Now Im absolutely sure they fixed hit detection for the masses, that would be all the people running around with ARs. Ive noticed they fixed it for you. Everything so far is catered to you.
However, did they fix it for sniping? If so, what is that shield flicker I get sometimes when firing at someone at they take no damage? What about when this happens 3 shots in a row? How about the other night I had to not aim at someone to hit them. Reticule was orange, nothing, I moved slightly to the right, reticule was blue, fired he died. That isn't fixing hit detection. The guy was standing still for both shots btw. I didn't know they added wind adjustment all of a sudden, shouldn't that have been in patch notes?
Also, I don't know if you call it hit detection, or a clipping problem, but alot of snipers have found little spots next to rocks where they can't be hit. You can see their head, fire, nothing. One guy was standing completely on top of the rock crouched, fired 3 times at a stationary target, nothing, shield flickers.
Which skill is it to make my shield deflect bullets? Where are the magic bullets that shoot through terrain? Everyone says hit detection is fixed but I don't see it. I know I know, sniping is useless and doesn't matter, we're worthless, all we do is camp in our spawn point yada yada. Looking for actual decent responses from other snipers who have these problems, have a way around them, or can tell me where to find the magic bullets in the Marketplace. |

It's hit detection, and it's still broken. Anecdotally it seems to affect scout suits more, and has since I can remember (even into previous builds). There's nothing for it. Sometimes you just can't kill people. |

I saw this last night when I was sniping. I had djinn hacking an objective in my sights and it was a clear line of shot! 3 shots and only the 3rd one hit him with little or no damage. In the same game I sniped geronimo and my sights was no where close to him.
This happened multiple times during the game. |

Im not angry, I like that anytime someone had a different opinion than "ARS SHOULD RULE ALL, BOW TO MY WALL OF BULLETS" you're angry. I do just fine sniping, never negative, usually 1 maybe 2 deaths a game. Usually in double digits for kills, so no Im not angry. I simply noticed something about hit detection, and asked other people what they thought. I do believe I said I wanted other snipers input, not all the non aiming spray and pray AR users.
And as for dumbing the game down, if they dumb the game down anymore it won't be a game, there is no thought required or skill required for this game. Get a few people together, run in group, spray walls of bullets at people, win. That isn't thought, it isn't tactical, it's blob warfare.
Once again people seem to forget that snipers should be feared on a battlefield. You don't hear big stories about the ****** with an M16. You hear stories about the sniper that took out a whole squad (that's 14 people in RL) by himself from his perch. Guess that makes the sniper non skilled and chicken? I apologize some people want to do more than run around with an AR all the time. Last I checked this game was supposed to have options, every option but AR gets nerfed to the ground, from what Ive seen, or at least whined about.
So keep talking **** if you'd like, somewhere in all these posts I might can get a few decent answers from some people who actuallly aim at stuff, and realize that accuracy is a part of shooting. |

ARs are not spray and pray! Lasers, sub machs and HMGs are for the most part if you dont know how to use them.
On a different note, I saw you play last night. Do you have a group you roll with? If not let me know. We have a bunch of fun guys to play with!

Back in March Sniping took real skill. Nobody in a video game cares about the little pansy dude hiding far off into the mountains with a sniper rifle. This is a video game not real life dude. Secondly people hardly spray and prey AR's. They actually have an optimal effective range in this game, that can be increased by using sharpshooter skills.
Blobwarfare is "tactical" it's legitimate strategy and tactic. However though it can be easily countered or discouraged by using precisions strikes. Don't tell me your definition of tactical is camping your little ass off war far up on top of a mountain?

So keep talking **** if you'd like, somewhere in all these posts I might can get a few decent answers from some people who actuallly aim at stuff, and realize that accuracy is a part of shooting. Sorry, wasn't talking to you man, and yes there are still issues with hit detection I have experienced everything you mentioned here since last build. If you want to actually do some considerable damage with the sniper this build you will have to max out proficiency in the sniper. Also, I haven't quite confirmed it yet but light weapons sharpshooter seems to give you more accurate shots at long range.
There are still issues that skills won't fix usually when you can't hit someone at a distance (mainly scouts) you will have to aim around them, alot of the times you will have to hit the tip of their back, or in some cases you will have to find that sweet spot were the recticle turns blue as you mentioned before. Also alot of the times when you see their chest and head over a rock or hill and can't them, sometimes this is because you see them as though they are standing but in actuality they are crouching so you will have to aim lower were the tip of their head should be. This doesn't always work though and you actually end up hitting the rocks in front of them.
Sorry this is the only advice I can offer atm. I still have some difficulties with this bug but I hope what I said helps. |

