I would start out as assault to play it safe, then experiment from there. Don't forget to skill, around three levels at least, into light weapons sharpshooter |

Assault is a safe bet, honestly. Can do any role nicely and the assault suit has the widest range of fitting options. I'd recommend moving over to Amaar suits and learning HMGs once you get a little cash under your belt (Hard not to go with a positive K\D in a heavy suit, which normally I would tell people off for, but newbros need cash and SP!) From there I'd STRONGLY recommend either HAVs or Dropships for the event coming.
Each weapon skill you use should be taken to a MINIMUM of 3, and get Rapid Reload as _SOON_ as possible, then go for Sharpshooter for your chosen weapon. I don't recommend getting Sharpshooter first, as handy as the extra range is, the mega reload time will cause many-a-death until you're doing nice damage.
That and it's always good to have that kind of heavy power on hard. Oh and be careful where you go on the forums. Some crazy people live here. |

Assault is the most entertaining. Logi is good too but currently you get no SP for Remote repair. Vehicles are always winning but I expect sever changes to them in the near future. |

If you are going to run assault, I would suggest getting AV nades to ward off some of those pesky LAVs. Also, I think the training room area of the Forums may some useful stuff for you. |

Be a scrub, spec into vehicles only from the start.
* seriously though, if you want to have real fun, go with the infantry vs infantry field and rock an assault with shield suits |

There are basically three roles in DUST right now
1. Infantry vs Infantry -Cap objectives -Kill AV players Aka does the real work
2. AV ( Anti Vehicle ) -Kills tanks -Dropships
3. Vehicles - Kill infantry -Holding down objectives
I would go with # 3 because CCP just loves their vehicles. However, if you want to take the cool path I suggest Infantry vs Infantry...get your hands dirty so to speak
Here is a link to the new player need help channel
Training grounds I sure you could find something useful
However, If you want some verbal advice then just post your PSN / DUST name and I'll be happy to give some tips and starter builds |

Just spec into the LAV, tank it out and run proto gear wearing people over. This game rad, just like Carmageddon... only without the cows.

There are several pre-made Assault "Starter Fits" that give you a decent variety of toys to play with.
If you got the Merc Pack, you got a handful of AUR. I'd recommend buying some of the basic Militia BPO weapons and modules in the marketplace (BPOs are the ones with a blue square around their picture/symbol). If you equip a BPO onto an existing fitting (or create a new fitting for it), you'll have no restrictions on that item, and no need to restock it.
If you can pick up the Militia Drop Uplink BPO, you can use that in conjunction with the "Assault - Triage" Starter Fit. Replace the main weapon with the Toxin SMG. Having an Uplink deployed in a safe location can be a game-changer, and often results in a LOT of bonus points when your teammates spawn on it. You can also make a decent free Uplink loadout with the Dragonfly suit, and the extra speed means you can get around the map to plant it a bit easier.
Until you build up your Engineering and Electronics skills (skill point skills, not actual player skill), you won't be able to fit any good weapons into a loadout like that one, but it's good when you come into a game and it looks like your team needs it. |

^^^^ This, I still use BPO items all the time. I just went ahead and bought every BPO item made and still had 39K aurom to play with, this also give you a lot to play with to help you decide what path you want to take.
I always first of all put Weaponary to level 5, this increases damage on all hand held weapons.
PS Welcome to the world of Dust 514 !!! Do not get discourage at the beginning because you may die a lot once you start getting more points into skills it get easier. |

Also put at least something towards Mechanics if you can - it gives you an armour buff, which isn't as big a deal as your damage output, but it helps a lot. Especially against snipers (until they learn to headshot consistently... which they won't). |

I recommend trying out all the weapons whenever you can to see what works for you, though that might require a lot of skill books to buy and leveling up those skills... too bad there isn't a militia variant with no prerequisites for all guns for the sake of testing things out. |

The merc pack BPOs are pretty OP. Saves you a ton of isk on your scout suits.. Even more if you got the MAG pack. I have a nearly free fitting thats still better than what most people field. |

first things to go. get weaponry up to 5 and light weapon sharp shoot to 3 and carry packed AV nades for LAV's that are driving round like crasy at the moment. after you got all that you should have a fair idea which direction you want to go :).
there are no really classes per-say more gear you happen to carry with you most the time and your preferred method of dealing death. so just take your time and see what works and what doesn't |
