When it comes to SP with the weekly cap, it just seems pointless to play for more than a day or 2. Most players know that the skill cap is about 500K skill points for the week and most players get that in a couple of days. There after gaining 500 SP with boosters after you go 25+ in a game makes it not worth spending time on the game.
My passive booster gets me about 1500 SP in a hour when playing 2 games of skimishes after one hour nets me 1000 SP. Why should I even bother?Skill caps I have realized is not the answer to this. Instead of skill caps we should have skill zones or zones based on the equipments one can use.
For example;-
High Sec Zone: Militia and Type 1,2 suits allowed. Vehicles that can be fielded will be only Tier one vehicles with max level 2 turrets. Mid Sec Zone: B Series and below. If noobs wanna get a taste of what its like to get pwned, they can join this zone. Tier 2 vehicles and Level 4 turrets Low Sec Zone: Bring your best **** out and rock it out with the real pros. Separate the boys from the men.
The only thing bringing me back to this game is playing with my buds. Otherwise its just pointless for me.

CCP has stated they would implement a daily cap in place of the weekly until they figure out a happy medium on how much sp one should receive while playing. I still prefer my (sp= wp x 10) idea. hell i'll settle for x5 |

Security levels are ... high / low / null ... and how they will be implemented in DUST is still unknown really, but high sec will be safer in some way for new players and null sec will be unrestricted. |

Daily caps are ********. You just hit 1/7th of a weekly cap in a day. If you can't play for a few days like most working folk, you're screwed. Weekly cap is perfect.
Its the diminishing returns that is the problem. CCP stated that they are going to revamp it. Also, look at my proposal for a fix. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=45279&find=unread |

I believe what they should do is rather than cap the people who play often, they should remove the cap and provide a benefit/boost to people who don't. |

I'm easily forgettable. Besides, if you're taking time to come teabag the corps of my character, then it's an open opportunity for someone else to kill you. |

The answer to your thread title is "not to grind", and that's why there's a SP limit. They don't want people playing for 10 hours a day and getting 40 million SP in a month, like they did in earlier beta builds. You should be playing because it's fun, and because you get ISK for doing so. Your idea doesn't seem to have been written with this in mind.
The issue isn't new players being outmatched by players with high SP, as the matchmaker takes SP into consideration when assembling teams. The issue is that they don't want people capping out their skills in a couple months. |

I agree with other posts on this topic.......
Basically if you dont use the entire cap for a day then it should be added to the next day.....and this continues until you have a set amount. IE if they set the daily cap to 250K and you can store 7 days of the daily cap then you would have a total cap after 7 days of not playing of 1,750,000. Now I also believe that they should not diminish your SP returns for the games you play. If you play well then you should be able to get 25K or more SP in one match it just means that you will hit your daily cap faster but you can continue to play and not earn SP just earn ISK once you have hit the cap. |

I agree in general with the idea to implement some limitation based on security status of a planet you are fighting for. I don't agree it should be meta level of items. I think it should be ISK gain. However that doesn't really matter.
What bothers me about so called grind is that it might be too necessary. As far as know, corp battles don't provide SP. 0.0 fights probably won't provide SP as well and 0.0 is meant as end game, as far as I understand. Therefore everyone, even those who don't want to fight in random battles, will need to do so. There will be no option to grind or not to grind.
At the moment we need to grind SP and ISK. In my opinion, it's too much. SP grind needs to be removed somehow. |

I think you touched one important point. The game should be fun to play even if you don't receive in-game currency of level your character. Progression system should be a bonus, not the main goal.
Once you reach a daily/weekly SP cap, the game should be interesting to play still. |

Care to tell me whats fun about playing this game? Hmmmm lemme guess;-
1. OP QQing and whining that has lead to nerfs of pretty much everything in this game before it has even gone live except for the QQing and whining. Whats more is even though there has been a nerf the prices of the related mods have not been nerfed 2. Landing up in games where blueberries are running around like headless chickens going 0-19 with no WPs 3. Instead of beta testing people using the same weapons over and over again without testing anything else. Who other than Re-Flex is using a carthun scrambler pistol? 4. ISK rewards being dimished over time. So that even if you go 25+ in your 7th game and get 130K ISK 5. SP being capped so that after day 1 you are pretty much getting 1K - 2K SP
You gotto be kidding me!
The only thing fun is playing with your corp mates. Geez I have gotten so bored with this game that after red lining dudes I do suicide runs deep into the red zone to kill them clowns.
Fun??? Seriously???

And another SP cap thread...... And another one that forgets one component, maybe the most important one..... Shared skills with EVE.
At the moment, it's only 3 skills. But over time it will grow in number for shared activities. And it has been stated many times by devs that both game can't have drastically different SP progression on those ! That's the point of the skill cap.
Now, saying the system is perfect atm would be as dumb as saying a cap isnt needed. What is really wrong with it ?
1) You get too quickly too very low SP income. 2) It may seem unrewarding for the biggest players. 3) It may seem unfair to latecomers.
Now, what is it good for ?
1) It allows a seemingly even progression between dust and EVE in SP 2) It allows people who can't do 24/7 gaming to not be blown away in a week.... 3) It avoids creating separate Skill area wich is not the point of a single shard universe !
How to fix it ?
1) Make the diminishing return more fluid. Lessen the SP earned at first so that you earn the cap on a longer period. => Takes away the "bored after 2 days" effect => Will make biggest player optimize the cap way more than regular player and thus feel a rewarding, even if not massive, difference.
FYI : I have overall 10% less SP at this point in-game than team mates who nailed the cap (more or less) every week. It's something like 400k SP in 2 month. And imo, it's way enough on a game like this one where there aint no respec, or veteran etc...
2) Add some kind of mechanics to make latecomers cap higher for a specific period. Nothing too big or it would be exploited in a way i'm sure.
This isnt an easy thing to fix. But if there's one part of the game in wich i trust CCP to do something good, it's that. |

Speaking of Weekly Cap VS Daily Cap,
Previously I saw weekly cap as a very very bad thing: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=349700#post349700
Now I gotta admit that I have REVERSED my opinion.
I prefer Weekly Cap now over daily. (pros) - you can have days off without stress - you can grind in 2-3 days and train alt characters which would be impossible otherwise (or wouldn't make sense to train) - Weekly system makes a active GAIN bonus booster work the way CCP supposedly intended it to help people who won't play every day. It makes it easier to reach cap in fewer time, while people who play every day on 1 char would get to save AUR. Yet, most hardcore ppl would buy 3x active booster for all alts in order to cap them all every week! (note: assuming boosters won't raise the cap) - It is actually interesting that the top tier players are all roughly on the same level, makes item vs counteritem race balanced (at least initially)
DISCLAIMER: As long as ppl won't hit less than 10 to 100 SP per game or something ridiculous like that
Event though (cons): - Some days are lacking the SP incentive - Having every player reset their skill cap the same day is a bit silly although it makes sure the community meets mostly at the same weekday
Gotta say, through testing wonders do happen... =P |
