Here are my brief likes, dislikes and suggestions for Laser Rifles.
Likes - They are unique, stand out from the rest of the weapons which I like. When I thought of Laser Rifles before this build I was thinking that they would be virtually identical to Assault Rifles. So good work there! - Damage increasing over time, I really like this unique system and it requires skill to maintain rather than just blasting everyone. - Shield destroyers, I think it was good to implement a weapon that was more deadly to shields/armour instead of being an all-purpose.
Dislikes - Ammo cap, I think either it's too low or there should be no cap, there should instead be a shield drain or capacitor on dropsuits. - Targeting, it is quite difficult to kill people who are moving and I almost always end up running out of ammo or overheating when firing at mobile targets. - Low variety, we should have more variations like with burst, tactical, etc.
Suggestions - Add a capacitor (unique to Amarr dropsuits or just as modules) which the Laser Rifles feed off to fire. - Increase their hit radius so they are more effective against mobile targets. - Add pulse / beam Laser Rifles. [ Pulses being individual shots (like scrambler pistols) which have low range but high damage. Beams having high range but moderate damage and heavy capacitor drain. ] |

I love Laser Rifles, it's just they don't really work as well as I'd like right now. There aren't any variants, and leveling up to Advanced/Proto seems pointless as there is no real difference between them. :/ |

I support your likes
Your dislikes, not so much. To keep balance with other weapons one should be able to do about the same amount of damage per clip of each weapon. Like every meta 1 level weapon can do 400 general damage or what not. For me 1 clip = 1 or 2 dead enemies in militia gear. Changing that would make any gun overpowered (of course not taking into account the variety of suits or headshots and the like).
It is a unique weapon, a very accurate weapon. It is difficult to handle but worth the payoff. Because I'm not great at leading an enemy I take out the stationary ones, enemies in cover, or enemies that are running straight for me (love hallway deaths).
It is not a weapon for all occasions. Areas with tons of cover and areas forcing confrontation at close range gimp the effectiveness of the rifle.
Hit radius? do u mean spread? or a beam the size of a forearm or leg? or LAV?. Lasers do not function this way, read up on on how a laser gets all the rays of light to be focused into one direction. Or at least at the size we carry the beam the size of a coin is amazing. In our day they are but pinpricks and only work at close range. The size for a spaceship laser is different - not even our heavies can carry those.
I hear that you want an All around laser AR. That is not what this is. Use it for its strengths and then switch weapons to a SMG or specialize in some other weapon. They are what they are, and they are not AR. |

that's not true. damage build up is higher and it takes longer for them to overheat. looking at the stats doesnt really show that off too well but the higher level guns are better.
and for hitting moving targets just do an infinity sign over them as they run. its never been that much of a problem for me.
all that should be changed is giving the LR ammo regen. just have the batteries recharge off of your suits power grid. |
