Correct. Carbon was planned to be used on DUST, but the engine was too complex and was time consuming to develop DUST in time for release. |

I BELIEVE this is the video that they covered CARBON and future compatability with CCP games, but they really do gear their games to be turned up to 11 on the high end GFX cards while still maintaining a degree of fidelity on the common graphics cards, i think that they are, or will be soon, working on tessalation that will bring the GFX to the next level, as demonstrated in the previous link i posted
16:45 or so Halldor takes the stage, hes the one who talks about all the CARBON stuff, i dont have time to fully scrub the video for his talks about CARBON, but theres a lot of other intresting and fun information there
EVE Fanfest 2012: CCP Presents! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Ozvef7CvQ&feature=related
*edit* was mistaken, had more time than expected, cause other people woke up late were over 30 minutes late, and now ive scrubbed the videos
maybe it was the 2011 fanfest that he talked about it, because im pretty certain it was in one of the keynotes that he had some skit about carbon fest yadda yadda, i cant quite find it at this time, im a terrible person and am bad at this game and should probably delete my character with /wrists, i am sorry for not having delivered the goods
19:30 or so, NVIDIA rep comes on to talk about future vision/compatability between NVIDIA and CCP 25:00 or so CARBON overviews, 30:40 or so the annoying skit ends 33:00 they show a representation of how many code lines are codelines of CARBON vs EVE 40:00 they demonstrate CARBON character technology in action 44:30 mental ray ray traced picture of one of the characters in eve, the visual target for avatars in CCP games EVE Fanfest 2011: CCP Presents! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaT9Z2zxPu0
Short version halldor has to say about carbon, core tech platform for CCP, tech created by harvesting code from eve, developed and tested for years, refining it to serve the needs of the other projects we have
timecheck: 1 hour late now, *sigh* why was i up early for this... |

Like most people said Dust514 porting to the PlayStation4 (Codename: Orbis) should not be a problem. Infact I could almost garuntee you that Sony gave CCP them a mock developer kit to start using so that the port could be that much smoother, and faster. Beyond that Sony is going to be using a new OS, and cell processor. They had plenty of feedback this generation and everything pointed to an incredible amount of difficulty with dealing with the coding, and processing to fit said games onto the system. Which is why most ported games look that much better on the Xbox360. Simply because, it was easier to code for, and maximize usage of. The PlayStation3 may be more powerful, but what good does it do you when so few can actually maxamize the potential of said power? Nonetheless CCP has assure everyone that it will be following the next console when we come to the road. Sony I am sure also plans on transitioning PSN (PlayStation Network) or roughly now SEN (Sony Entertainment Network) over to the PlayStation4 as well. Where it will more then likely be officially recognized as SEN from then on. Maybe. Nonetheless there is little to worry about in terms of your account with Sony, and the game Dust514 and the transitions to the PlayStation4. |
