Are EVE made it's own lack of rules system. They are proud of it, almost at times it elitist proud of it. I play EVE, and I am not labeling people. But when i first started I came across some of the most arrogant non-helpful people I have ever seen in my 20+ years of playing games online. I know that is a minority thing and no how all EVE players are. Some where really great helping me how, even giving me a ship that was all fitted and rigged.
My fear is the same cut throat, crush people, lie and steal all there ISK. I'm fearing that it may no go over well. Majority of people are coming from the standard kind of FPS. Then when they realise they will get ripped off, and no one will care. They will get large scale ganked on purpose to steal there stuff. With EVE I do not trust anything anyone says to me. I play my game, have fun, do my things.
I am just afraid the behavior that EVE players pride themselves on, will turn awhile a lot of FPS people. I know people will say good we don't need them. Yes but you can't alienate to much of audience, when your corp is 99% EVE and 1% Dust.
Sometimes I feel it's just going to be a pass time for Goon Swarm. Or if you've ever watched some of the Tournaments and see how they are fixed and the teams don't both to hide it. 2011 one was awful what a let down at the end. Or during a tournament one teams offers the other team more ISK, so they just self destruct. So the first team gets the win.
I am excited about this game have been for months, but also concerned about it. |

never played eve but ive read about it, and im hoping for the cutthroat aspect due to the fact that most games are so carebear designed. i think the most 'ruthless' game ive played was dark souls, so i am excited about this aspect. this does not discredit your fear but it is a selling point for me |

I think the difference here is the the cut throat practice can really only be seen outside the core game mechanic. Hopefully it draws the casual player deeper into the rabbit hole. Unfortunately, you are right in that others will take the blue pill if they get burned, but some players will take the red and see how deep the space shooter goes. |

I would like to point out that most people in New Eden are not actually like that... sure there are a number of frankly kittenbag people within the game, but this is the same in ANY game. Regardless of if it is for some electronically earn fortune or simply to gain the upper hand in a match.
There are always a few bad eggs that unfortunately seem to ruin the entire bunch. This does not mean that Trust should be lost within EVE, but rather it in-of-itself as is the case in real-life becomes the MOST valuable commodity.
Sure players may not quite grasp this with DUST 514 initially, giving it the reputation of being quite a Harsh environment; but in my opinion just as is the case with EVE ... the pay-off is an experience that is unlike anything else. Simply because it is entirely Player Driven, not some writer in a smokey filled room making up things - everything that happens BIG or small, is always important to someone else and affects them. |

How can you be cutthroat if you can't team kill? I don't see how you can lie, steal, and betray in Dust. Maybe the worst you could do is become director of a corporation and screw with the assets then leave. |

I dn't get the whole point...
By rules what exactly do you point out? The game rules liek -- Don't kill yr own buddy?
OR
Are you talking about the game politics, space pirates and missions set up as suicide missions ?
If you talking about rule as in... Honor the moron on your team--who is singing and talking about activities they did at the mall today... Thats stupid, I don't have to trust, respect, or give a dang about what they say. There is a moral respect... You act heinous you get no respect. End of story.
If you talking about the game politics... Hey, that creates game diversity... Most FPS players that will come and go will just have team initiative and probably wont know that the mission was ever set up to fail... I hope they make a insurance system that only notifies players of that happening. That was more people could be like, AWESOME that goes on ?? An evenly set up missions with the same attribute. Maybe a corporation could select a accomplishment rule... As in, "Mission needs to be accomplished" or "Suicide Mission" .
Either way, you should clarify what type of rules you talking about.... "Cut throat" makes squat-sense you need to explain what part of it is cut throat. You give a adjective, pro-noun but no complete idea to what you are referring. "The game is cut throat and unforigiving" BUT HOW is it?? Your statement needs an entire IDEA.

Friendly fire will be on in nul-sec. Already been confirmed. Directors have access to corp funds and gear, already confirmed. CCP is not discouraging lying, people have already scammed by claiming they didn't receive 'recruiting bonuses' due to game glitches, even though it was exploiting the fact that we are currently in BETA, CCP did nothing.
Lesson is, teach your noobies scamming is part of this game early, spread the word, and adapt and overcome. This is part of the EVE universe, this isn't the kiddy coral, and I don't want it to become that. Hopefully through spread of information we can prevent this from happening to 'uninformed' players.
After all its always much more satisfying when an experienced and cautious player with a lot to lose and a lot of power is scammed because he put his trust in someone who wasn't really trustworthy after all =). The thing that makes EVE cool isn't scamming noobies, its the backstabbing nature taken to the highest level, and making genuine trusts and agreements with people, and once and awhile watching those trusts crash in spite of the mutual reciprocative nature, because one of the partners got greedy.
Its the real world in a game in a way we just can't experience in real life, because frankly, too many of us lack the spine to test our legal financial and corporate institutions with these sorts of large scale heists =). |

Surprisingly it is Eve online's cut throat style of play that has attracted new players according to some of my friends. The carebear style of play in other games got too many people bored. |

Just voicing my concern. I play both games and hope they are both successful. Hope for more EVE style character development in Dust.
For me personally, right now Dust feels to arcade and shooter'ish. I wish it was slower, more tactically. Not run and gun. But that is just how I like to play I prefer realism, with very long drawn out battles with push and pull to them. Then a 20 minute battle, I find no really enjoyment in those. Yes they can be fun, but give me a long epic battle any day. |

Great use of the carebear term. I like seeing the none eve players making an effort of understanding what dust is apart of. If more people took the time to meet the eve players half way we'd have a half way decent game. I say half way because eve players need to respect the actual shooter aspects that FPS'ers have. |
