Just curious but does anybody actually use them? They seem very impractical given the charge time, the trouble of hitting a moving target up close and the fact you have to equip them first.
To be honest when I first tried them, I expected them to unlock the old melee animation, making my character pull out a knife instead of hitting with his elbow. Extra melee damage but not actually a weapon per-say.
In short. Do you think we could have the old Nova Knives back as a passive module or something? Perhaps rename the current ones incase anybody's a fan of them? |

Maybe just use the old animation for the attack if current fit has nova knives, but different weapon held. +1 I miss the old animation.
Switching weapon to knives would work the way it is now. Melee without knives fit to the dropsuit uses butt of gun, like current build.
Also, once the attachment/gunsmith/rigs are added, can we have a nova bayonet?

TL;DR
They are effective but only in the hands of dedicated pros (which is not that many) and if you have the prototype Ishukone nova knife due to its short 0.5 second charge time. |

Thing is at that range, a few bullets to the head or a single shotgun blast would do the same job faster. |

Does the knife insta kill if you hit them in the back? A kill animation from a back hit would be nice, preferably a toggle ability to swipe or cue the animation |

In that case, what the hell was the nova knife user doing standing in front of the opponent if he could've snuck in from behind? The Nova Knife is not meant to be used to go all in mindlessly. It's a weapon that takes planning and careful use. |

Mostly, yeah. But it becomes a two-hit kill weapon when confronting heavies. |

It's a weapon that takes planning and careful use. I think what he means is that you could have used exactly the same tactics with a gun instead of a nova knife and it would have been just as effective, if not more so. What's the advantage in using a nova knife?
I think this is a legitimate question. Is it purely for the challenge? Or does a nova-knifer really contribute to the battle in a unique and meaningful way? |

Goric,
It's for the challenge. Have you ever tried taking a knife into a gun fight? It's pretty damn hard. It's like seeing Riddick kill that one prison dude with a cup. Then he threatened the other dude with a can opener. |

Challenge is good enough for me.
how about this? Nova Knives can be used the way they are now but they also enable the old knifestab animation for guns. Perhaps on the knives themselfs as a weaker version of the charge. |

a charged attack to the back of a stationary opponent should be a one shot kill, there should be an animation of you stabbing them in the neck or something. |

I just wish they were cheaper, it's crazy how expensive such novel items are. |

They are a tad expensive for such a novelty but it always makes me chuckle when I see a few deaths pop up in the corner from Nova knives, I've tried my hand, died alot but gotten in a few kills, it's quite satisfying. It's also immensely hard because more often than not if you're not creeping up on a sniper they'll notice you and shoot you and unless you can dance really well for them to exhaust their main weapon, side arm, and toss any grenades along with watching out for Melee after you get in the first stab as you charge up for strike 2 then you'll most likely rage and stop trying. |

They're impractical, and a Shotgun does the same job more efficiently (in terms of both time and ISK).
I can consistently and reliably fire at least three shots with my Shotgun in the time it takes to charge and swing ONCE with Nova Knives. More if they don't have maxed-out skills reducing charge time. |

I would say nova knives are a patience-intensive weapon. Not skill intensive. |

And unless you get REALLY lucky REALLY often, you need to be good at stealth and positioning, and you need good situational awareness. All of which are ALSO skills. It's not about the usual FPS skillset, but that doesn't mean there's no skill involved. |
