The electromagnetic tether that the RVD use to hold onto Vehicles could be an attachment for the Drop Ship.
Naturally the added weight of a HAV woud force the drop ship to suffer mobility loss though not as much for LAV's.
turrets and seats on lifted vehicle can be manned but should be unusable in flight to prevent abuse (nothing like a flying 5 headed monster to make the keyboard warriors on the Forums QQ).
Drivers on the ground should have an opted out button with a cool down timer to prevent malicious uses of this tool.
"But Reset, this would let people put HAV's in weird places like on top of buildings" to which I say; people can all ready do this. Our CEO is notorious for putting LAV's with CRU's in hard to reach places with RDV's.
I think that something like this will become a necessity when we stat useing more of the area on the map. Zoom out on any map and you will see what I mean.
I happen to remember another PS3 exclusive with a drop ship that used this tool to good effect.

Big maps, slow tanks. A lot of people want Drop ships to be used as troop transports so why not go full circle and have them carry cavalry as well.
Truth is, I know just as much as you do about the future of this game. All I did was take look at RDV's and say "why not drop ships"

It doesn't show a lot of the gameplay, but basically the missiles on the dropship were anti-vehicle and NOT anti-infantry. Also, the dropship had to change from dropship mode to attack mode in order to use the weapon systems. This change also made the dropship really slow.
When it was carrying jeeps it flew slightly slower, and tanks would actually weigh it down so much you had to slow down in order to actually move forward without also being dragged downward. |

It should be noted that DUST dropships are extremely small, and would likely struggle to carry an LAV, much less a HAV.
However, your idea isn't dead there - I now draw your attention to the unused "Heavy Air Vehicle" HUD marker. I'm thinking we should have a "heavy" version of a dropship, with a similar comparison to current dropships as the V-22 Osprey has to the Blackhawk helicopter. More troop capacity (about 10-15), an ability to carry HAVs, and a VTOL control scheme similar to the in-development fighters. When carrying a vehicle, safety forces the pilot to fly in the "hover" configuration, meaning you shouldn't carry vehicles through a combat zone.
This idea would also do best with truly massive maps, where you would have a significant "safe" zone behind the front lines. The Craterlake map in the first builds - especially with a base at the end - was viable for this class of vehicle, and sorely needed something with more troop capacity anyway. |

The rdv is using medium icon, heavy maybe able to carry more then one vehicle.
A maned (with drop ship sized crew/weapons) rdv would be nice. Not needed now, but bigger maps will need it to carry tank over mountain ridges.
A large dropship may be able to carry a whole team. Team drops right onto objective, or somebody gets a lot of warpoints for the kill. |

*shrugs* just an idea didn't say it was perfect
the proficiency could be the speed increase also about the dropship
as forcarrying another dropship hey ya never know what your gonna need in the short time I've been in this beta i've seen some strange stuff perhaps a dropship guy can call two in then pick one up and have another guy drive it |

I would rather have a dedicated vehicle transport rather than a dropship skill, seems terrible. dropship for infantry not for vehicles too.

And what is it with people wanting to lock things down into roles?! the level of depth that is allotted to every type of drop suite and vehicle platform is unlike anything I have ever experienced on a consul game and yet we see thread after thread of people wanting to turn the drop ship into a flying short bus.
As far as we know, each race will have there own variant of drop ship. so who's to say there won't be one out there that can only move vehicles or one thats mid core at moving both.

But, It's still good and I would like to put forth an addition.
What if one could hook onto a dropship?
They exist in real life so...
It would be like a that tractor beam, that if you were flying low enough, players press circle and engage into the beam and be brought up into the dropship if it isn't full, but would be acceleration and not velocity based.
Meaning that you gradually accumulate speed as you near the dropship, so you could be vulnerable in the first stages (even last to a good sniper.) |

Sorry Ugg but if you look at the uplinking info screen it will show that the heavy air vehicle and the MCC have different icons. I am hoping for a massive gunship on this one. Or perhaps a strategic bomber.

Passive bonus for the skill needed to use this module could be a reduction in the effect the added mass of a carried vehicle would have on the dropship's handling. Essentially this would be giving the item less mass for the period of time it was being carried. 3% per level perhaps?
An explanation for this that fits with the background of the game is that more skilled pilots who have practiced hauling heavy equipment with the dropship are more adept at handling the dropship with the added cargo mass and thus less effected by it. |
