I'm sorry, I've got to ignore the 5 pages of absolute gullible posts to say:
Dark Cloud.... do you even know what DoS means? I mean really?
because if you did you would know that Denial of Service is produced by making fast concurrent connection requests to the victim in question.
our victim in question would have to be the CCP servers..... I emphasise this because you (and everyone else who has posted here -_- ) should know that we all share the same battle server -_-
as a result, DoS'ing the server will not bring the game down for one, it would bring it down for everyone. Not only that but CCP get flagged when bogus connections from UNCERTIFIED NON SONY connections are made. seriously how stupid could this thread be? this isn't halo or the microsoft experience where we are the host. Bridging, router dos'ing.... it's all irrelevant here.
Seriously dumb thread. |

Seriously dumb thread. Seriously dumb post. You can spam players with PSN messages to cause them to lag. Thats the only DoS I've heard of. Been victim to it before on MAG like I say. If you don't know what you are on about, shhh.
I call BS. Not only do playstation messages get sent through a secure connection, but there is no way a PC can send players messages directly to a console while circumventing PSN, which in itself has a delay to send messages to stop itself from being DoS'd. Send me a link, proof that this has happened.
not only that but common logic would dictate that this form of DoS would be applicable to ALL games, something Sony would take very seriously, which is easily preventable. |

This is the same Sony we are talking about that got its network hacked and was down for months? Geez my Sony's must be mixed up. Oh and BTW Dust has its own servers. Dust is the only game that is not hosted on Sony servers and instead is hosted on CCP servers. Thats the information I have but I could be wrong . Edit: PS: Any company that has a public facing website or server can be a target of a DOS attack. As a person that has worked with IT security and that has been audited by BS 7799 and SOX, I can tell you it is really easy to perpertrate a DOS on any public facing website/server. All ya need to do is figure out the IP address.
this is my point, attacking the mainframe would affect all parties not just one or 2. and yes they've been hacked, but it wasn't for taking advantage of a game :p
yes read my post above I'm the guy that used that as my arguement. I don't need reminding to what I said, you and I are both right.
yes I know how DoS works. I've done it and worked against it both professionaly and casually :p again I don't need reminding what I said. |

Well if you worked with DoS and DoS based security you will also know that DoS can be targeted at specific ports. Now assuming each client has its own specific port, it would be easier to identify whcih port contains which information. You can target individual people using that. There are other ways to reduce a persons network time. All you need to is use the concept of mass mailing the same person. That causes a server overload which slows down the ping time between a client and server and hence the term "lag". Remember Nimda or Code Red?
a lot of assumption for a beta tournament :p even if clients have their own port, you need to send your requests through CCP's servers to the client, unless you know how to obtain their IP from sony so you can bypass their servers all of which sounds very unlikely.

Sha Kharn Clone wrote:Nerd talk but why would you need to get thier IP from sony ? Cant you get peeps IP's other ways ?
only by interacting with them, and in this case the only method of interaction is via sony and CCP, unless you add them to your friends list which only bypasses CCP servers, you still need to get past sony servers and hope that they accept the friend request.... and I suspect if you want the ip you need to setup some form of streaming like a voice / video chat.... |

/me looks at OP.... I'm not trolling I'm speaking fact. you Dark are the one who claims your "agents" (fat guys who sit on a couch) have magically uncovered (read created) information regarding potential DoSing....
I mean come on this is getting silly now, it's derailed from potentially weak debate to accusations unfit for parliament.
I swear the guys in imperfects love PR. hated because that's all the crappy corps can do. Hate that they keep getting red lined and can't back the words up.
Mmmmm I can still smell the victory champaign on my *******.
P.S I got my money on SI so then they can finally get some balls and be forced to play us in a corp match. Shame it takes a tournament to get you to fight us but it's hard when all you can do is spam vehicles eh? |

I've been around for quiet a while now, it's easy to see Imperfects are a bit hot headed about themselves and what they've achieved in corp battles, but I don't see them personally attacking, insulting, or demoralizing any corps just for the hell of it. Quiet of few of them actually have shown good sportsmanship. It's just those few bad eggs we call trolls that give them a bad image, but even they are friendly.
you should join a match with regnum - I can't take that guy seriously. |

And these guys should stop claiming stuff like having better gungame or teamwork if they havent played against us. Just imagine how their comments can backfire when they loose.
I hope people don't think I'm one of the guys that's pissed, I'm just stating facts ^_^ OP was very unrealistic and plain silly. Problem is the unknowing always fall for it :p
"imperfects" didn't jump in this thread, I just came here because I like to set things straight. |
