The MMO will come when we get our immersion elemtns, Faction warfare, and we will be getting larger maps. The 'Districts' for Warfare are 25 times the size of what we're currently fighting on (roughly measured).

As soon as battles affect the universe outside the battlefield it will be an MMO. The initial stage of this will probably be Dust battles impacting occupancy in Faction Warfare systems, but there's a lot more to come after that. |

Unfortunetly, the society around Beta testing is that the Beta is actually a dolled up pre-release 'beta' that doesn't often require polishing.
People get into the Beta and expect to see the 'finished' product, and not a work in progress. |

That is true Black, however, most people also normally only get into the Open Beta. This is a rather wide Closed Beta group compared to other games I have tested. That could be why people are so put off by the game so far, they are not used to seeing such a raw product. For instance, when I first tested WoW it was the most horrid game I had ever played as far as the gameplay was concerned. That turned into the best selling MMO of all time. I think that having that perspective would help people see that this isn't what they normally get when they get into a Beta, these people are the lucky ones that actually get to make a difference in the actual game.
To the OP, the MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online, yes, you knew that, just making sure someone reading your post does too as well. The Massively will come when the game is released to the general public. To compare a Beta test to a released game is just crazy. |

Massively Multiplayer is what its all about.
and in the beta, this is missing. the game is smaller scale than MAG, which isnt even considered a MMOFPS at all. Ever Resistance 2 has larger multiplayer and thats not considered a MMO. Hey even BF3 has larger multiplayer and thats not a MMO at all.
The popularity isnt what I am talking about.
I am talking about the amount of players playing on a single map at a time.
compare Dust's gameplay to Planetside 2. Now PS2 is a real MMOFPS. Notice how it has a game world players can move around in. Not just a bunch of small scale instanced CoD maps, like Dust have.
I dont see the MMO in Dust. Its just a Sci Fi MAG with lesser people per map.
Seeing what they have in beta, I dont see how this will change at all without a total revamp to the game.
this game calls itself a MMO yet it cant handle more than 48 players at a time.
lol. MAG has 64 players per map... Resistance 2 has 64 players per map,,, BF3 has 64 players per map.
non of those are MMO yet they have more larger player cap than Dust.
Dust is only living off the EvE IP. its not a MMO at all it seem. Only a CoD game with EvE IP attached to it.
disappointed.
Maybe the developers CCP should have waited for the PS4 to come out to release this, since it has larger specs, and could likely handle a real deal MMOFPS like Planetside 2, which seems more like what Dust should have been, since its calling itself a MMOFPS. |

When I played the Planetside 2 Beta there were not hundreds of people crawling around each faciality, or even one for that matter.
There were 20 people running around capping points and TESTING the game. I'm sure planetside has improved since. |

Whenever I hear the phrase "its a beta its not finished" it always makes me laff a little and think of the Farscape episode that tomorrow was always a rest day but it never was.
To the original poster, I do not think this game will be a MMOFPS. Im mad about it, your mad about it seems, and some other MAG players are mad about as well. Even with the districts implemented it wont be what your were looking for. I don't think the development teams understands the importance of it and I don't think the RPG player base wants it. |

Can you describe what you mean by "MMOFPS" then, and why you think Dust won't be it?
Do you simply mean hundreds of players in a single battle?

Idiots. Planet side 2 is on a PC. Battlefield 3 with 64 players is on a PC.
MMO comes from the constantly evolving world, customization, and massiveness that will be coming. It's not just player count. MAG was also crap. |

To explain again why would be beating a dead horse. Everything has been said multiple times over and over again on multiple threads. The fact that everyday this type of thread is started and basically everyone is tired waiting for the next build for hope reasons alone should sound a alarm that something is majorly wrong. Also truly you don't want to know why anyways, Zion never does, they just want to try to analyze everything you wrote for one small hole and exploit that to discredit everything you have said. |

It absolutely is player count that makes an MMOG. Dust isn't massively multiplayer. It's the World of Tanks of PS3 FPS games. It's a persistent multiplayer shooter, but it will never be massively multiplayer. |

MMO will come after CCP:
- Gets the core mechanics right and polished. And the netcode.
- Adds in the rest of the cool stuff and toys. Plus takes care of all those features that say SOONGäó.
- Expands the squad and team support - we've only got a fraction of what they're going to implement.
- Moves us to the Tranquility server and opens up the beta - stress testing needs to run for a while to collect good data.
- Satisfies themselves that the regional battleservers are doing their jobs properly.
- Thoroughly tests Corp Contracts in Factional Warfare.
- Adds whatever gamemodes they're holding out on us.
- Satisfies Dr. Eyjolfur Gudmundsson and crew that EVE + DUST isn't going to orbital strike the market.
- Do a final optimization of the DUST client. Maybe the server(s) too, dunno.
Then, I'm thinking, we'll prolly see the match sizes increase. The order of my points is almost certainly wrong, and fer sure there's things missing, and it's all guesswork to begin with. But it's the way I'd bet, if we were betting about it. |

I love the observation, Maken Tosch. Reality is a beta test. Might get a t-shirt made lol
Kinda in the same vein, and a great piece of writing, is Neal Stephenson's 'In the Beginning was the Command Line'.
Here it is: http://garote.bdmonkeys.net/commandline/index.html
Stephenson does this thing where what he was writing about is not what he was writing about, and he likes to pull the rug out from under you in the middle of a sentence. It really pisses me off when he catches me with his little trick, but in a good way. The man is one smart cookie and a helluva writer.

lol, no.
Your idea of a single map is very narrow. Imagine 3000 planets. Divide those planets into about 25 districts. Now divide those districts into 25 battles. That's how many battles will effectively occur at the same time. If you've ever played EvE, you would know. Unfortunately, before we can even IMAGINE testing the scale, we must first test the core functions and such. You're not going to see the MMO take effect until we get the FPS out of the way.
A single map? Ha, that's not what'll be running on full release. Imagine a full universe. Also, before you can even populate the planets with districts, you gotta first make maps for the districts. You're looking at this the wrong way. Look from the bottom up, not the top down.

I was hopin' for a thread like this, but it seems to be driven by someone fueled by other MMO's.
How many times does"CLOSED BETA" need to be said before it starts to hit people that it's an unfinished game. It's also on half the threads on this forum that not even HALF of this games content is available for us to test yet.
Really, I agree with OP, this isn't an MMO. But it wasn't suppose to be. We're here to test game mechanics for the actual battle system. The MMO side of the game will probably start to get released when this games goes Open Beta. When that time comes this thread will make more sense, for now it's just the OP being disappointed that he defined Beta wrong xD |
