So quite a few of my friends have been incessantly nagging me about posting some of my ideas on the forum. Well, I've finally caved and this post is hopefully the first of at least a few.
So, as we have all come to realise, the skill point (sp) system is just very annoying to anyone who wants to play longer than the typical three days to hit the weekly cap. Certainly it works for people who cannot play all the time and only on specific days of the week; but overall this weekly cap promotes people to stop playing after they hit the wall.
Now way back when, we had a nice daily system that would reset at down time, only issue was people playing day after day for every hour in those days would find themselves unlocking just about everything in the first few weeks. Of course I realize the sp rate of gain was nowhere near the adjusted level it holds now.
So on to my suggestion. I propose a daily system with a cap. This cap should be adjusted so that you don't reach it right away but quick enough to get the most of three to four hours play. Now here's the unique part: if you miss a day, the amount of sp you didn't use up towards the cap is shifted to the next day essentially raising the cap on that day. So for example say the cap was 100 a day, you earn 60 on day 1 so on day 2 your cap would be 140 since you had 40 leftover from day 1. Of course the rate of gain would need to scale along with the moving cap. Final point, the moving cap will only build up to seven days before resetting to day 1. It's a general weekly cap with daily caps that build up to it basically.
I feel it gives people the great feeling of making sp everyday and also the opportunity to catch up during a week. It still offers a good disparity but because it is still basically a weekly cap the general playerbase will stay on par with each other.
EDIT: Further clarification, this idea was based on assuming the 7th day would be the same day every week. However, I realise a great way to make the 7 day adjust to someone's play would be to have cap additions time out after seven days. So on the seventh day the extra cap from day 1 would "subtract" itself.
