Easiest solution to this terrible, cookie cutter, CoD clone, LOL of a BETA is stop playing it and stop complaining on the forum! [/s Also, CCP, plz take Dust off the PS3 as Sony and MOST the community are not ready for this type of game and put it on the PC as its WAY superior! /s]

The forums are for FEEDBACK and discussion on how to improve the game. Just because folks don't like this terrible build, it doesn't mean we aren't still hoping we can contribute to fixing the problems.
Also, I love the irony of quoting a low brow, **** joke, redneck comedian in an attempt to belittle other people's intelligence. The system wars PC master race nonsense is just the icing on the cake.
Lastly, what makes you think we are actively playing this build? |

It's really not too fair to compare this game to console shooters. As was pointed out, there haven't been any *real* betatests on console before. CCP has actually been active in this beta, it seems. Considering activity in EVE as well, I'd be very surprised if they didn't make some changes in the coming months.
Additionally, the part people forget, the biggest part about this game hasn't even happened yet: The EVE connection. That's pretty hard to waive off, as that has always been the biggest deal about this game. Having a more of a "big picture" than other shooters have, and that can make a big difference in fun factor and how the game really plays.
I agree that the gunplay itself at this point is fairly cookie cutter, but remember that the gunplay has never been what was supposed to make it stand out.... there's a dime-a-dozen shooters out there, it's a hard market to compete in on gunplay alone. The big picture will attract people, the gun play will get better. How much better? We'll see. I just wouldn't write the game off as nothing yet when it's largest feature hasn't been introduced. |

D514 has been in beta for close to a year. If D514 were a $60 BD on the shelf, then feel free to compare it. But D514 has no contemporaries on consoles, so any comparison is simply ridiculous. Actually dust has been in beta for 3 years. Whether it is fair to be compared or not, people will compare it to black ops 2 when trying to decide what game to play. If there is a better game people will play it. |

Better or not is a strictly subjective thing. You have the CoD twitch kill fanboys wanting CCP to make Dust a sci-fi clone of their fave game. Other's of us want a deep tactical game where it takes more than one or two bullets to the shin or a knife in the heel (I've been killed both ways on CoD 4) to take down a target.
I, for one, am enjoying the deeper "adapt or die" gameplay where no one set up is the be all end all. Yes it still needs a bit of work but if I want to bunny hop and dance and twitch kill my target, if they don't twitch kill me first, I'll go play CoD 4 instead of crying that CCP should make Dust 514 into CoD: Dust.
I point CoD fanboys out because I see "be/not like CoD" implication posts the most. |

Tbqh all I'm hoping for is crater lake, my strafe speed back to precursor speeds, and an end to the darn frame rate issues. Maybe some fun toys every few months. I like the game. I hope it doesn't change too much. Oh, PvE & higher player count too. Those are pretty essential.
I'm with you. Also, core gameplay may not change much now but the way it's gonna be used in game modes, persistence, etc... will change and get bigger forever. And that's the main point.
Player cap, final bug fixes (lag, framerate, FREAKIN collisions), and a decent raise of speed to avoid feeling like nannies would make me quite contend. |

sorry dude, but straffing ain't related to cod at all. Otherwise, cod wouldnt have that much fan as it would actually need skills to make a frag. |

COD sees to have a higher strafe speed then dust right now, based off youtube videos and seeing friends 5 year old play black ops, I don't play it.
Only good things I see in COD are fewer invisible walls and being able to enter more of the buildings. These seem likely to show up at some point in dust based on the sudden appearance of ladders. Invisible walls are annoying in any game, and many games let you enter nearly all the buildings long before the first COD, so I don't associate these with COD as much as attention to detail. I figure CCP is to busy chasing bugs to worry about this yet. |

