I was playing recently, and I thought to myself:
Hey, if I want to talk to that guy RIGHT BESIDE ME To get into the gun turret, or to hop out for my buddy....I have to hope he has team chat turned on?
We need to take a step back when we shoot down an idea, that we are not just taking a side and defending it, that we are actually thinking about what we are defending.
The notion that proxy chat is a 'kiddie' or non essential to a realistic and tactical shooter, has not ever been a team player in a FPS. Proxy chat is almost as basic of a feature for realism as is having sprint sway, ADS, reloading, and gravity. PERIOD.
Communicating with your immediate surroundings is not just about having fun (though why anyone would not want a FUN feature in a game...) as it is having LOGICAL communication, between people who are.... within speaking distance. Knowing a tank is on its way to an objective while the 2 squads of run and gunners beside me run towards it is one of the most FRUSTRATING things, when having proxy chat, just shouting out "There's a Tank over there!" would save 2 squads lives, the objective, and in a lot of cases... THE GAME... THE ISK. THE PLANET.
If the game ships without proxy chat, I will be massively disappointed.its like taking aim down the sights out of a FPS. We lived fine before it, but once we have played tactical shooters with proxy, opting out of that feels like a regression, not a progression of the genre.
I will live with it, but EVERY SINGLE GAME that I would completely change how an encounter goes down, if only I'd have proxy chat, is going to make me want another post like this. |

This has nothing to do with proxy chat. You only hear a guy when you're close to him. Once you leave him, that's it. If you guys have ever played with proxy chat then you would know how beneficial it is and how much more enjoyable the game becomes.
For instance, you can warn or be warned of an enemy that's behind you. Or, you can tell the bluedot to help hack or cover you while you hack or vice versa. I mean, proxy chat is invaluable.
At the same time, you can talk to an enemy.....making the game fun if they're raging to you |

^^^ Exactly There really is no negative to proxy chat. Based on some of the comments I've seen, between this thread and another one... I don't think some ppl understand what proxy chat is. |

Proxy is essential for corp battles. Communication is key people. Annoying randoms can be avoided by joining a corp. Seriously are we that unsocial that we don't want to talk to people in a video game. You are already isolated into this fabricated universe.
I never thought I would see the day people are hating on proxy chat. Now I have seen it all on these forums.

I love proxy chat!
They did try to Implement it in the e3 build remember the crossed comms fiasco.
There was a post from a developer at some point saying how they wanted it in.
Did they decide to take it out. Or is it just not ready yet.
I am pretty sure it will be back soon |

but local voice chat would be part of the game sound surroundings. And that's the plan for eve's WiS, so they already know how to do it.
Think about it, sure you could turn it down in the settings, but people talking is just another sound in the game environment. Dust could be the the 1st to take it to the next level.
Now some people say the downside is you can't censor people and harassment can occur. But this is the same with current voice chat. Plus if someone is following you around trying to order a burger because they think it's funny, there can just be a simple aim and block player mechanic.
I believe the level of immersion that this would add would be mindblowing. Let me give you an example.
You are a new player. You are going around playing this new fps. Now most mmos you can type while playing and make friends right? a lot harder in an fps. So follow me for a second, please I promise you won't be disappointed.
So you join a match. It drops you in a game with other players into the lobby, and you can hear the other players. People are walking around and talking to each other on comms. Now they can hear each other anywhere they walk because they are in a squad. they have mics built into the dropsuits. But when you walk up to the 4 and say hi, your naturally introduced into the squads voice chat. While you stand near by you can take part in their conversation. If they don't like you they can block you or walk away.
Now the game starts. And you're learning how to play. Now again in a standard mmo you can chat in help chat. So after some run and gun you want to try sniping. You sit on a hill and pew pew. Then another player comes up to you and you hear through the game sound him talking to you. "hey dude, press triangle to change your stance and the scope won't sway!"
BAM, you press triangle, it made since. People would say hello and goodbye within a game.
A squad could run up to a point they were losing and see a fallen team mate. So they rez him, and him lets them know that they have 3 snipers up on the hill. Now the local vocie chat just saved a few dropsuits. Plus the revived player can verbally thank you. Another long time tradition of playing mmos. But in dust you can be typing while playing.
Do it ccp, make dust the game changer it could be. |

um this game will be centered around corp battles. Get in a good corp, talk to the people you are playing with. Even if they arne't in your corp. Maybe you are fighting with another corp o your team. Each squad has voice chat, and you can hear other people broadcasting orders.
One of the best game elements proxy chat brings would be making it possible to use a cloak, get close to an enemy, and listen in on him talking into his radio. Then tell your team * I'm guessing there could be mods for voice suppression right?* whats going on. It makes the game much more realistic.
Gaming bliss guys, this is the stuff we wished for as kids. One step closer to VR gaming. |

I don't like the idea of proxy chat. How are u supposed to comunicate with your squad if they are isolated on the other side of the map. Or once we get commander roles how is a commander supposed to tell squad 1 go to point a or whatever he needs to tell his team. Proxy chat is very limiting, our current chat system is less limiting. Not to mention tht proxy chat will not get rid of blue dot syndrome, there will always be blues because they either don't want to use vc or are to lazy to enable it. |

You are one of those who is missing the point. Proximity chat does not replace other chats.
The point is keeping the existing chats but also allowing those within earshot of your voice to be able to hear you just as in real life.
In real life you have comm systems that allow you to speak to your team. But if an enemy is close you can't use them because they can physically yea you speaking. They are within earshot |

@ app- then like u said call it wat it is; talking to reds. Personally I don't want to hear the other team its distracting from playing the game. Also it doesn't make sense with the game we r wearing enclosed helmets y would sound come out of them unless u r purposefully trying to talk to the other team. And if thts the only reason for it then fine say it. Ill get behind it only if I can keep the current system and turn proxy off |

I would like to hear from people that HAVE played with proxy and why you didn't like it?
Too many of these posts clearly have no idea what they are talking about. My experience with it has always been one of hilarity and epic trash talking, and me telling a bluedot where I am for a res or other useful info. This talk about annoying people on proxy is a non issue, this game caters to the older gamer much as MAG di d and the people with screaming kids will be few and far between.
So if you HAVE played with proxy and don't want it implemented, list some reasons. |

lol.... You don't want to hear the other team........... Really.
So you're one side of a wall the red dots are the other side, they start talking and you realise how lucky you were as you run away to get help, or throw a nade over the wall and kill their whole squad.... Then laugh and smack talk them......... Yeah crap idea.
Like Santana said, people who know but have reasons not to have it please. Not the clueless guessing we have on here. |

I don't think the folks who invented the wheel knew what they were doing until it was too late and they already had one.
