During the 2 or so months I've tested the game, I have noticed improvement in many of the game's elements such as the UI, player interaction, and visual effects. However, if the game were to release as it is in the coming months then I do not see how it will fair well to reviewers or players who aren't part of the EVE fanbase.
I am aware that it is a free MMO, and thus will forever be updated. (Considering CCP stays in business, which is likely)
Despite that, the game is not ready to be revealed to the public in this state (in my opinion). No matter if it were $60 retail or came bundled for free with every PS3 system, being released in this state will be inexcusable.
My complaints mostly stem from that the game is both technically and fundamentally broken on numerous aspects. According to other player previews, these issues have not been fixed for well over several months. This leads me to infer that they won't be fixed completely in the coming months as well. Yet, while the bigger issues are either being ignored (or at least not being addressed to the players as often), new features are being added with their own issues. Would it be better to focus more on the core mechanics of shooting, connectivity, and stability before worrying about nerfing weapons?
This game has huge potential, but I truly think a release around this time next year would be the best option. You only been in for 2 months? Had you played the build before e3 then you would see how much its improved, but also it has taken a few steps back. And we all going to die Dec 21 anyway lol, so they may release early to give us a few days before the zombie apocalypse |

They all have remained the same, or are still in great need of improvement. Communication has improved much more than the other aspects from what I have seen so far. Add: Grouping mechanics Player counts Matchmaking logic Bland maps No proxy chat Clearly there is about 2-3 years work left, at least, to turn this into a AAA release The concept is great, but the development methodology, the testing methodology and overall execution is sub-par. You don't get it do ya? Lol when eve came out in 2003 it was bugged, and half the features in the game now were not present on release, its taken time to get it to what it is now. Yes dust is buggy, yes it has problems, but over time it will improve. If this was going to be a disk release title then there would be worries but its not, its digital. So because its digital that means its constantly evolving and having bugs fixed and features added. This is not final release code, its beta code. Upon final release it may still have some bugs and not all announced features will be present but that will change over time. alot of people are coming into this BETA expecting a final release code, well it don't work that way. A game of this magnitude takes alot of time to develop and fix, the daily downtimes are not for ccp to go make tea and shoot pool........the daily downtimes are for fixing bugs. If ccp took dust offline altogether to fix it then y'all would be moaning about that too. If everything is not ironed out FOR release then it will be ironed out bit by bit AFTER release, just like eve was.......and look where eve is now.

CCP as 2 versions of dust
the release version-which only they have access to atm
and the beta version-which we are playing the hell out of
they add content to the beta to see how it works and if it does it is then implemented into the release game what we are playing is constantly updated and subject to change every single day .
That's what a beta IS! A dumbed down version of what's to be a final release code. Your theory is right....but its not a theory......its a fact |
