet another clone to something stupid which was first reported 3 months ago, I don't have to say to myself "Great - there goes another 20p to bug XYZ." |

Welcome to a Beta. I'll agree to the point that this game has stayed pretty Beta feeling for a while now though, which could do some damage long term.
I'm going to contest that this bug is hardware related, as L1 functions as intended on my Dualshock in every other game I own except for this one (on occasion). |

Certainly not related to the Dualshock hardware. As I mentioned above, I'm using a Sony Bluetooth keyboard... |

This bug is caused primarily in close quarters combat, the worst time possible. It happens when the L3 button is pushed. The clone will either reload, jump, crouch, open deployment/player list/map window, or a combination of two or more.
This has been happening to me enough to know this is the cause & effect. May have to do with too much going on onscreen & game wigs out. Have had it happen ramdomly on large maps with lots going on, graphics wise. Has cost me more $ than I would care to share, not to mention what it does to your KDR.
Just tried a game of Ambush OMS & I couldn't get into a single firefight without this happening. Until fixed I will be lounging in MCC or testing out new toys in Skirmish, WAY away from battle. since there's no point in losing another 60+K fitting to this bug. Off to see how far I can jump a LAV. |