When we say that they we higher strafe speed its because we really don't want this game to be another CoD. For some reason people think the opposite. For the most part CoD takes very little skill just like this game. That's what we are trying to avoid by raising the strafe speed.
It just goes that show that a lot of people on this forum have no idea what they are talking about. ccp shouldn't have invited so many scrubs in this beta.
While CoD might have a little faster strafe speed then dust. It is not that much faster. Not when compared to actual twitch shooters. |

Carrying over the argument into another thread isn't exactly getting the knot out of your shorts and moving on.
What it all comes down to is that this isn't a CoD clone. It's not a Halo clone. It's not a Mass Effect clone. What has been irritating me the most is that people have been implying that they know what's best for Dust and that they know CCPs vision. We don't know where this is finally going to end up. In the end, if you don't like Dust, quit your bitching and go play somewhere else.
Want better strafe speed? Fine. I don't mind as long as it's within reason, but strafing at full run speed is not reasonable.
Want to jump? Jump! I see asaults and scouts hoping around 4.5 feet. It's a little unreasonable but I work with it.

As somebody who works in the industry as a game designer, I'd have to say I agree with some of these criticisms. The game has promise and shows a ton of great effort. BUT I feel there are some major missteps that need addressing before it goes live.
A quick list of some of them:
- the marketplace and skilltree need simplification ASAP. It is way way out of control. For example, you must buy a skillbook to purchase a skill (and the green checkmark book icon doesn't mean you have that book -- it means you can BUY that book. Ugh). Why frustrate and complicate matters? Toss the skillbooks ASAP and allow any player to buy any skill. If DUST really wants a flexible build-your-own playstyle, it should make that easy, not bothersome.
- If I can't use or buy something, give me an option to buy that something. Or at least tell me what I'm lacking. Is that too much to ask?
- the default player is badly nerfed which makes the initial player experience quite frustrating. As soon as I bought a few basic skills, I became somewhat competitive. Most newbs will dump the game instead.
- the marketplace is too slow and the matches are too short.
- cooperative gameplay should be simple and easy -- see Syndicate.
- player skins and models should be more distinctive, letting you tell role and team at a glance.
- default shield levels are too low -- the average lifespan is too short. Give the player a chance to get a rhythm before he dies.
- environments are generic and the generous sightlines encourage sniping. Foliage and fog might help.
- I'm new but I've yet to see a 100% interior level. Interior levels force close-range encounters.

No, it's a beta. If it were an alpha we, by definition, wouldn't be playing it. Alphas are for internal testing only.
The problem on consoles is that most people don't know what a beta actually is. |

You know, I admire the loyalty. I really really do. The execs believe that gamers will flock to whatever's shiniest and it's good to see they're not right.
('Course, we knew they weren't right.)
That said, you should look at the big picture. If this game only can appeal to people who play EVE, it's doomed from the start. If I have to play EVE to understand it, it is a massive unconditional failure.
I'm not here to threadcrap; I'm volunteering my time to make this game good. Your DUST universe will only thrive as long as the game is viable. It is not viable at this time. |

Last I checked you can but multiple of any skill book, the check mark means if you buy it it can be trained. A can be trained, bought, and trained icon in market would be nice.
The market needs more complication, being able to sell things for example, or put out a standing offer for a item at a certain price.
Consoles use to have complicated games, PTO on super nes was very complicated for example. People that played the civ games on playstation played the same game as the pc, ps3 civ games are dumbed down now for no apparent reason. Once the mcc and aircraft are added it could also appeal to flight sim and rts fans. Many rts fans make spread sheets like eve players, so it won't be a stretch for them.
Dust matching EvE in mechanics won't restrict it to eve players anymore then eve is restricted to existing eve players. The mechanics don't all match anyway. It will reduce the ability of children to play the game, this reduces the player base but prevents need to put up with kids. Like the last time I played mag somebody complained about "the people cheating with the gun with the telescope that shoots real far", I muted the tv after that comment. No offence to former mag players, this was in august when dust servers turned off during week, all the good people left game it seems.
