Eve Online has a ctrl-alt-shift-M shortcut that opens a "monitor" showing various system metrics. It is a (arguably) mature and stable game, years after its initial release.
Dust 514 doesn't have this monitor. It is in beta test where the primary objective of letting people play the game is to debug and balance it.
Please give us some tools to let us supply you (devs) with more information when we find issues.
I realise that we'll probably find ways to misuse or misunderstand it, and some of us will presumably find ways to cheat with it. However, you trust the Eve players with these things and they are the most devious conniving gamers on the planet. |

Mazu Ten wrote:What good would us having this tool do, though? I imagine this information (or any information such a tool would give) is already being collected and analyzed automatically. If that system works well (or acceptably) for the dev team when finding stuff that's going wrong (as I imagine it does), wouldn't giving players access to it just start fires that they'd have to put out? Yep, there's a risk that we the players will cause trouble with it somehow. But as I said in the OP, they trust Eve players with this, so why not Dust beta testers?
My guess would be that this info isn't currently captured, because the automated analysis that you mention is very difficult to create, and without it the devs would simply have an ocean of data to drown in.
Adding the stats to the client and somewhere to record them in a bug report template has two advantages: it puts some of the overhead of data gathering onto people with an active interest in doing so (because they have a problem they want solving), and it distributes that overhead over a much larger number of people. |

This post... https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=361840
talks about a client-side memory leak causing problems. A monitor would let us spot this kind of stuff quicker. |
