Better or not is a strictly subjective thing. You have the CoD twitch kill fanboys wanting CCP to make Dust a sci-fi clone of their fave game. Other's of us want a deep tactical game where it takes more than one or two bullets to the shin or a knife in the heel (I've been killed both ways on CoD 4) to take down a target.
I, for one, am enjoying the deeper "adapt or die" gameplay where no one set up is the be all end all. Yes it still needs a bit of work but if I want to bunny hop and dance and twitch kill my target, if they don't twitch kill me first, I'll go play CoD 4 instead of crying that CCP should make Dust 514 into CoD: Dust.
I point CoD fanboys out because I see "be/not like CoD" implication posts the most. |

Otherwise, cod wouldnt have that much fan as it would actually need skills to make a frag. Yeah, this guy doesn't understand that CoD is not a twitch shooter. When we say that they we higher strafe speed its because we really don't want this game to be another CoD. For some reason people think the opposite. For the most part CoD takes very little skill just like this game. That's what we are trying to avoid by raising the strafe speed. It just goes that show that a lot of people on this forum have no idea what they are talking about. ccp shouldn't have invited so many scrubs in this beta. While CoD might have a little faster strafe speed then dust. It is not that much faster. Not when compared to actual twitch shooters.
Carrying over the argument into another thread isn't exactly getting the knot out of your shorts and moving on.
What it all comes down to is that this isn't a CoD clone. It's not a Halo clone. It's not a Mass Effect clone. What has been irritating me the most is that people have been implying that they know what's best for Dust and that they know CCPs vision. We don't know where this is finally going to end up. In the end, if you don't like Dust, quit your bitching and go play somewhere else.
Want better strafe speed? Fine. I don't mind as long as it's within reason, but strafing at full run speed is not reasonable.
Want to jump? Jump! I see asaults and scouts hoping around 4.5 feet. It's a little unreasonable but I work with it.

- the marketplace and skilltree need simplification ASAP. It is way way out of control. For example, you must buy a skillbook to purchase a skill (and the green checkmark book icon doesn't mean you have that book -- it means you can BUY that book. Ugh). Why frustrate and complicate matters? Toss the skillbooks ASAP and allow any player to buy any skill. If DUST really wants a flexible build-your-own playstyle, it should make that easy, not bothersome.
- If I can't use or buy something, give me an option to buy that something. Or at least tell me what I'm lacking. Is that too much to ask?
- the default player is badly nerfed which makes the initial player experience quite frustrating. As soon as I bought a few basic skills, I became somewhat competitive. Most newbs will dump the game instead.
- the marketplace is too slow and the matches are too short.
- cooperative gameplay should be simple and easy -- see Syndicate.
- player skins and models should be more distinctive, letting you tell role and team at a glance.
- default shield levels are too low -- the average lifespan is too short. Give the player a chance to get a rhythm before he dies.
- environments are generic and the generous sightlines encourage sniping. Foliage and fog might help.
- I'm new but I've yet to see a 100% interior level. Interior levels force close-range encounters.
You should really go play Eve. Dust is intended to be an extension of Eve. Get familiar with Eve and you'll understand Dust. Either that or learn to play in our universe. |
