If anything, this should make us happy. Things like this will force CCP to push the bar further with DUST, and will hopefully encourage them to release DUST when it's good and ready. Watching that video, it doesn't look nearly as fun as DUST, just a lot shinier.
Shiny comes at the end, I'm just hoping CCP takes their time, and gives us a lot, and I mean a LOT, more modules |

In almost every review, the game is being run on a $2000 highly upgraded computer. Look at the specs and despair.

I have both. & I still prefer Dust over PS2. Everyone has their own preferences, & will enjoy different things. Some prefer vanilla over chocolate. Just because a game has prettier graphics & what not, doesn't make it more enjoyable. |

I know a pile of guys playing PS2, and I don't think there will be much crossover. Don't forget both dust and ps2 are backed by sony so they think both will work out.
Classic PC / console divide will be a factor as well. |

My PC cost me $800 a year ago, & I have no problems running PS2. I'm sure I could build a machine for $500 or even less & still run it. |

Who cares about maximum graphics. Dust can't even come close on that front. It's gameplay that really matters. Now... The big difference between Dust & Planetside is the way in which persistence is handled.
Without going too deep, planetside has no direction, or real point except to redline the enemy for as long as possible. I played it, and was not just lost, but had very little idea as to where anything was due to a tiny rubbish map.
In Dust? You win & lose. In a set timeframe or under certain conditions. It's far more structured in this regard, which is a good thing. Clan battles are pretty much impossible on Planetside. On Dust they're already easier to set up than any other ps3 game. |

Is that on the PS3? No? Interesting. Dust is aimed for console audiences. Not for PC gamers. There never will be a PC port. Dust will never compete with planet side directly. |

Performance is a definite issue, but it's a PC game so you can just turn settings down and it'll run fine on most systems. It just won't look so amazing. An unfortunate consequence of fights that involve hundreds of people and vehicles. |

was wondering why it looked weird x3 Dust514 has limitations so of course a PC game is going to trump it, but you also need to give the guys developing this game some credit in being nice enough to invite you here to help you, not aimed at you Isaa. this is to the OP,
Dust514 is not dead, Planetside2 has hit the main market, we haven't even hit the main market so we don't even know what this game is going to be like in its finished product. Be patient, all will come in time. |

You are saying that Planetside 2 being released on PC spells the death of a CONSOLE beta...

What's a "changre"?
"Genre," maybe? Or, perhaps some sort of weird portmanteau of "change" and "genre?"
Whatever. I know _I_ am not going to install M$ Windows on my machine to play a game that will cost me what, $50 or $60, when I can play in (and contribute feedback to) this awesome beta of a really interesting new game for free.
Planetside _does_ look pretty damn spiffy, this is true, but some of my favorite games have been somewhat lower-graphics than their peers. Gameplay is important, too. The GTA series and nethack come to mind. GTA's online play left something to be desired, but the sandbox play was a freaking blast. (at least the ones I've played... Wish I still had San Andreas now; suddenly want to go video-game skydiving) |

Not to take anything away from Planetside 2, it sure is smooth and pretty, but in the end, it's just another game.
DUST 514 is a real world with real wars, and the strategy, tactics and logistics required to rule in DUST will absolutely beggar anything Planetside 2 will demand of its players. Ever. |

it was never alone - there are numerous games it is competing against. And on console alone let alone PC. On all three platforms: Bungie's 'Destiny' is also coming. Competition can only be a good thing. |

No, this really isn't accurate at all. Dust, right now, is incredibly simplistic. The maps are simple, the strategy/tactics are simple. Planetside 2 requires far more tactics to be successful in a small-scale fight over a base than Dust, because there are many, many more options available to Planetside 2 players than Dust players, both in terms of classes and their abilities, and the vehicles you could see involved.
What's more, in terms of strategy, Planetside 2 even now sees inter-outfit operations involving hundreds of players coordinating their attacks in a campaign across a single continent. You have people managing platoons of infantry, columns of tanks, and fleets of aircraft. Dust corp battles involve 8 people working together. Once, they involved 16 people. Either way, minimal management required. Certainly a Planetside 2 platoon leader, leading 4 squads of 12 players for 48 players total, has a far more difficult job.
One day I hope Dust has all the great things it talks about come to fruition. But that day is at least a year off. What will Planetside 2 look like then? They're already talking about outfits building bases, and fighting each other over resources to build powerful weaponry. How much of an advantage will Dust have by the time its post-release nullsec update arrives? Can you seriously compare Dust, two years from now, to Planetside 2 right now? |

I Pla.2 hase the headstart and the advantage. It puts CCP in the "deliver position". Now it is harder to be the Si-Fi Shooter and the headstart allowed Pla.2 to work on tweeks and polish even more. The Day Dust514 will be released Pla.2 probably will be a "grown up" like WoW is "grown" up und stark kills a lot "WoW like mmos". People tend to go the way of "glitter and polishment".
Don't get me work, I hope that Dust514 will make a perfect start. I no longer have the time to play EVE as I would like. But Dust could be my "reimbursement" ;). |

What proof do you have to back this up, a couple hundred players fighting needs more coordination to work well than the handful we get in dust it's also more fun and makes the world more frantic and full
I wanted dust to work but the longer I see the way it's going the more i'm not so sure.
But then again ones on console the other P.C. so it will come down to what you prefer. |
