Hi,
I've just been watching the somewhat infamous PDIGGY22 video and noticed that generally he will not move his crosshairs once in combat. It looks as though he moves left and right and then forwards or backwards depending on what his target is doing.
I am a complete novice at this game and ANY FPS and will generally try to strafe left and right, but as I do so, I tend to move my mouse around to compensate for my strafing.
Am I doing it wrong? Is the general consensus that you bounce left and right, but try to ensure that your target remains in the centre of the screen?
In the first 5 minutes of the video I noticed that he only moved the mouse if his target was making a dash for somewhere and strafing wasn't going to keep him in the centre.
Other than a single game of doom some 15 years ago, this is the first time I've played an FPS. So anyt tips on how to play are welcomed along side an answer to the above.
Honestly, other than saying shoot when your crosshairs are over the target, any tips are welcome.

He must have been using KB/M , it is hard to keep centered like that with a standard DS3 controller while running around ( or atleast imo). As for tips on shooting , try not to take on a guy head on who has spotted you first. Head for the nearest cover, get yourself ready and come out on the other side blasting ( kinda obvious, right? lol ) but that's about the only tip I have lol |

Personally i find moving my char much more easy than making a very fine adjustment aim whilst ADS also it helps to spoil the aim of the target . |

Generally speaking: I use left stick to aim when ADS at a target at med-long range. Use right stick to aim at targets when ADS at shorter ranges, although tbh, you should be using right stick to aim with hip fire when at shorter ranges. You'll still be using left stick, but to strafe in shorter ranges, not for aiming. |

Please bear in mind my noobness to FPS (and PS3 for that matter).
DS3? ADS?
I've moved over to a Keyboard and Mouse now, and am much better than I was before, so I am just 'awful' rather than 'god awful'.
The main reason behind asking was because when I use the PS3 controller, I generally tried to aim with the right stick all the time and I really wasn't very good at it. If using the left stick to 'move' the cross hairs on and off the target, then I may very well try it again.
I have to move my PS3 from the living room into the study to use the monitor and KB/M so, whilst it works much better its a right palaver.

Movement on a DS3 (dual shock 3 - that's the ps3 controller) is far better than WASD on a keyboard. ADS means Aim Down Sights.
Thank you for asking too. It's much better than continuing to talk about it for 3 pages assuming it meant advanced dodging skills (some thread from months back, which ended with "wait ADS doesn't mean advanced dodging skill?") |

DS3 would be the "Dualshock 3", the PS3's official gamepad. ADS is short for "aiming down sights", what happens when you zoom in with a weapon in hands.
Here are a few pointers for FPS gaming while I'm waiting for my tea to get ready: - Point the sights where you expect your next enemy to pop up. Only pressing the fire button is much quicker than aiming and then pressing the button. - Put your sights where the enemy will walk next and let him move into them. That gives you more time to line up a good shot. In games where 1 or 2 bullets kill this is a very good technique. - In Dust you need a lot of bullets to kill, so you need to keep your enemy in your sights for a while. Do that with the left stick by moving in parallel. This works better when you are moving at the same speed, therefor it works less when you pack armor plates or use a heavy suit.
Cheers. |

So, by the sounds of it, it is best to use the right stick when expecting someone to pop up, whereas if you are already in combat, it's best to use movement to keep them in the crosshairs?
I'm using the Laser Rifle currently and am quite enjoying it. I think the main reason being is that it allows me to 'sweep' the target, which my technical phrases for constantly over/under shooting but managing to get a few hits in between.
If I stick with the KB/M (getting the lingo down now ), should that change the way I play?

it's all about the Dropsuit setup. Know your enemy first. Scan them first. If they're using MLT, then go for the kill. Most people uses stack of shields, and you need to know that Flux grenades takes their shields out and I believe it prevents them from regenerating for a certain time. If they stack up Armor, they're going to slow and easy target because they're going to have a hard time strafing.
Know your enemy's weapon. If they're using a shotgun, try shooting them while walking away. Shotgun users are like Bulls. They'll try to get close to you as possible for that one hit kill. The farther they are, the less damage or chances that they will get to you. Facing an HMG user, don't strafe left and right for a kill because most HMG users are heavy suits. Go for one direction only while shooting and going for a cover.
Movement Speed is the key. Chances are that you're going to survive more often. Why do you think most people here like to increase strafing speed? |

Jax The most important thing is to to get you sensitivity settings right first. You'll be trying to get the balance between having as large as possible a mobility on your crosshairs for general traversing of the environment verses having it low enough where you can track enemy running using your right hand stick. A good practice is to use team mates as they run beside you. Just get into the habit of every now and again tracing what motion they use with your crosshairs. Using the left hand stick should be used more as a slight correcter rather than the primary aiming technique. If you can settle into the relative motion of your right hand stick for the sensitivity settings you have then you'll be well on the way to playing where you actually feel like you are you are fully involved in a game. If you get into the habit of using strafe as the main correcter of your aim you might win at mid range battles but as soon as it gets personal, you're kittened. |

Not to take anything away from diggy, because his skills looked solid based on that vid. But I watched that 34-0 match and most the opposing players he killed were just standing there or not strafing at all. It also looked like he was using a breach assault rifle before it got nerfed.
Again, I'm not dawging his skills, just sayin that kills are rarely gonna come that easy when in fire fights against good players. |

LOL, you must not play on K/M then, WASD is far, far better to move around then a DS3. Maybe for a street fighter type game a controller would be better, but for a FPS like this ill take the WASD and K/M over the controller.
I have yet to try the K/M but this week Ill get my Xim Edge, add my nostromo N52TE, G5 mouse and ill be back to my old PC gaming self again. Ah god it will be good to get back to normal playing again.
As far as OP, Yes find your targets head level then move your stick to strafe around, try to change your head level of your own avatar, while staying on your opponents head level. |

I didn't say it wasn't . And ur missing the point. The OP was asking for gaming advice based on a video from a build with completely different mechanics, with a weapon that is not as effective as it used to be, against a bunch of guys practicaly standing still. I was simply implying that the video might not be the best example. U should relax. All that stress will make u old before ur time. |
