This game is tied to Eve. Eve has one of the hardest learning curves of all games out there. So below ill give you some tips ive learned:
1) Specialize! Figure out what you want to play and specialize in it.
Want to be a sniper, train your sniper weapon up to 5, then start working on drop suits, Light weapon upgrades and the like, perhaps learn drop link and nanite ammo drops to put behind you so if you get sniped you can drop in on the same spot and have lots of ammo.
Just focus on what you want to do in the game. The worst thing you can do is try everything. It will only weaken you in the long run
2) Its worth noting to get the Merc Pack from the sony store. can't afford it? mow some lawns or ask some old folks to shovel the snow out of there driveway. Then Start your 30 day active bonus + spend 7k aur on passive skill booster both are worth it. As well, There are some decient Blue drop suites you dont have replinish, they cost about 12k Aur, remember your specializing, so sniper can use the scout suit as an example, buy the blue one and keep using it over and over.
3) Items in blue are permanent items. You dont have to keep buying them over and over. What i did was picked the route i wanted to take and bought some militia blueprint items at first. This will let you keep earning ISK and exp with little loss. After a while when you get some good xp and isk then you can upgrade.
4) There is no team in i. Unless your a sniper, bring friends, your chances of surviving dramitcally go up and the chance one of them is a medic is even higher. Nice to be revived so you can get back immediately and start making more isk and exp.
5) Dont forget to upgrade your skills that increase CPU and Powergrid, it will help you fit all those cool items and gives you more flexibility.
6) Want to have fun with some tanks/dropships. Buy the militia version in the market place under Militia. Can buy tanks or dropships and fit them out deciently, not great but deciently. This will give you a cheaper way of learning how to pilot one of these.
7) Only use what you can afford to lose. Dont always use your best fit every drop. Sometimes when its a hot drop zone, go with the militia fit and if you survive find one of those resupply centers and fit your better suit if you want.
Hope these help! |

specialise in the final release is a top tip. On my fourth build and have about 4.5 specialisations going on at the moment and you are not as effective. |

Doesn't the Merc pack come with a permanent scout suit in addition to the aurum and skill boost? Dragonfly or something I think.

Yep you get the "Dragonfly" Scout Suit which is pretty good until you can mow enough lawns to buy the better permanent suits.
If you get the Merc pack then you have enough AUR to skill up and buy the better suits. Improve your CPU using "Dimension" memory also if you can. |

Thanks for the information. The learning curve is pretty steep but I'm willing to take it on. |

There really is no learning curve in dust. Maybe that's why so many people are having trouble. You're going about it the wrong way.
Right now the game is simple. It might get complex later on, but it is not right now. There are clearly optimal choices for w/e you want to do, and you can choose to do them or not.
Other than that, you just shoot people in the face.
Or run them over. That's fun too, but you should have at least learned how to do it in Grand Theft Auto. What kind of music do you listen to? KGBH ftw. Or maybe you like to live high, live true, live zaibatsu?

As far as I'm aware right now, aren't the only permanent suits right now first level suits? Like the in the case of scout dropsuits, the Valor suit. I'm just looking at it in the market and it seems to be exactly the same as the Dragonfly in all the stats.
So at least concerning the scout suits, the dragonfly seems to be the best permanent suit you can get? |

It's pretty beast. Ya, there are other T1 AUR BPOs, but that's it (for now).
Dragonfly is beast because it's the good version for a scout. Type-II scout blows. For assault, type-I sucks and type-II is beast. Logi- type1 is sweet because it's more engineer logi type with more equip slots. Heavy suits are just MLT BPO suits so that doesn't matter. |

point #1 is the most important, i've seen some new players throw the points all over the place, make alts, throw more points around too thin, and then make even more alts to do more of the same, i'm like bro, you've been playing 2 months and none of your characters can even use adv lev 3 weapon...
set up an alt to just forget about and come back to that alt after a while and play with passive SP, this can be your experimental alt, the char you play around with SP, your main char you should focus your SP and spend carefully. also warm up on your alts that you don't care about their stats, and usually you warm up in lesser gear, that way you switch to your main, you've already warmed up with lesser gear on your alt.. some ppl dont need a warm up time but if you do then do it on your alt where your not stressing about KDR or isk..
then when you join a squad with your main you're not like, "uh this is my first game of the day" |

There is a learning curve, what are you talking about? You can't just put a suit together and jump in the battlefield now can you? You have to be mindful of certain things, like PG and CPU. Weapons purchased can be lost for careless actions; so yea there is a learning curve here. This "Oh I'm so good and it was just soooo easy for me to understand" should stop. The approach to Dust is different than the approach to Battlefield or COD. It's quite similar to Armored Core where education doesn't really come from the game like it does from you doing research.

There are free, BPO, completely outfitted FREE SUITS. So yes, you can just jump into battle. They are pretty good.
So I have no idea what you're talking about. Why don't you go play the game Mr. I HAVE 23 KILLS. And if it's alt, that makes me feel a lot better about taking your advice.
Seriously, I have no idea why players spend so much time reading forums and not playing the game. Yes, you do get "skill points" for not playing the game via passive SP, but there is no passive skill to improve your FPS skills. |

CCP needs to remove the passive SP gain so that people stop getting confused about how to get better. |

Also, if you buy the passive booster and apply it to an alt they get that passive boost even if you activate it on another pilot. So your main would get passive + passive boost and your alt would get just the passive boost. |
