Not sure if it's an official thing or not, but I'd love to be able to view my character in 360 degrees instead of 90 (Rear view <-> Right view) in the MQ and waiting lobbies.
And it's only my take on the matter, but I'd love to see my own character during gameplay. The MQ over-shoulder cam is perfect. |

I'd like the ability to check out the character outside of battles once/if customization becomes available.
There is the fitting screen hmmm...
But in battle naw. It wouldn't be a first person shooter then. |

Hmm... well there needs to be some way since we spend quite a fair amount of time building our dropsuits. And to say there will be future customization options, it's practically killing me not to be able to see myself. At least in MQ. |

I don't mind having a 360 view of my character in the lobbies or merc quarters. But in the battlefield, I prefer first-person view. Dust is a "first-person" shooter after all. |

This is for the Eve players: Once you have your avatar set up can you customize as you go along and is that reflected when you're outside of the capsule or ship?
I ask because if they did something like that in Eve what are chances it will happen in Dust as well? You guys know CCP better than those of us who've never played Eve. So... subject matter experts and such... |

Maybe the third person camera could be a deployable drone that hovers close behind you at a fixed distance? If its shot down you revert to 1st person. Could be a nifty solution, thats not game breaking! |

It's reflected only inside Captain's Quarters on station. Also on character portrait if the person decides to take a new pic. Otherwise it'll only show on avatar. So someones avatar can have a different hairstyle from portrait along with colors and clothing. And no idea if the character creator is coming or not. |

So a lot of customization then if your talking about hairstyles and clothes. That's cool. I'm assuming Captains Quarters are similar to Merc Quarters then? In CQ are you able to pan the camera around to see the entire character and the changes you've made? I assuming yes unless there is a separate menu/function to take the pics? My apologies for all the questions but it is thread related, I hope... And I think I read somewhere that higher levels of customization is in the works but I can't cite or link so take that for what it's worth... |

Eve players have the luxury of panning around their avatar. And yes they do have the same rooms except they have better rendering thanks to their carbon engine. |

I wouldn't call it that much better. Yeah, the vapor coming from the vents in my wall look nice. The screens blinking look nice. Even the couches are nice. Except for the minmatar one. It's like something someone took from a trash dump. Anyways, it still has it's issues. It adds nothing to gameplay. The lighting still needs adjusted. And the pod is still hanging out in the middle of the docking area. As for being able to see your ship. The closer you get to the docking area the further away it moves. |

All third person options need a jog function. Walking is too slow. |

I agree that movement in 3rd person should be upped a bit, and 360 view would be great. I would like the freedom to move the camera where I want and not feel constricted. I know it adds nothing to gameplay, but it would be a nice little luxury :-) |

EVE character creation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo9L8d-5x20
Captain's quarters = merc quarters, yeah.
You can pan around your character in the captain's quarters.
When you do character alterations (different clothes, hair, whatever) it's in a separate interface designed for customization. You can pan around and zoom in/out, as you see in the above video.
Dust may eventually get the EVE character creator. It would be weird to have Dust characters walking around in armor on stations. |

A third person camera mode would be outstanding.
Nothing makes me feel more involved and attached to the character I'm playing than seeing him react to situations.
In my opinion, third person cameras make me feel more immersed in a shooter than first person. In first person, there is a disconnect between the action on screen and the action in life.
It never feels like you're in the boots of your soldier in these first person games. The only games that felt immersive in first person are the killzone games, and the Metroid Prime games. In other games I just feel as if I'm controlling a pair of arms holding a rifle. SNOOOORE.
Even those games FELT third person in a weird manner. You felt as if you were the person. The game never tried to convince you that you were that person.
This game could really benefit from a legitimate third person camera. It controls great, at least. |

^This comment has all my respect.
Finally a thoughtful response. Though the reality of this actually being implemented is astutely grim, these are the reasons WHY third-person would be an optimal choice on the matter. All in all it's about convincing the devs the importance of our ideas, instead of criticizing them (quite actually) to death.
Though I can't help but feel I'm in the minority here. |
