Hey guys,
I was wondering: will we ever actually "see" EVE players in Dust, and visa versa, or will we only interact via voice/text chat and orbital strikes? Will we ever see EVE ships flying overhead or out the windows of the warbarge in real time, or loiter around communal lobbies with the avatars of other EVE and Dust players between games?
Just wondering what you guys think and know about this :) |

SOON? EVE players will be able to see active dust battles in districts that are active but I believe it will only be a graphical representation of it and not individual assets.

actualy, one of the long term plans for dust and eve is that when player owned establishments are in eve, that they would like dust and eve players to share the same space in a station |

Walking in stations isn't a thing that is very popular with EVE players in general. It's probable that eventually, yeah, there'll be stations where everyone can walk around together, but I suspect it'll be fairly bare-bones and you'll rarely see EVE players doing it. |

if I remember another SOONtm thing was ship assaults or some such
think about it you and your team are literally dropped onto an enemy ship or POS to take it over in a close quarters indoor firefight. |

EvE is slow paced, but if a ship is called primary it can die single volley of fire. Station sieges can last hours/days, so I think we will probably get station boarding, but not ship boarding. EvE player losing can also blow ship with self-destruct button and kill all the dust mercs on board, so a eve ship would be about as safe to enter as the redline.
CCP wants walking in stations, some players will use it and others will ignore it. Stations in eve can be camped for hours, when this happens you will probably see a lot of eve pilots wandering the station waiting for the campers to leave. |

Actually a lot do want it. But they want some of the major things that CCP hasn't tocuhed or messed with in years fixed. And they want it to be meaningful gameplay. Not like a second life hack game. But something solid. Which is why they were working on prototype stuff for WiS. Best so far they said was boarding sleeper sites by avatar. |

That's not all. CCP promised merchant shops in stations for Incarna back in 2011. But that got delayed for various reasons that are too deep to explain in a short post. Eve players who dedicate themselves towards being market tycoons would love to see something like this.
Would be rather interesting to a Dust merc raid a shop, though. |

A very vocal portion of the EVE community continues to rage about how we shouldn't have walking avatars in EVE. The one true game play related concept for avatars that did come up recently, exploration of abandoned sites by pilots on foot, was put on hold and the team disbanded.
I think pilots will remain hidden in their goo-filled pods for quite some time. |

I once heard claims that we would be able to see eve ships from the war barge if they were orbiting the same planet don't know if there's any truth to it but it sounds awesome. |

I'd love for them to implement this. It would be hard, but do-able. If there are ships over a planet it could translate their position to the dust servers, calculate where they would be, and relay that to the dust clients. If they make it lag by 15 seconds or so they could compress the data transfered into some mathematical approximations. We would be able to see flight patterns and battles in space. Hopefully we get the ability to zoom into space or something so we can see it.

For those of you who aren't aware, eve players have a captain's quarters which is almost identical to merc quarters for Dust players. They can walk around, sit on a couch and scratch their balls, browse the market, watch news on the tv, ect. It was introduced back in the Incarna Expansion which was going to be part of a much bigger project to allow players to physically meet each other in stations and socialize. Unfortunately it turned out be too much of an ambitious project and the Incarna expansion was met with a lot of (violent) protest for other reasons aswell.
I believe this question was brought up before and it was an option CCP had thought about but hadn't prioritized. On one hand I think it would be pretty neat for Dusters and Capsuleers to mingle, socialize, backstab, and recruit in the same open area. On the other hand It could turn these social areas into Jita local chat. Trust me you don't want that to happen. |
