I play skirmish a lot. I enjoy the fact it's more than just a killfest, what with the objectives and stuff.
But I must say that I'm getting more and more annoyed with snipers on my team. I played a game recently where there was probably half my team playing as snipers. Me and a few others were left trying to capture cannons and win the game. We lost, simply by being overwhelmed each time we tried to advance on a cannon. Snipers were useless. They didn't make any serious impact on the enemies numbers.
What I suggest is a sliding points scale. The closer you are to a cannon, the higher the reward points for doing tasks. This will give incentive to those that like capturing cannons. And the snipers can still get points by defending cannons...the only difference being they have to be near them, rather than a mile up a mountain hiding behind a rock.

Random bluedots will play however random bluedots want to play. No competence required to play, only desire to play. Suggest squading up or finding decent squadmates if you want to offset the incompetent bluedot factor with a dose of decent greendot factor.
I can't really say I support your idea as it can put some playstyles at a points disadvantage; feel free to disagree but either way I don't really back it. |

I agree, squad up with mics, snipers are a valuable tool if used right, one sniper can effectively desolate half a team if used correctly and with enough skill however, this is very rare indeed
As for the "Closer to an objective you are = more points" no, straight out no, you would have everyone crowded around 1 objective, maybe 2 with no pushing up, also it would demoralize and effectively punish snipers and AR guys while supporting heavies (As snipers = extreme range, AR = med range) and demoralize pushing an objective as well, why not stay within those 20m and have triple the points than someone else who's pushing an objective?
Snipers camped out on the hills are a part of any game, blame CoD for the "KDR is best" stat, get used to it and stop the qq, more pew pew, or let me drag out my bucket to collect your tears. |

It should be how close you are to a cannon, AND how close whoever you kill is to a cannon. |

Long-range fire against objectives is the entire purpose of a sniper, and the core function of artillery builds when it comes to tanks.
You're not MEANT to be right on top of the target with a lot of weapons.
Also, the closer you let your opponent get to the target, the more time you wasted by not taking the shot.
Rewarding based on your proximity to the objective OR based on the proximity of your enemy is pointless. Squad Leaders set objectives. You get bonus WP for following those objectives. If you have a terrible Squad Leader, well... that's your problem. If you're the Squad Leader and aren't setting objectives, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. |

getting extra SP for, say, killing someone hacking an objective is a good idea or killing someone defending an objective would be good but getting points just because your near it? bad idea. having like a 30m perimeter around an objective and killing anyone sat in that firing out and defending should bring extra points because it should promote the taking of objectives, this also wouldnt penalise snipers because they could simply take the defending squad and then overwatch the friendlies taking the objective, relaying enemy movement to the squad taking it. |

It would encourage snipers NOT to provide covering fire while their team are defending the objective though, and they'd be more likely to let enemies get into effective SMG range against the people at the objective just so they can earn more WPs from the kill. |

Like almost everyone else said, NO to the OP. Bad, bad idea.
You can't play with randoms and expect them to care about winning, or expect them to employ a strategy that promotes winning. Snipers can be a great asset, and should be left as is. But if you want to play to win, then I suggest joining a corp. Randoms will be randoms. |
