Too often I see so much bitching about the game complaints about nerfing this and that.Player vs Player counts.Glitchy maps.Terrain bugs.Bugs in general.Trust me I too have been in matched where the frame rate drops thru the floor. The last build and the complete inability to play more than 1 match (if Lucky)with out the invalid bug.QQ'ing about Tanks.Various gear.Farming.lol cant forget about being able to throw Remote explosives.Cavity thukkers.Which Thukked your cavity.. Other various gimicky bullshit.Drop ship sniping.Redline sniping.OP sniper rifles. The CREO DRONE AR. AUR/versus ISK argument.ISK transfers on Si SI by EVE players.LAV spamming and running down people.Swarms and there stupidity.Firing Swarms at infantry.AV nade damage to infantry.VK0 hit point decrease.Missle turrets,Big and small.Strafing nerfs to scout...
Speculations. Can the PS3 handle the game. Can CCP handle the influx. When will the game be released. Will passive boosters be OP.Will it be pay 2 win or Free to play.Lots and lots of stuff.
But sitting here on the forums tonight got me thinking. That we have come along way at working on stuff.I do want this game to succeed I really do.I personally hold all the DEVS of this game and all CCP employees to provide and bring us the game that they said they would in interviews, and at there annual convention. They are working hard and I dont want them to stop and give up.I appreciate there efforts.I really do.Keep up the good work fellas. But this isnt a FAN BOI post its intent is not for that.I fully expect my post to be dissected and taken out of context by individuals with little or no reading comprehension.Alas I digress.
This is a thread about me being reflective and looking to the future at the big picture as I hope you the reader will too.We have all had to deal with massive changes to the game as far as nerfs. The farming by some that completely nullified the Logi class in pub matches. The fact that the 5 points dont work. There is a lot of work to be done.I cant say Im excited really.Thats not the sensation that I have. Its also not one of disappointment either.
Its this.....by the time beta testing is over and WE have worked out all the bugs. Those of us that stayed here...saw it through.Watched it grow. Will without a doubt in my mind.Be the most hardened, knowledgeable players in the game.We will be veterans of not 1 but many battles on many fields. Will have learned from our mistakes.I have played every class.Have learned its pros and cons. Its uses its faults.arranging my fits. When to go cheap. When not too. What will make me ISK,and spending to much...I already feel like a veteran.4 years from now when this game is on the PS4,and CCP is seeing revenue generated from it.We are fully integrated.Factional warfare.PVE.Nullsec DUST corps.Standing armies.1 million users.
I will be able to say to a newb when he belly aches about the difficulty of the game. Its complexity.I imagine my character standing on a warbarge looking out from the War room windows at a planet below.Half listening in a moment of reflection. My characters face.Marked from scars from a 1000 wars.Turning to him and saying."I was there at the beginning." "Nothing gambled, nothing gained". Putting on my helmet,(a rare salvage BPO or some no longer available for sale unobtainable past drop suit) and issuing the order."Prepare to disembark"
Though the game may hit ruff patches I will remain as committed to its success as CCP. I want to be there that day and remember this post.Remember my part in it.Because I was here, and so are you...be patient.Learn, watch, listen.

Amen to that brother OP. I liked the kinda nostalgic and relaxed tone of this. And there's nothing much to say about it really. Yes this is "hard work". Yes it isnt close to done yet. But hell is it interesting, exciting. And hell is the prospect of what it could become, what we could become in a video game exciting as well.

I completly agree OP, to standing around a store buying a game or something and the guy's infront of you talking about "hey you ever hear of a game called DUST 514? It just came out" And at that moment you could stand their vasting in glory because you know everything they dont, and get to enlighten them on how epic the game is...or you could again stand their vasting in glore because you know everything they dont....and say nothing except "know it? i was there"
This is a game that we all could be playing for years to come because of its always changing enviroments, players, and battles. |

I was there.
With the experience and knowledge we gain from all this hassle, the bugs, the lag, the glitches, the imbalanced mechanics, all of which ultimately will be sorted out and fixed before release followed by iterations and expansions thereafter, we will all stand there waiting in line at Play-n-Trade for our copy of [insert some other game here] while the folks in line talk about this awesome new MMOFPS called Dust 514. All while you, the silent beta tester, carry critical knowledge that can put you ahead of the pack.
Who knows? Maybe one day those guys waiting in line at Play-n-Trade or Gamestop or Best Buy might one day become a member of your corp as you prepare for a future of absolute conquest and finally making a dent on the power blocs of Eve Online.
Then there is the fact that one day these players could potentially be your voters if the Eve CSM finally opens a seat or two for Dust candidates. Seats that carry influence in determining the direction of Dust development while your directors work the political negotiations with your enemies. The ultimate metagame. |

ARRGGG ONWARD IN THE DUST, BENEATH THE BEHEMOTHS, THE WARRIORS ARRIVE, IN ARMS TO FIGHT THE DRONE SWARM! CANNONS AND VOLLEYS, IN TO THE FOLLY, PREPARE THE STRIKES, FOR DEATH CAN BE UNDONE. WE WILL RETURN BETTER AND BRAND NEW, FOR WE ARE IMMORTAL, OUR GOAL IS SREW. WE FIGHT UNTIL DEATH, BUT A QUEST WE'LL NEVER COMPLETE. BEFORE WE BLINK, WE ARE GUNNING WITH THE DISHES FROM OUR FELLOW KITCHEN SINK. BULLETS FLINGING EVERYWHERE, WE PRAY THEY WILL SEEK. And at the end of the battle, This is the song we will sing.

Necandi Brasil wrote:+1 ... I'm just really concerned that people are leaving the game ...
Those who are leaving the beta at this stage of development are the ones who stand to lose the most. They won't know what has changed or improved as they allow themselves to be ignorant of what's happening. They won't know what to do when the game finally does come out into the public because everything they knew then will have been completely changed by that time. Eve players are already gearing up to Dust 514 and thus ready to establish permanent power blocs in Dust so that new players can benefit from the experience of those who stuck with Dust's development till the very end while those who gave up during the beta will have to start all over again in terms of understanding the game.
Therefore, I do not feel any concern about people leaving the game at this stage of development. That just means the scrubs are leaving while the dedicated few remain to make Dust 514 better. Eve Online has experienced the same thing when it was first born. Because of the hostile culture of Eve, most MMO players wouldn't touch Eve Online with a 39 1/2 foot pole because they are use to the carebear culture of themepark MMOs like World of Warcraft and Second Life. As a result, Eve was left with the dedicated few who enjoyed the hostile nature and because of this nature Eve Online grew to have the most sophisticated and dynamic gaming experience in existence. A strong economy driven only by the players, a no-rules culture that allows creativity to expand, and a community that not only works together regardless of player differences but also supports a player-elected Council that enables players to influence the progressive development of Eve. Imagine this kind of progress for Dust.
Now, it will take a long time and I understand many players out there just don't have the patience so wait and see. But their impatience is none of my concern either. If they expect everything to work 100% on day one in an MMO that is suppose to take years to flourish, they are in for a reality check and that is their problem not mines.
Again, their loss for leaving so soon. |
