Hello,
Just thought I'd provide some of my feedback. First I'll note, I played for the first real time today since I purchased the merc pack a couple months back.
My biggest concern: Difficulty. First, let me explain something. It's not at all to brag or show off, but when I play FPS, I'm almost always in the top of the leader board for each match. From Killzone 3, MAG, CoD, UT, etc this is the case so I'm fairly certain the feedback I'm providing below isn't related to my skill.
This game is notoriously difficult for beginners right now. I can unload full entire clips with my assault rifle on other players only to hardly drop their shields while a couple shots of their pistol are enough to take me out. After a round, I was killed about 20 times and only got a single kill. I tried different weapons, classes, and this seemed to be the case across the board with my starter gear.
I understand games like this might take some time to learn and all.. but after that match I was beyond frustrated and didn't feel like even playing again (I will because I see this games potential). I rarely get frustrated at games.. honestly but this was the least fun I've had in a long time simply because I was either running with my squad to try and capture a node or I was dead and waiting for a re-spawn.
The new tutorials (I think new?) are really an awesome step forward and I really liked them. I just fear too many people will skip them because it took me little over an hour from reading/watching tutorials to actually playing a match.
I really enjoy the graphics and overall design of the game so far. The amount of content is somewhat intimidating, but I was easily able to navigate around the menus and equip my gear.
Vehicle combat seems to be a lot of fun and is always one of my favorite aspects of FPS. I haven't yet gotten to try it due to 'rage quitting' after getting beat so bad.. but hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance.
Sorry for so much text. I hope this feedback was useful and I'll try and post my thoughts as I continue to struggle through a few more matches. |

Keep in mind the RPS aspect of DUST. Even if your opponents are using Militia gear they have a significant advantage in character skill at this point. The matchmaking system can't pair you with other beginners because there aren't any. It's going to take you some time to skill up enough to confront others one on one. Meanwhile get yourself into a group and it will help you survive.
There is quite a bit of helpful material in the Training Ground forum that will help you. |

Yeah I get ur point. In my main I don't have much of a problem killing people. But when I created my alt I was getting absolutely wrecked every game. It will pass with time. But I do think that there should be some kind of match making system that prevents proto users getting into matches with too many militia and standard users. It does get frustrating when u constantly get three hit killed by duvolles. Don't Nerf anything that's the way it should be. Just try and keep the teams even equipment wise. It won't be a problem at release though with hi, low, and null sec space |

This makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Keep up the good work CCP. I think you guys are doing a great job (and I'm not being sarcastic either). I have been playing for a little over a month now, and I have had nothing but the best time ever playing an FPS (outside of the original Halo on legendary) and this includes developing my character. Don't get discouraged CCP these noobs will eventually catch on that this game is trying to make other, more interesting things mater, as opposed to having the "thrill" of being at the top of the ladder boards be the singular, mind numbing, goal/reward for all of your effort and skill. I can't wait to invade my first null sec planet. :)) |

The biggest thing about DUST is that a new player will not really stand a chance against even a month old player. Within a month a player can easily get weaponry up to 5 (2% damage buff to all guns per level) mechanics to 5 (5% more armour per level) and the equivilent shield skill...
Within less than a day you could be against soldiers who are doing 10% more damage and have 25%more shields and 25% more armour, yet are in exactly the same gear. Within 5 days he's outranging you by 25% on the same guns and wearing massive shield extenders, further increasing his shields.
In DUST Character Skills > Gear > Player Skill. I mean don't get me wrong, player skill counts for a LOT. But it don't mean anything when your militia assault rifle simply can't get through a shield in a whole magazine.
My advice, OP, is to start leveling your core skills, like the ones listed above, get yourself out of the militia suits (Play today for the fancy BPOs!) and get at LEAST to GEK assault rifles. You'll find it's a more even playing field after that. But also don't let it dishearten you. When we go live, we'll have a working matchmaking system that'll prevent this. Or TRY to. |

