Shotguns aren't overpowered.
Nova Knives are underpowered.
Also, ARs are OP, because they can kill me in seconds while I'm trying to get close enough to hit them with my Shotgun. Sniper Rifles are OP, because I can't even hit them with my AR at the range where they can one-shot me. SMGs are OP, because they can hurt me at mid-range and my Shotgun does nothing. Vehicles are OP, because not only are they able to hit me at long range, but even when I CAN get close enough, I can't one-shot them. |

Just to have a vague hope of scratching the paint on someone's armour, you have to cross through the ideal ranges of every other possible weapon except Nova Knives and SMGs. That's just for your shots to register as hits. If you want to be close enough to actually HURT the target, you need to pass through the SMG's preferred range as well, and for a two-shot with a Militia Shotgun, you almost have to be in range for Nova Knives.
Also, that two-shot isn't going to happen with a Militia Shotgun unless the A-Series guy is running a suit with no tanking modules, AND the Shotgunner is either EXTREMELY lucky with their spread or has a lot of SP tied up in Shotguns. |

You don't even -need- to dodge fire. The game forces you into close quarters so often that if your speed isn't enough in a scout suit, you can just wait for people to try and come so they can take an objective or whatever and butffuck them. Sure I won't get as many kills as I would using my Tar with OP range, but those kills are farming kills. I used to think heavies camping corners and objectives were the worst thing, now I can two shot them with a free suit and gun I have no SP in. The heavies that were being killed were A-Series and vk1's from Tritan Industries. All I ever see from them is tanked heavies, so I assume that's what they were using, but I can't say for certain what their fit was. I do know me and my corp mates shotguns with zero SP in it were two shotting them though, and they were defenseless because it was on C on the four point skirmish map. Lots of cover for a scout to force CQC. I'm not really sure where I'm going with all of this though. I don't have a suggestion to nerf the shotgun that wouldn't end up making it useless, but it feels so cheap at the moment. It was fun to use, so I guess that is good, but so lame to fight against lol. Some maps favour close quarters. Try using your "easy mode" CQC skills on Manus Peak and tell me how that works out for you. No camping, just rely on how the game always forces you into CQC range so you don't have to try.
You know if the game really always forced CQC on people, there wouldn't be any "snipers are OP" threads, right? Laser Rifles wouldn't be a threat, because people would never be visible in optimal range, and the complaints about infinite-range Missile Turrets would never have happened, because ARs would be out-ranging 90% of all combat anyway.
Also, corner-camping Heavies are a VERY different story from a competent Assault guarding the same objective. They're also VERY different from a sniper in a good overwatch position. Shotguns are pretty much a hard counter to non-Shotgunners aiming for CQC.
Also, from point-blank, with a lot of SP investment and a Militia Shotgun, a well-tanked Heavy will take 2 shots and still keep running. The third will usually drop them, but that's assuming you get a third shot. With no SP investment, even at point-blank, Shotgun damage is unreliable. Sometimes you'll get the majority of the blast on-target and deal full damage, sometimes you'll mostly have the blast impacting around the target instead of in their face. |
