It's the game at the moment. You'll notice A LOT of server/frame rate lag. Especially in certain compounds. |

Could be both! It could be lag if its the 5 point skirmish map and someone brings in a tank! |

depends on the map. for the most part i don't get lag and i use an alright wireless router. but in the large map with the 5 points and large buildings i get 1-2 frames a second sometimes hard freezes.
i know it's not my wireless connection because my friends get the same thing on that one map. |

It is the game I think. I am connected right to router and still have issues. It is getting much better than it was before though. Will only improve as time goes. :) |

I've noticed that I seem to load up slower than people I'm playing with. I even get lag spikes while watching the intro movie, which should be completely local. |

It could be your router. I run speedtest before I get on because I live in a small town some internet quite often already sucks. If my download rate falls bellow 200Kbps and upload below 150Kbps and ping bellow 100ms it's almost unplayable.
Edit: ping above 100 is what I meant, got on a roll and forgot change the direction :-P |

Think you'll find the lower the ping the better actually.
My ping, local is about 40, to the US about 200 to 300 and Asia ridiculous. |

should have never said you using a router and playing wireless.. you will get the blame even though it is the game. currently **** gets laggy really bad at some times especially in skirmish mode. Seen some really screwy stuff lately, and the entire team complaining of it.. so it's not the router or your connection. |

my network latency seems fine, but what i do get, and what i see most people complaining about is FRAMERATE lag. this has little to nothing to do with your connection, and would explain why you get issues even during the opening cinematic.
there's only so much you can do about this yourself. the ball is sorta in CCPs court, though some people have reported decent performance improvements by upgrading to a faster hard drive. the theory is that dust and certain other games (skyrim being the most notorious) are so large that they need to draw from the hard drive very often just to run.
bethesda eventually patched skyrim to optimize this process and mitigate the lag issues, but i've seen side by side comparisons of pre-patch skyrim running with a stock HD vs a newer solid state model and the difference was huge. nearly to the point where if all ps3s had SSDs bethesda would have never needed a patch.
obviously we're still in beta so CCP has the time and opportunity to optimize this game as well, and god willing they will. however if you really feel the need, there's a lot of pertinent info here. |

the lag happens to me when iam playin longer than 2-3 hours. for me, it has nothing to do with "bigger" maps. i think its because the ps3 is getting overheated very strong |

There definitely appears to be two problems going on. Both seem worse/ more prevalent as a result of the current build...
The screen framerate "slowdown" (sadly, "stop" would be a far more appropriate word) I've had for a long time, but only recently has it hit the depths of regular total screen freezes of one to three seconds duration. I'm now very disciplined - each time the screen freezes, I'm counting "thousand and one, thousand and two..." in my head, and It's always pretty bad. But this certainly seems to be client-side. When the screen finally starts moving again, assuming I'm still alive, I find that if I had the control stick forward during the screen freeze, I was still moving, and I then have to take a further second or so to regain my situational awareness of where I am. God help me if I was testing M/ KB at the time - I could be anywhere facing any direction... Either way, it's pretty unusual for it not to add up to -1 clone.
The other problem, which I've found far more prevalent, is continual lag, a less dramatic problem, but more than enough to remove any joy from the game. Although I use the term lag, This, in fact, could be a bursty low-level slowdown in screen updates making it almost impossible to correctly target an enemy.
Since this build was released, I have enjoyed exactly one (1) match which wasn't an exercise in lag/ framerate-induced frustration. This happened this very morning, finishing at 07:02 GMT (08:02 here in the UK), and I was able to achieve a performance almost on par to that which I achieved most games in the previous release. Most importantly, both deaths I sustained, I thought "yep -well played" or "good shooting", and not the usual "arrgghhh, killed by damned lag again!"
I certainly hope Dust isn't going to die a death because it "needs" to hit a Winter 2012 release date promise - because I can see no other outcome if the current build is released to the general public. Better to hang back and get things right. The beta testers (myself included) may be getting rather narked with the playability issues, and seeing new features released in preference to getting the current ones working (I though CCP had learned that lesson now?) but many of us are the very people who have waited years to get hold of Dust - we'll keep giving feedback until she's ready to go, then the less-sympathetic wider audience will be able to give good reviews which will give Dust the best possible start |
