One of the more interesting things to me about this whole discussion over iron sights on guns to improve "immersion" is that this is really one of the only arguments for their inclusion. By that logic, shouldn't boarding animations for vehicles have similar support?
I know I can't be the only person that has chased down an enemy player and dropped him into low armor only to have him tap Circle as a friendly HAV rolls by and disappear to safety, sometimes followed by a missile to the face (pre-nerf). Of, for another example, that person speeding around the map in a Militia LAV trying to run people over who hits Circle as soon as they miss you and one-shots you with a shotgun after popping out of a fast moving vehicle with none of its inertia, something that is now factored into drops from aircraft, I might add.
Animations for boarding vehicles not only lend themselves to greater immersion, they also lend themselves to better, more skillful gameplay with less ways to hold up people who can't hold their own without relying on such tactics. |

This is a good idea. I'd love to see boarding/embarking animations for vehicles.
I think the animations should also differ in length according to how difficult the position is to get to. This would usually match how strong that position is. An example of this would be a longer, more difficult animation for getting into an HAV's main turret but shorter ones for the secondary turrets. |

That would certainly make sense. I might also add that people jumping out of a moving vehicle should take some damage, depending on the velocity of the vehicle. |

good idea. it would stop the switching of driver to turret abuse.

Good point, I hadn't even thought to mention that. |

That could be amusing. It would cause a vehicle to hurtle out of control as the driver tries to climb to another seat while holding the streering wheel. |

Personally I don't see a reason why this would be a negative thing, add the option of aborting the entering or exiting so you aren't a sitting bunny for someone with an ar 30m away, though.
So yes I'm all for it :) |

actually a very good idea lol, it slows down the game play sadly but it is something that makes sense - it shouldn't take rediculously long, (2 seconds lav, 3 seconds hav/dropship) at most but those 2-3 seconds really make a difference. not only to offence but to the immersion too - it also stops (for the most part) silly seat switching. |

I like the idea too but i think that Dust has to be careful not to fall towards Eve like 'simulation. Keeping the FPS feel fluid.
Some times you need to bail from a moving vehicle and I wouldnt want to have to take off a seat belt first. |

Exactly. I don't think any of us want to see ridiculous start-up sequences like those mechs in Lost Planet 2.

Like Captain-Awesome was saying, there's no need to make the animation too long, and you would still be able to bail out of a vehicle, but not instantly and with no inertia maintained from the speed of the vehicle. |

As well, I'm sure we're all familiar with how some of our Heavy wearers use free LAVs as a means to jump into fights with their HMG by just bailing out without stopping. To be fair, you should really inherit the vehicle's inertia when doing this, and possibly even take damage from the bailout. |

This is because you hide on a hill :P
+1 for this suggestion, it's ridiculous how I can chase someone down, almost kill him and have him jump into a LAV instantly. |

I don't understand peoples obsession with Iron sights. They'd be nice but the emorage everyone is having is idiotic. Animations for changing seats and getting into or out of a vehicle is vital. |

Animations for getting into and out of vehicles would be great.
It would need to be balanced against developer resource cost to implement though. |

So yes I'm all for it :) As a matter of fact, why not have the user have to hold circle throughout the animation, and it cancels if they release? That way you can stop and defend yourself if someone starts shooting rather than just dying with your ass halfway out of your tank hatch. |

Why should they take damage from getting out of a vehicle thats in motion? Hell... Why do we take damage when we fall 10 ft?
Also.. It should take less animation time to get out of a LAV than if you are entering imo. |

Definitely like the idea of animation / time in which the player boarding has to spend time boarding and not firing off a turret or being able to drive right away.
To go along the same lines, a few people were talking about damage as you're exiting the vehicle in motion. Perhaps not allowing for damage, but instead a sliding / recovery type animation. If you're going as far as to enter the vehicle in a more realistic way, why not exit as well? If the suits are as powerful as they are, exiting at 60 miles per hour, your character would perhaps dig their feet and free hand into the ground to stop themselves. (This is just a random idea) For the sheer fact that the players *are* wearing suits, I am also against the damage for exiting moving vehicles (and against damage for falling only 10 feet, haha )
Good ideas! |
