I have it on great authority that this weapon is bugged and never over heats.
I can't test it myself currently as the SP gain is beyond poor and there's other things I want to personally test.
Anybody else found this to be the case?.
If it's true it needs looking at ASAP imo. It's as bad as the Tac Rifle being on auto. |

Advanced laser has better heat handling than the standard, and requires laser op 3, which give a 15% heat bonus. At laser op 3 even the standard can go *almost* until the end of the magazine before overheating. |

If that's the case then it needs looking at imo ASAP. Skills should not make a weapon that OP.
I'm sure people would rage like mad if we had AR's that lasted forever. I know I would. |

Well, to be honest, as I've been using Laser Rifle now for few days and I've never managed to overheat it, even the Meta1 version. But I've been such a wussy that I've always discontinued instictively (maybe a previous HMG habit sticks that hard...)
My vote would be to get rid of ammo but make overheat and perhaps cap usage a factor, perhaps even severely.
On the whole, LR seems pretty powerful, BUT at distinct disadvange on close and far range when compared to AR.
EDIT: will test ELM today |

I say remove the ammo, makes sense to have it only use overheat(aka capacitor) like its EVE cousins. If you have to make reload do something, let it swap out the focus lenses for either a chunk of heat loss or a damage type change. |

It over heats and I wouldnt say its op. Its just great in its optimal range. Up close or out of range though its almost useless.
I think the laser rifle is fine for now but maybe it shouldn't have a clip...then again that will give it a real advantage over every other gun since you will never run out of ammo. |

When you can nearly snipe with the thing doing max damage and not over heating, there's an issue. There's not even any point going toe to toe with a LR vs AR.
What am I expected to use as a counter, tanks/dropships?, because I don't have a problem rolling them on guys using solely this weapon like the crutch it is in it's current state. It's nearly as bad as the auto tact rifle bug.
I wish people would be more like Kerosiini and man up when something like this is that OP. There's literally no counter to it other than snipers or a shotgun in the back of the head. If the LR user is half decent your getting cut in half at most ranges.
Remove the ammo/reload and make overheat self destruct imo. So much power deserves a dire consequence. |

There are two very easy steps to defeating a laser rifle. Get cover Move forward
The optimal range window of the laser rifle is very small as soon as you get closer than optimal the damage drops significantly |

I have a feeling that CCP has a plan to kick in the handicaps. Remember, this is the first iteration of LR.
On optimal LR is HUGE and should have some 'pricetag' to use, but while applying that nerf devs should remember that optimal is really limited in distance, something like 65-85m, so not to nerf the already weak CQC abilities. (For those who do not know, it has minimal optimal range which btw INCREASES = gets worse as you level up sharpshooter skill. Which should be fixed btw. source: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=356717#post356717 with kudos to Musta Tornius)
As a recap:
Currently LR is a great support weapon for a squad as it has excellent suppression capabilities, but is a quite poor choice for solo warriors. I see the role being as it should be, as it fills an unique niche.
I wouldn't call LR OP except for one thing: killing heavies. That needs a fix, I killed a laterally moving heavy between two-three seconds in the final hum on my optimal. Not the way it should be.
Most disappointed I am in the fact that LR does absolute zero damage if it's one meter further that max range. But that is the same in all the weapons and an another topic on it's own right. |

Please stop! Enough weapons have been hit with the nerf bat and im sure you won't moan about it when its YOU using said weapon instead of the enemy. Why nerf something that needs lvl 3+ skill to make it that way? Why would anyone want to skill up to lvl 3+ to make a weapon take longer to overheat/reload if a**holes are going to get it nerfed? LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!!!!! |

I AM using it. Actually I'm wishing LR to be BALANCED so it wouldn't go through the unfortunaley usual overnerfing. That's why I'm suggesting right things to balance. |