Being that I am a scout, I can safely say that hit detection is improved. It's not 100% but it's better than the previous builds. I can tell because I keep getting hit by snipers in open areas. This is why I maintain my sprint with stamina recovery mods so that i can keep moving. |

This problem isn't restricted to just long distances. I've taken plenty of shots at close to long-AR distance which have bounced off a magic shield. Now, don't misunderstand, I certainly do not want a battlefield full of skillless snipers who grind a couple skills for a couple days and then make 650m shots...but these shots should be possible and consistent if you have invested in it. I should see where my bullets are going if I miss. High or low, left or right. If it registers on the shield, the player should take damage. Shots at close/medium range should always connect if the reticle is red. |

I don't have problems 90% of the time. It's just I notice it more when I do have that magical shield reflection thing go off. Me and my friend always mention it to each other when it happens which doesn't help the situation. If I have a guy on a rock I can't hit I usually reposition and kill him. So my gripe isn't something that happens all the time. I just notice it when it does happen. And it seems to happen back to back. Ill kill 3 people, then Ill get someone I put 4 rounds into, shield reacts but he takes no damage, then another sniper one shots him. That's when it pisses me off, because I know I hit him. As far as proving Im useful, I don't really care if anyone thinks snipers are useful or not. Since they are in the game they should be as reliable as every other class when it comes to firing, and with stuff like this they aren't. Also, I can't help the guy hiding in the hills going 20/1 is smarter than the ****** on the ground with the AR, that's not my fault. I didn't tell you to run around in the killzone did I. |

Now clearly, this thread has veered off track...
OP's point was that Sniper rifle hit detection isn't always working properly - and I agree. I disagree that it's working fine and has been totally fixed for Assault Rifles. That's simply not true. There's plenty still to be fixed there... I can't, and therefore won't, comment for weapons I don't frequently use.
On the matter of sniper-hate, I certainly recognise the value of a good sniper, and I'm always glad to have one or two on my side. The problem arises in the many matches utterly dominated by snipers sitting in the mountains farming kills. Farming kills is all well and good in Ambush - kills are the measure of victory after all, but in Skirmish games? Who's going forward to take control points? One or two unsupported infantrymen, that's who. There's a reason the bulk and backbone of any army is the regular infantryman, and like it or not, you need more of them than you need snipers. But instead, you end up with the mountains lined with snipers refusing to make a tactical advance on the objective, while one or two infantry do all the advancing to try and win the game for their team, and therefore suffer all the dying on behalf of their team. No wonder they're annoyed at the snipers! This invariably leads to a WWI style standoff with a bunch of artillery, long-ranged personal weapons and no-one leaving their trenches. That doesn't sound like the type of game I want to play...
I'm sure I'm not breaking any confidences to point out that a (half-decent) sniper will pretty much always achieve a higher K/D ratio than a regular infantryman (for those still fixated on such measures), they have fewer oportunities to engage the enemy than an infantryman, but they face far fewer threats. But snipers are simply less useful than a regular infantryman. I'm only half-decent as a sniper myself, but when the lag gets so bad that I'm getting owned as a GroPo, I switch to sniper for a bit and just you watch how that boosts my morale as the kills rack up. *This* is why we're over-run with snipers - the "I'll just rack up kills" mentality, "someone else will spawn in the (infantry/ anti armour/ whatever the team *really* needs) role"
It's probably worth mentioning here the derogatory and moronic term "camping". A forward observer in an Observation Post, a decent sniper hidden away in a vantage point, even a bunch of infantry lying in ambush are tactically clever moves. "Camping" is a term used by sore losers who have fallen to a tactically superior enemy (no problem - happens to everyone) but can't bring themselves to see that what happened was actually clever and learn from it (no excuse for that). I'd like to see Dust evolve into an ever more tactically clever game, not a bunch off headlong-charging bunny-hopping loons, and certainly not two lines of rifles facing each other across a valley.
So yeah, play a sniper every now and then, serve your team, play it smart, stay hidden, use cover, but be don't kid yourself that it centres around you - you're in a support role, nothing more. And be ready to step up when what your team-mates *really* need to win the match isn't yet another scope-starer. If the guy to your left and right are also snipers, maybe you (yes you) should be the one to make the difference? |

This issue is frustrating to say the least. As far as fixing sniping goes, I have been suggesting that headshot damage be increased and damage to the body be decreased. I don't think adding mechanics such as bullet drop or travel time is the answer as it makes luck a big factor in hitting targets. Also you would have to add it for all other guns imo. |

What bullet drop and travel time would do is add a player skill component, such that sniping won't be the default beginner role. Folks wouldn't be as bothered by being sniped if they knew it took some skill to pop them. Right now it's childs play to move the aiming dot until it helpfully turns red and pull the trigger. |
