as the thread says this is just a thought in one of the vids for dust 514 it says that the mercs in dust are the most elite killers in the galaxy with the most advanced armor shields and weapons correct so what I'm thinking is to make each tier above the one below it much more powerful take the militia gear for example : guns I can only assume are used my regular humans but are still powerful enough to take down a merc pretty easily when the merc is using militia gear themselves but what if the merc who got killed upgrades his armor and shields to tier 2 making him take 50% less damage to the militia gear (25% for each) these new adds to his suite makes him take less damage from weapons and equipment below their level making that merc with militia assault rifle while still able to kill the other merc job a lot harder due to the fact he is using a normal gun against someone who has better gear then he dose.
not making militia items worse per say but making sure that someone who spent sp getting the beginning of 'the height of killing technology' aren't unfathomably messed up by something that if I am correct the standard military use if I am not incorrect about this
this could be a way to make the mercs that buy the gear another class then those below them to take less damage bringing a more 'mmo' feel to the game that to be perfectly honest at this point feels only like an fps rather then an fpsmmo hybrid.
for example: enhanced shield +66 shield hp
-25% damage taken vs tier one weapons
-50%damage taken vs militia
this applys to everything from snipers to tanks
the mercs with a certain number of sp would also not be able to join matches against lower 'level' players in low sec on their own unless they are at war however an ignorant lower player can join a match filled with higher 'level' players in high sec
Why you ask?
to those who played eve did you ever feel like you were unstoppable after your starting missions?after taking out hundreds of pirates you think you're ready for the infamous 'null sec' that everyone talks about you've killed everything that's been thrown at you with ease correct.
then you get there try to fight something and realize you've made a foolish mistake and I'll leave it at that.
the weapons however would not do extra damage to the lower end dropsuits this way while technically not doing anymore damage then what you have equipped then what you would actually be dishing out to someone who was at your level note that the merc taking said punishment would have no damage reduction and less hp then you would still bringing the advantage to the higher level player.
full damage would also be taken by suits with equal level to your own weapon
as the thread says this is just a thought a way to bring more 'mmo' to the game it is in no way perfect and just something I wanted to put down on 'paper' and now that I'm looking at it the decrease in damage is way to high but it's late and I'll change that later.
as always ideas and thoughts are wanted my fellow dusters |

To be honest this just feels too much like leveling up to me. I like that the current higher level gear is better, but not unbeatably better than its lower tier look alikes. The kind of system your are asking for would just make it so players with more SP and ISK would be truly untouchable by new players thus exacerbating an issue the game already faces. |

Percentage edited slightly but yeah -5%dammage taken from items below you per level of shield/armor stackableSinboto Simmons wrote:as the thread says this is just a thought in one of the vids for dust 514 it says that the mercs in dust are the most elite killers in the galaxy with the most advanced armor shields and weapons correct so what I'm thinking is to make each tier above the one below it much more powerful take the militia gear for example : guns I can only assume are used my regular humans but are still powerful enough to take down a merc pretty easily when the merc is using militia gear themselves but what if the merc who got killed upgrades his armor and shields to tier 2 making him take 20% less damage to the militia gear (10% for each) these new adds to his suite makes him take less damage from weapons and equipment below their level making that merc with militia assault rifle while still able to kill the other merc job a lot harder due to the fact he is using a normal gun against someone who has better gear then he dose.

I already feel like a "super warrior".
I can take several hits from a heavy machinegun with no impact on my ability to maneuver back into cover. Once in cover I can recover back to 100% health, as if I had never been shot at all. If the HMG did manage to "kill" me then I can be revived with a simple injection back to 80% "health" and 100% combat effectiveness, and have the other 20% health repaired as well. Even if I don't get revived and actually do die I can be back in the battle within 30 seconds.
If you were to shoot a regular, mortal, militia soldier with an HMG I think the outcome would be somewhat different |

If you upgrade from a Militia suit to a Standard one, you usually get an extra high slot, and you always get more PG/CPU to play with. If you upgrade to higher-quality Shield Extenders or Armour Plates (available because you have more PG/CPU to play with), you can take more damage, thus reducing the effectiveness of those Militia weapons - AND the effectiveness of non-Militia weapons at the same time.
If you're also bringing a high-tier weapon, that means you deal more damage than Mr. Militia Guy, so his (weaker) armour and shields will effectively provide even less protection than normal against your weapon.
Why do you need to stack an additional bonus on top of that? Seems like a redundant suggestion to me. |