I Feel the same way as the original poster. I also had the same experience as him. I also am usually really good a fps and can't do anything in this game. I was looking forward to this game since its announcement but i can barely make my self play it. Ill list out my issues.
Re buying equipment and figuring out what all the items do. I could see buying and item once even with real money and keeping it forever, but im not going to keep rebuying equipment and throwing it away every time i die. The item descriptions need to better show what they do and how they compare to others with graphs. It seems that the game is based off who pays more real money for upgrades and equipment because my guy dies way too quick and i cant kill anyone with that equipment. If this is the first taste new players get they are not going to invest in the game.
The game play is very bland. controls, sounds, visuals. I under stand that the graphics will have to suffer if there is alot of people playing on screen at once. But seeing little blurry avatars looking like they are running on a tread mill across some of the most bland terrain i have ever seen was laughable. The sound on the assault rifles are terrible. They sound like a sewing machine and not a rifle. The game just did not feel real or fun. |

New player experience is important, i hope PVE will help this by letting them level some without being killed by higher sp players.
The AR is not a rifle, so why would it sound like one? It fires plasma from a accelerator, there are no spiral rifle grooves. The only weapon that could be a actual rifle is the mass driver and swarm launcher(a rifle firing a rocket is possible). The sniper rifle is also clearly not rifled since the bore is rectangular. The ar is basically a ray-gun shaped and filling role of ar. |

I agree with the op about the frustration of being destroyed by the more experienced players. But I also understand that that is the nature of this game. If an individual pays out the ISK for the top of the line gear he takes the risk of losing tens of thousands of isk with every death. They should be able to deal out death and destruction. My suggestions are find some people to run with, get high ground dig in and defend, and find ways to support the team until you can afford the better gear and level up your skills. Taking on the upgraded heavy toe to toe with militia gear will always end badly. |

new players start with enough unallocated SP to max mechanics and prob weaponry off the bat tbh, after a couple games u can easily get the AR operation up to lvl 3 as well. Game isnt as hard as ppl think, u just have to be smart about ur play, scan suits and as a new player always assume someone is using alot better gear than u so dont try to outgun ppl in straight 1v1s too often
CCP needs to just make sure ppl SPECIALIZE and emphasize that, it does a decent enough job of it by showing u a limited skill list in available skills when u pick ur initial "role"

OP: yea it's frustrating to start at a disadvantage, but hang in there. Like it's been said, stick with your squad and try to get in on plenty of assists. Don't worry too much about KDR and leaderboards till you've built up some SP, gear, and isk so you can make a serious try at it.
Another thing, once DUST goes live with the full integration, people won't care so much about the KDR, Win/Loss is going to be where the people with the ISK to hire for major cntracts look. MVP isn't always the top killer - the guys capturing points, dropping uplinks, repairing vehicles, and standing their allies back up after they get knocked down are more important than the sniper or tank crew hiding in red zone the entire match. I've seen teams get out killed 10 to one still take the match. |

As a noob( applied to be a tester like 4 or 5 months ago finally got selected LOL last night was my first time)
So as a noob i find this game full of potential and fun, but when it comes down to it i got no beef with someone having better stuff then me,
1.im here to be a beta tester and help this game succeed to its full potential and debug- not be number one on the Leaderboards 2. I like a game where not everyone is the same- Experience, time and earning your stuff-giving a player and edge for his hardwork and dedication is a reward in a game. And I Like that kind of platform....perhaps to many people feel that like in real life they should all start out as manager instead of working their way to that place. 3. Its War all out War its not suppose to be equall or fair..im a dirty player i will run you over in my LAV Vehicle and then jump out and throw a grenade by it blow up my vehicle in the process and wounding or maybe killing another player.
Its Like Sparta with technology!!

You've never played EVE, now that's difficult to get into. I mean I was on my first mission to get the first spacship and like 4 guys just blasted me as soon as I left the dock.
and yeah it's hard to kill people but you learn that you need team work to get kills. can't lone wolf it. |
