Hey,
I wanted to start this thread for two reasons.
1. I think I might be at a point where joining a corporation will benefit me and me them. 2. There are more and more complaints about blue dots doing things wrong and almost nothing in the way of advice of getting better.
From what I have read, I am of the belief that most of the 'blue' issues would be resolved by being in a corporation and having communication, even if it's not talking and just listening.
However, other than simply playing the game better, are there other reasons?
For instance, if you roll with a corporation, I would assume that your death rate would drop due to you/someone else carrying Injectors? If this is the case does it mean that my ISK efficiency improves? (ie I'm not losing gear), does this in turn mean I can spend more on it and get better weapons? which in turns means I 'should' get more SP etc etc
Now, I might be wrong on the above points, but can we please try and put something POSITIVE together about joining and being in a Corporation (subject to the corporation knowing what they are actually doing).
Regards

Even with injectors it still counts as a death, you just don't lose your gear iirc. Honestly if you find a group of guys you like playing with then join them. If you don't want to be that committed, join various corps public channels to see if you can play with a mixture of people. |

Well, I can give you some points :
- being in a corporation mean that you won't play alone anymore. - being in a squad bring more fun, tactic and strategy, because you play together - play together mean that you certainly be medic more ofen, and you'll be cover, you'll have munitions, you'll rush the same objective, etc... - in a corporation, you could have some advices from better player than you that can help you to be better - being in a corporation could let you participate to the type of event as the tournament
And because of thoose points, you will save ISK and you will earn more SP at a time with a good squad leader or being squad leader by yourself with good squad mates.
Hope it will help you !!! |

- you will get founding from corp. - you will get tips on fitting dropsuits/HAV/dropships etc... in EVE thats a very good advantage , there will always be some in the corp that read all the stats and compare all stuff in marked and come up with good fitting, then you dont have to use to much time on that. |

your hunches are correct plus there more which will come down the road.
if you happen to be in a corporation you may see better KDR because you would be rolling with ppl who are playing the game right and picking up a "brother in arms" after being shot to death.
theres the corp wallets and those familiar with eve know that corp/alliances run special programs like reimbursement or reward members for performace.
if your corp is part of a gaming community you may have a tactician who may have compiled strategy guides and or ways to perform smarter on the battlefield.
then theres the simple reason, your playing with ppl who you may become friends with and playing with friends is better and more fun!!
*shameless plug*
that said our recruitment doors are open if and when you think your ready feel free to pop in an app (even if you select someone else) and the recruiter can walk you through the process. |

I don't want to to join a corp. and then be obliged to take part in their tournaments or competition against other corps. I like to jump in to a game, have fun for an hour or two then go do some other stuff like read a book, call a mate, write poetry or a new piece/make edits to a novel, go out clubbing and make those mistake drunken phone calls to an ex girlfriend. Sure. Games are getting more community oriented and require team work but if I ever joined a corp. and they said that if I don't take part in their activities I'll get kicked it would honestly put me off the game for good so I play on my own or with a friend that I know personally. But that's just me! I'm the type of person who logs in to EVE and AFK mines for a few hours each day while reading a book or doing stuff then using the profit to purchase a PLEX to repeat the same thing the next month, just because I want that little extra activity for if I'm bored and want to be semi-occupied with a task.
So if you're wondering why you should join a corp., OP, then you're obviously a bit bored of playing on your own so give it a shot and see if you like it or not. You can always leave and go back to being a content noddy little no internet-friender like me. You'll enjoy it if you're a fan of constant team-based online play. I'm sure a corp. can offer you various things like people to talk to while playing. New contacts to your friends list, possibly MSN and Facebook, with whom you can converse and have a laugh while you're not playing. Hints at improving your fittings or assistance on getting the things you need for them. They might be able to offer you an in-game aim, as you might find when playing a game by your own like this you have no aim but to grind non-stop with just yourself for company. And who knows what CCP will add to the game in the future but I would expect it's a lot of new breath-taking ideas to concrete itself into EVE so you can take advantage of the many things there too.

