So you might have picked up from the patch notes that Orbital Strikes using an EVE ship are now enabled for testing on SiSi. We are after players who are willing to be the first people outside of CCP to give it a go. There are a few requirements to setup:
- Only available for faction warfare corporation battles. - The EVE capauleer must be a member of a faction warfare militia (either the NPC corps or as a member of a player corp in the militia). - Each corporation battle takes place on a particular planet at a particular district, the EVE capsuleer will need to be in orbit above that location. - The EVE capsuleer connects to the district by clicking on it while the battle is underway. - Once you have earned enough warpoints for a normal warbarge strike AND there is a connected EVE capsuleer, a new option will appear in the off map support menu in DUST. - Call in the request for a strike as normal, the target will appear in EVE. - The EVE pilot can fire at the target provided they have a ship with small turrets and one of the tactical ammo variants (Tactical EMP S, Tactical Hybrid S, Tactical Laser S).
The ammo variants do different spreads / ranges / types of damage which we are interested in getting feedback on.
Details for connecting to Singularity with an EVE client are here:
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Singularity
Also keep in mind we do plan on opening this up to more battles, in particular we have some big plans for corporation battles in 2013 which will offer more opportunities for orbital strikes.
If you have any questions, just reply here and we can help you out.
Cheers-

I'll organise to get some ammo seeded. The blueprints should be there which you can build it from.
You can get some EVE friends to help but I'd ask if you can keep it off the forums and blogs etc. Its a weird feature with the NDA because its in both games, so lets keep it under wraps for now. |

First i need to clear up some details though. does the eve player need to be part of the corp calling in support? if not, how will an eve player be able to tell which team is calling in the support? can the eve player provide orbital support for both teams in the same battle? |

Tactical Hybrid S:
This highly specialized space to ground ammunition can penetrate the atmosphere of planets. It is only useful against ground targets and relies on special targeting data provided by ground troops.
The Hybrid strike has a radius double that of the tactical laser. This enables it to bombard more ground but combined with a slower fire interval than the laser there is a greater chance for targets to escape.
Tactical Laser S:
This highly specialized space to ground ammunition can penetrate the atmosphere of planets. It is only useful against ground targets and relies on special targeting data provided by ground troops.
The laser strike deals high damage in a tight radius at high speed. The tactical laser is devastating but its precise nature means it does not cover wide areas.
Tactical EMP S:
This highly specialized space to ground ammunition can penetrate the atmosphere of planets. It is only useful against ground targets and relies on special targeting data provided by ground troops.
The Electro Magnetic strike has the broadest radius of all small orbital strikes and wipes out the shields of anything unfortunate enough to come in to contact with it. For a team fitted primarily with armor this can provide a significant combat advantage in the heat of battle. |

Just had a game where we farmed warpoints like crazy, with two eve guys in orbit with small guns + bombardment ammo, but no joy. Both capsuleers were in our dust corp, but the only off map support I ever got was the warbarge strike. One guy saw a faint hexagon on the planet (but never clicked on it), and the other never saw anything special on the planet at all.
Would we have to enlist Subdreddit Gold in a faction militia? |

Would we have to enlist Subdreddit Gold in a faction militia? Yes, Nullarbor's post and the current lack of success in almost everyone who's tried would suggest that. I'm going to test this theory myself. |

Well, it's limited to FW only for now, to keep it manageable in testing. In the end we'll get it everywhere. |

The EVE capsuleer must be in a militia that matches the contract, however you can also be in an allied militia. For example a Caldari contract is available for both Caldari and Amarr pilots.
The exact location is not determined until the contract is accepted in Dust. |

It is for dust corporation battles which are scheduled ahead of time and show what district the battle will take place at. It is then up to the dust mercs and capsuleers to organise their pilots to get into position ahead of time.
Depending on which militia the contract is for, it will always be in one of their faction war zones which you can see on the in game map in EVE, or Dotlan has a great faction warfare map too. |

SI have tested it aswell and we made the following observations: EMP's= destroying shields only you can think of them like huge flux grenades hybrid= its like the old precision strike from the old build but with more firepower and larger area of effect Laser= small area effect but extreme devastating to vehicles. When your tank gets hit by that its over no matter what
So my opinion is only the hybrid and the laser strikes are usefull cause the emp doesnt kill any 1 in its area. Both strikes are capable to anihilate tanks. I tested it on a gunnlogi with over 6000HP on shields, 2 active 30% resistance going and a passive 10% resistance and it didnt even survived half of the shots that hit the ground. Another thing is eve pilots can be attacked any time during the match by other eve pilots. You will need more then just a crappy ship to bombard the battlefield. You will aswell need help in space to defend that ship. If you dont have Eve support you will have a big disadvantage in corp matches. |

There needs to be a way for Capsuleers to see when these battles are taking place, especially for Faction Warfare, outside of the corporation(s) that are taking place in that one particular battle.
Then again, Faction Warfare matches shouldn't be limited solely to corporations in Dust 514 in the first place. |

Glad to hear this is up. I'm not hugely keen on doing FW in EVE, hope that non-FW corp battles w/OBs will be implemented before the game launches. Don't like being limited in the places I can OB. I really want to hit the planets in my home system, Seyllin.
Also, I think EMP should have a lasting effect if all it does is wipe shields, like a lingering EM field.
edit: and why should a side get OB's only if they are doing well (gaining WP), there should be a timer/cool-down instead that is available regardless of how well someone is doing in Dust, otherwise the EVE-Dust connection is just flair and not really important.
edit 2: And from the EVE perspective, I don't like the idea of hanging around at a planet for God-knows-how-long and getting blueballs. I get that from war targets already... it's not going to be a fun idea of being the OB pilot in EVE if you can end up waiting in orbit through a whole match and not getting to pull the trigger. |

The thing is when this is live you will probably not just be sitting in orbit waiting to fire. You will end up fighting off opposing faction ships, pirates, etc.
The use of WPs is a balancing mechanic to prevent OB support from being an I-Win button. It gives you a tactical advantage, but it won't single handedly win you the game if the Dust mercs aren't pulling their weight on the ground. |

This is a good read for me. I alwaya wonder how these things work. I don't play EVE tho, but it's nice to learn. |

For all that want to fight at orbit.
There is limitation for grid here - 100km (instead of 300km) Around 100km from district satelite you can connect to district.
Fly here - cloak - and wait ;) |