This game is going to be just like EVE. Being in a corp is going to be almost mandatory (I said "almost", gotta make sure everyone saw that.) The people not in corps will be so scrubby you're not going to have any fun on a team with them.
That being said there are going to be corps made up of casual players and hardcore players. Take my EVE corp...nothing is mandatory. We don't kick people for not coming on roams or not being at a certain place at a certain time. We only kick people if they haven't logged on in several months as alliance dues can add up fairly quickly. Don't get me wrong, when we do something we do it big and we play to win, but no one's under any obligation unless you want to be.
EDIT: Almost forgot...there really isn't any reason at all not to be in a corp. As long as it's the right corp for you, anyway. Join some pubs and see what everyone's about. |

If you join a good corp you are going to have people to group up with and play matches with. Tanks and vehicles become less frustrating as you are in a group of four people who's fits work well together and can coordinate against vehicles or revive you during bleed out.
I know since starting Shattered Ascension I've had a much more enjoyable time playing as I enjoy talking with the people in my corp and they are a lot of fun to joke around and group up with.
I've also had a much better KDR and far more warpoints per game simply because we have more people coordinating and working together.
As far as corp requirements, my corp and I would assume many others, have no mandatory events. If we are confident we can have 8 people online for it we'll accept corp contracts but all we look for are enjoyable people to squad up with. |

Interesting discussion...
-Heres something though- This is my first console MMO and (honestly) one of the first console games I am going to play. My Ps3 is essentially a glorified Blu Ray Player with web browsing on my big screen LOL. I am , however, very familiar with MMORPGs in general and have been playing them forever.
My issue is this- I do not have a headset/mic for my PS3 and considering I do not usually game with it- I will not be buying one just for this game (at this time..) but I do have these things for my PC along with familiarity with Vent/TS. Do any Corporations use Vent or TS for communication or is it all through the PS3?
-This is a pretty big thing for me since I can see how communication will be vital and that tactics in this game could really be incredible- Right now I am just running around and trying to kill the "red" guys with no strategy with my other teammates.
In the long run I can see myself purchasing a wireless PS3 headset if I REALLY end up liking this game (so far its a blast) but today is my first day-
Sooooo, anyone use Vent or TS for communication while playing- If so, I would love to participate in a corporation, learn this game (REALLY learn the game) and get into some underlying layers of strategic play.
-Thank you. |

-Thank you. There are corporations that have outside communications outside of Dust 514, and those that do will use, TS3, Vent, mumble, or even this new C3 thing as well, among other communications networks. I myself use this outside voip program for outside communications as well as for those that only have a mic for a computer, but not one able to be used on the console, so if I squad up with them, I can hear them through the computer and they can hear me at least through the console.
You can still activate the voice chat option regardless so you can at least hear people, so coordination can be there to an extent, if you have a squad decent enough. Mics aren't always necessary to join some corps, though it is always nice to have one around. |

Jax,
You are correct, as some blues, or sometimes what some refer to as blueberries, can sometimes be unhelpful, as they may have just started the game, don't pay attention, or just don't care.
I would like to say that if each new guy just starting out should go with the Assault - Triage fit, so that they at least have a chance of reviving an ally; which gives them WP, which gives them...you called it: more SP and ISK. It would make them somewhat more useful as it is pretty much the frontline suit with a nanite injector.
If you roll with a corp, the potential for your death rate to decrease is probable. However, this game isn't all about the K/D ratio. If you get revived, it still counts as a death towards your ratio when you are on the ground bleeding. Although, you could have a fairly expensive suit that is saved and you can fight in it another day, saving you ISK which in return gains you more profits, which will gain you more awesome fits to bring out your true potential, or to explore new areas you'd like to try out, like driving or Anti-vehicle (AV).
Corporations may also have more players experienced in different fields. I myself am I Logistics user and I try my damndest to revive everyone, repair their armor, and give them ammo to keep them well stocked and ready to fight, so I can give tips and pointers for that myself. Each corporation has different goals, much like guilds in MMOs. In Dust, there may be corps that want to shoot at people just for the sake of shooting people, others might want to become exterminator corps, (Drone Infestations/PvE content) taking over planets in Factional Warfare systems, or all of the above and more.
Above all, communication and social interaction are what tie a corp together. You make friends and you can shoot with them, and coordinate to be effective at what you feel you do best, or even just go back to back and moving in a ball of death/blob.
Corps have many things to offer and many are actively also looking for more people to add to their ranks for the sake of numbers, or wanting to find that extra player that is willing to help take stuff out.
tl;dr - Corps are good. Do some "research" on what corps may suit you. |

I'd like to add that Blueberries arn't inherently bad. They just can't support you like squadmates can. You also don't NEED to be in a corp to be in a squad. It only makes it more likely. When i play i have a couple squadmates i usually prefer to play with. I play with them so much that i pretty much know every fit they have. I won't give their fits away sicne i don't have their permision atm so you'll have to take my word for it.
They also know that i am never without a Repair Tool. All they have to say is "Free! i could use a heal." and i'm on them like spikes on a hedgehog. So to summerize.

Squadmates - whether randoms or people from your corp - can be helpful, or frustrating to deal wtih. It depends more on the person than on their membership in a corporation.
If you find a group of people you work well with, and those people happen to be part of a corporation, join them. If you find a group that work together and they're all spread across several different corps, join one or don't, doesn't matter - but create your own group chat with those people and keep in touch. Having communication is a core element of being in a corp in DUST (not the only reason), and you can get the same results without one. It's just a little more complex to arrange outside of a corporation. |

Playing solo with random blue dots makes it a damn challenge since you will be micless because most randoms dont talk so no point in trying half the time and the SL wont highlight anything and dont expect anything to be organized
That said its still fun, il roll around in a tank and **** off the enemy just because i can but im more at risk since i cant talk to my gunners and i have to look at where the danger is coming from and always keep my eyes open
When i am grouped up and we have mics and they are my gunners it makes it alot easier to look after the tank and avoid AV guys because my gunners can spot them, or try out new tank fits in general and lark about and have a laugh
Atm the majority of ppl i know aint playing DUST and im too lazy to even bother about joining a clan mainly because i want to tank in every match and thats about it but overall it doesnt bother me that im not playing in a clan or 4man team consistantly

There are many benefits to joining a corporation but the key is to find THE RIGHT CORPORATION that suits your playstyle and overall attitude/approach to the game. Having played Eve since 2005, i have experienced all types...
- If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is. Its a sad fact but some corporations will be created for the sole purpose of scamming its members. Dont trust anyone with your gear or isk, and for heavens sake dont share any passwords! Keep a close eye on corps with a high tax rate/donation requests. You might find yourself being a slave unwittingly funding someone elses gameplay. Happens in Eve all the time and there are Eve alliances/corps that will try to to scam/take from Dust players in any way they can.
- STAY AWAY from the internet napoleans; tough guys. These are the idiots who take the game waaay too serious, constantly scream on the mic, and want to control your every move. They seldom take resposibility for any shortcummings and its always someone elses fault. You'll usually find yourself playing to fulfill someone elses goals and dreams of conquest while not really playing the game YOU want to play.
Its going to be difficult to find the perfect corporation but with patience, you can/will find a match and even make some decent online gaming buddies. Get your skills up first. Figure out what kind of player you want to be. Make friends from various different corps and get a feel for how they play. Give some time for the game to evolve and see which corporations are thriving and whos not. See how the Eve/Dust politics are evolving. There is much more to this game than just being another FPS and those without Eve experience will be at a disadvantage early on.
Hope this helps some.
